Dating to get gyro, working for cash so you can date, practice enough to get in the "clear," come away with orgin pitch, and yet some of ya seem to manage to complete a couple of other archs and still pass!!!

I was just messing around with yet another sucky closer and for the first time got Orgin pitch but then failed to advance to AAA. I was also doing Frank's arch. Think the guy was up to 89mph, 3snk, 1orgin, 1slv and whatever he had started with for cntrl/stamina.

You guys use carryover choclate but that costs money then you wast time resting....I don't get it. How you find the time to do all of this and still get in enough practice time to satisfy the coach/scout?

if you are making a closer.. wouldn't gyroball be unnecessary?
I have never gyroball before..
Okay.. in order to get pass the game.. you HAVE to do well in games. And practice with only with a coach there
Save only when you get 10 or more scout points..
For me, I am not THAT good.. but on average I can get 20 scout points per game.(I do that with 7 inn pitched and around 5Ks)
I pass the game in middle October, so for the rest of the time I just cruise around doing arcs.
Most of the arcs are random…
I only focus on Stitch(soo important). Frank(somehow it become random events after a while), the Izzy(the steak).. Jaw(to get money)
Other events are completely random: for example- Dr. Goodjob, Catch the Thief..
Don’t try dating if you can’t manage all the commands.. first try date Lucy. It is a lot easier.. and she gives Intimadator and Dr.K,,
A lot better for a closer..
Hope that will help…

Actually, a Gyroballing closer wouldn't be that bad. It would definitly catch a human player off guard, unless the starter has Gyro as well. Just one pitch, since a closer usually won't throw that many pitches. Sorry, I'm better at Madden techniques, but anyone let me know what you think...

Intimidator's hitting cursor shrinking effect tops Gyroball imo.
Since you can only get one or the other in 2008, Intimidator would be my default pick for closers.

Getting back on topic, you should do well in games so you don't have to practice for coach/scout eval. Spend time boosting energy with free time events instead, and use Carryover Chocs. Money spent on chocs is nothing when you get $1000+ from catching the TV thief and $200 + Surprise Bag from Jaw's "Find dog in 2 weeks" assignment.

If you're still confused how this all works out take a look at SmilingFaces96's player log for a near-max pitcher posted in the Password Exchange section.

Good topics to read about how to get more weekly commands, which makes stat building/advancement much easier.

Play through a few success modes to get a feel for it, then read these topics and apply the info to your playstyle.

Good luck!

my tips:
>only practice when/where there is a scout (if there are scouts in multiple places all the better, choose the one you need)
>get at least one breaking pitch before the first game, or else you'll do horrible
>the only two arcs i do are patty's (for gyro, duh) and sittch's (orig. pitch)
>(this only applies to people who don't S/L)
save at least twice in the middle of the game, once just after the AA championship and once a month before the game vs. sittch. don't save too late, where you need 12 eval points to pass with 3 weeks to go (that happened to me...)
>2 must buys are psychic goggles (shows what pitch your opponent is expecting, fastball or breaking ball) and prince's necklace (raises both eval)
>if you don't win the 2nd game vs. Gil but you have enough eval, you'll win right there, shaving months off your time (which is bad)
usually i get enough points with months to spare.

By the way, I got 82 points for strength, quickness, technique, and Breaking ball for one hitting the sittch game (it ended in a tie, tiebreaker was a loss ;-(

we waste time resting? sure, time was wasted last year when all we had to do was avoid getting injured, but in this game we have to get 5 cards.

also, Prince's necklace is ideal. S/L so you avoid getitng injuries, laziness (or anything like that), or bad RE's. Also, for people who aren't as good as others, PSYCHIC GOGGLES ARE IMPORTANT, especially against Sittch in the final game, since you have less than a half-second to react. In real life, a Verlander fastball goes from the mound to the plate in faster than .3 seconds! that means that if you blinked exactly when he threw the fastball, you would miss it. Sounds too hard to do in a video game? Well, you're in luck. So this shouldn't be that hard.

I struggle getting coach points up enough most of the time. Coach points correspond to more scout points since you play more games. So, ONLY PRACTICE WHEN THE COACH IS THERE. If he's not there, he can't know you're good, so you won't get any coach points. Also, AIM FOR ABOUT 6 COACH AND 13 SCOUT POINTS EACH GAME. This will give you more leeway, allowing for turns at the steakhouse, arcs, and practices.

I've typed all of the important facts in CAPS, so they can be easy to read. Hope this helps, and I didn't drone on THAT much.

agree with goggles but necklace not necessary. If you like to s/l get a gamblers ring early and when you train you will be able to gamble to boost stats.

To answer the original post. The key is chocolate and energy. Doing stitch early is a good way of boosting abilities and energy. What you want is to start off by getting a curve ball- preferable level 2 (upgrade) by the time you first start. Also, you should try to boost stamaina before the first start. This way with the goggles you can strike out batters, they think fastball throw the breaking ball.. reverse. THis way you will last longer and get good scores from the games as a pitcher. As a batter you focus on power - so you can tee off and get doubles and homers (the goggles are aboout 70% correct so just guess on the pitch it shows and tee off). For extra events focus on ones that build energy. Many events are good for this. Jaw is great but I only use him at the beginning for the first gamblers ring (he gives you no energy). After you have your energy up then you want to use him. Focus on completing Stitch early and then decide what arcs you want to do next.

you buy a bunch of chocolates. THey will show green lit up when you go into the use section. Click on them whenever it is lit up. After you use one you cannot use another for a month, so just go back and check if you forget when you used it. If it is lit up then use it. Energy and chocolates work together to give you extra turns. There is a post somewhere around that has the formula but I forgot it. However, if you want lots a turns pay attention to the activities and see which gives you energy. When your energy meter (found in the other section of the data) is high and you are having chocoaltes you will end up with alot more turns per month (again can't remember formula but you can search it).

"Money spend on chocs is nothing when you get $1000+ from catching the TV thief"

actually, if you go for him right away by going to the restaurant and Marvin tells you where he is. THen you can save/reload to get him the first time as he gives cannon arm, increase throwing and 1575 that turn which is a nice boost.

Another nice one is the glove thief of the doctor. Again catching the person right away makes a huge difference in the rewards.

Dr goodjob is a pain. He shows up and you have a very good chance of failing his operation. I am at 4 losses to 1 win with him. I just never seem to get him and when I lost I reloaded many times doing exactly the same thing and he never came back. If you get him hopefully you saved it not too far back. Take the risk and if you lose reload but if you win the rewards are great.

The key is to play a few times and try different things. Then read some posts for more info. Then make a plan and go for it. You will have to adjust the plan based on the RE's you get. If you don't save/reload alot then you will have to make some adjustments. If you save/reload alot then you should be able to get most of your plan done. I am actually in the middle I try not to save/reload too many times (I mean really how many times can you watch stitch flip around the screen so you can get B2B or hot hitter). I would rather get a few jaw jobs done (2 weeks gives surprise bag) and then after having a few bags prepare for a little reloading until I get some books hitting or pitching. Then see what abilities you get.

One major piece of advice is get a good starting character. You can hope for but not likely going to get a genius but in this game the best to start with is actually poor sense as the stats are nice and it is fairly easy to boost to gd sense by certain events (search posts for gd sense).

If you are lucky to get a genius - mine started with an 85 mph fastball, level 2 sinker and level 1 sifb with d control and e stamina and gd sense. A few strength trains later and with the good sense your stamina is high and you will pitch well in games with the goggles.
