So I really love to have a dominant player and all but I'm thinking about designing a player to be a real blue chip prospect and upping the difficulty to hopefully get a more realistic effort out of MyLife mode. It's fun going into your 4th season with 250 home runs and all, but I'd kind of like to see what it's like to really develop a player. I'd kinda like to know what it's like to struggle some.

So I'm thinking of creating a player with maybe 175 STR at most? D's and C's for skills? And a real emphasis on getting traits and such out of the way. Lay the foundation for a solid young player who can really develop in a system instead of having an 18 year old kid hit 75 home runs his rookie season?

I realize I could just one of those templates at the beginning of MyLife mode, but at least this way I could detemine his strengths myself. Anybody else try something like this? Thoughts?

That is really the only way I create players.. Though this is for Season Mode as I haven't (YET) gotten into the MyLife Mode. I'll be getting there soon enough, but as far as creating players the Save/Reload 'cheat' to build a player just seems like cheapening the game to me.

Maybe I should just up the difficulty and pitch speed?

You'll still dominate with 175 Power. You can dominate with 140 Power no problem. You may want to start off with 7 or 8 Contact and 130 Power if you want a bit of a challenge. Changing pitch speed cant hurt either.

I am thinking of doing this too. I made my guys with B power and they are still hitting 60+ HRs per season. It'd be cool to make a guy who is constantly fighting to earn a spot and respect. Also, a guy who fights to hit .300 and get 80 RBIs.

MLB Life mode pitchers are around Es, but fielders tend to have mostly D+. So a challenge would be a bit lower than that

Try taking a guy through with just Es (mid-low E's for a pitcher- F is tooo far for me), I'm on the Expert curve in MLB.

I'm hitting 0 homers (I can hit the warning track if the wind is going that way), but I have a very good BA and OBP (I can work walks- though not as good as the AI) and is still the MLB steals leader by... a lot. Got traded to Pirates and now batting leadoff, though the 2-5 batters are batting anywhere from .145 to .270, mostly lower end, so despite my "table setter" skill (which I got in the first 2 years), I'm not getting batted in. Needless to say, I can't wait to be traded again.

My pitcher made the majors right out of the box: E stam/ctrl 80mph fastball (which is usually 75), lv1 shuuto, and drop curve, lv 3 palmball (the money pitch). Hot Headed and Spin 4 are the notable stats. You could probably roll a guy like this in "career MLB mode". He's now the closer for the LAD, but absolutely HATES power lefties (1 bad pitch and it's an insta-homer, all homers have come from lefties) - Int walks are my new lefty specialty. I lead the majors a month in with 12 saves and was NL player, pitcher, and rookie of the month of April.

I'm thinking of rolling through success mode and focusing on defensive stats/special abilities and leaving strength at maybe C echelon? 2 TRJ? I want to make improving key so that I have something more to look forward to if that makes any sense. I'd like to create a doubles hitter who would blossom into a home run hitter. A young Ken Griffey Jr.
