We're going to make all three. I don't know if its worth waiting a few days to voe, but at the end after pitchers I might get to it.
This will be 21-30.
21. Jessie Hanes He had a 3.64 ERA pre 1930s. I'm suprised he is a hall-of-famer considering the other players abilities at the Era.
22. Waite HoytWith a 3.59 Era with half of his career pre-1930s, I don't think he makes the cut.
23. Carl Hubbel He played mostly (all but 2 years) after the 1930s and had a 2.98 ERA and a .622 winning percentage. He passes.
24. Catfish Hunter I love this guy, but I just don't see him having a chance at being one of the ten starters. He has an impresive .574 winning percentage and a 3.26 ERA, but its not a contender for the final ten.
25. Fergie Jenkins Jenkins isn't as good as Catfish Hunter with a 557 WPCT and a ERA of 3.34.
26. Walter Johnson
I know this guy is pre-1930s, but he had an ERA of 2.17 and WPCT of .599.
27. Addie JossI hate putting so many pre 1900 pitchers in here, but I've put better guys who aren't nearly as good. His ERA was a phenomenal 1.89, but there isn't anything about him thats really know, so I doubt he will be in the final 10, but its certainly possible. I'd see him as a serious contender all the same.
28. Tim Keefe While he has very impressive stats, he is pre-1900s and he is not as good as the others in his ERA, and therefore won't have much of a chance of being in the final 10. His ERA is 2.62.
29. Sandy Koufax I believe this is the best pitcher of all time. He has an ERA of 2.76 and a 655 winning percentage in 1955-1965. Simply incredible, outstanding. I think hes even better then Whitey Ford.
30. Bob Lemon Despite his impressive winning percentage of .618, I just don't think he has a chance of the final 10 with his (also impressive) 3.23 ERA. I'm willing to listen to arguments for him though
We got a lot knocked out now. 16 of 30 are into the next round. That is a good amount, I was targeting towards 25 in the next round.

31. Ted Lyons With an ERA of 3.67 and a low 500s winning percentage and a career that was half in the 1930s, he doesn't make the cut.

32. Juan Marichal has an ERA of 2.89 in the 1960s, meaning he automaticaly makes it through.

33. Rube Marquard has an ERA of 3.08 before 1930s, so he doesn't make it.

34. Christy Mathewson While he was in the early 1900s, he had an eRA of 2.13 and a .665 Winning Percentage. He passes on.
More later.

35. Joe McGinnity As good as he was, he only pitched 10 years and wasn't as good as other pre-1900s pitchers. 2.66 ERA.

36. Hal Newhouser 3.06 ERA .580 Winnign Percentage. Very good, but not a contender fot eht top 10, so I didn't have him pass (I know I got much harser after the first 15, but I need to narrow it down)

37. Kid Nichols 2.95 ERA pre 1900s. Not as good as other pre-1900s pitchers.

38. Phil Niekro .537 Winning Percentage, 3.35 ERA in the 1950s and 1960s. Very good, but again no shot at the final 10.

39. Jim Palmer This guy is simply fantastic and is one of the only recent hall-of-famers that really has a strong chance at the top ten (not top 5, I don't think though). He is had a 2.86 ERA and a .638 WPCT.

40. Herb Pennock With a 360 ERA before the 1930s, he isn't as good as others in his Era. He has a .597 WPCT.
So, we know have 19 of 40. We have 18 more. I can finish this today. I've done most of the work ofr all of you haha, so now we can easily narrow it down to a reasonable, discussable amount. We will vote on 20 in at least 2 different votes. I think 25 is very likely as some of the better pitches will come up and i've noticed 5 very likely pitches to pass by scanning.

Lance, I thank you for trying to clarify that, but you accidentally keep on putting characters in there who haven't been decided on yet. Ty Cobb is not officially the center fielder. . He's one of the three being made and a potential starter (DiMaggio and Mayes are also. I actually think Dimaggio is the best player of them based on previous statistics I mentioned earliar in the thread (please search for them if you want to talk about this know, but I'm teporarily worried about pitchers), but Cobb might add the most as he isn't a slugger).
I've seen winshares before and while I find them a very interesting concept, I'm not too much of a fan of them.
Continuing Pitchers:
17. Bob Gibson With an ERA under 3 and a career from 1959 to the 70s, he passes.
18. Lefty Gomez While his ERA isn't much, he does have a 649 winning percentage, which is why he passes.
19. Burleigh Grimes While he is very good, I'm suprised this guy was a hall of famer as he played before the 1930s and had a 3.53 ERA and .560 Winning Percentage.
20. Lefty Grove I thinky Lefty Grove is highly over-rated after seeing this and his ERA is so high that I don't want to pass him as he's pre 1930. However, his 680 winning percentage convinces me plus his popularity. I don't see this guy making it past the "second round" though.
So, now 9 haven't passed out of 20.
Now 21-30.

I know he's not official but it looks so much nicer and neater with only one player at each position. ditto for catcher.

Is this better?
This is 41-50:
41. Gaylord Perry with a 3.11 ERA in the 1980s, Gaylord Perry passes.

42. Eddie Plank although he only played in the very early 1900s, he had an 2.35 ERA.

43. Old Hoss Radbourn As good as old hoss radbourn was, once again he was pre 1900s and had an 2.67 ERA. You know what I'm going to say next (its become so repetitive to make things faster!

44. Epp Rixey Once again, pre 1920s, .515 winning percentage (which is pretty low for a hall of famer) and a 3.15 ERA tell me his chances at bein inthe final 10, let alone the final 20, are very unlikely.

45. Robin Roberts ERA of .341, WPCT nothing special.

46. Red Ruffing I like Red Ruffing, but with a 3.80 ERA, he wouldn't have too good of a chance.

47. Amos Rusie With all the other amazing pre 1900s pitchers, Amos with an 3.07 ERA doesn't pass.

48. Nolan Ryan I actually don't think he should be in the last 10, though I haven't really looked into it. However, there is no chance the Strike Out King doesn't pass, and he could make it in based on his popularity. Its not as if he's that unqualified or anything

49. Tom Seaver with a 2.86 ERA in the 1960s, he definetly passes.

50. Warren Spin 3.06 ERA pass the 1940s.

So, now 24 of 50 are onto the next round. There are 8 left. We should see something around 26-28, a reasonable number.

Final Eight
51. Don Sutton I'm on the fence about Sutton. He did have a 3.26 ERA in the 90s and 80s. I don't think so, anyone disagree?
52. Dazzy Vance He had a 3.24 ERA before the 1930s.
53. Rube Waddell To quote Rizzuto, Holy Cow! This guy had a 2.16 ERA in the early 1900s. No quest he passes.
54. Ed Walsh I don't know what time he played, I don't where he played, I don't know if he won a single game in his life. What I do know is that Ed Walsh had a 1.82 ERA, and that's all I need to know (the best in the game).
55. Mickey Welch With a 2.71 ERA before the 1900s, just read what I said before, ok?
56. Hoyt Williams Wow! A 2.52 ERA after the 1960s. Sure this included a lowering of the mound, but still.
57. Vic Williams 2.63 ERA before the 1900s, again I'm on the fence but I don't think so.
58. Earl Wynn had a 3.54, so sorry Earl, but no.
(Did I skip a number? I thought there were only 58?)
59. Cy Young Despite the fact that I think he's highly over-rated and shouldn't have the award named after him, he was still an incredible pitcher and a contender for the top 10.
So that means that 28 of 59(59 or 58?) made it in. That narrows it down a hell of a lot into mangagable bites. I'll list everyone that passed and didn't in a few minutes. Anyone disagree with anything (sorry its so long and repetitive, but I did spend a long time doing this and got less and less orgiinality as time went on, until the very last 8/9)

Honus Wagner has won , he is the starting short-stop. Banks is the back-up.
Now before we go to third basemen, I'm making a collective list of pitchers who we know have to discuss. That's why I made yet another new post, so I could see already posted information without going back and forth.
Passed:
1. Rube Waddell
2. Ed Walsh
3. Cy Young
4. Hoyt Williams
5. Eddie Plank
6. Gaylord Perry
7. Nolan Ryan
8. Tom Seaver
9. Warren Spin
10. Juan Marichal
11. Christy Mathewson
12. Jim Palmer
13. Carl Hubbel
14.Walter Johnson
15. Addie Jossel
16. Sandy Koufax
17. Bob Gibson
18. Lefty Gomez
19. Lefty Grove
20. Grover Alexander
21. Chief Bender
22. Modercai Brown
23. Steve Carlton
24. "Happy Jack" Chesbro
25. Dizzy Dean
26. Don Dryesale
26. Bob Feller
27. Whitey Ford
Eliminated:
I created a list of who is eliminated so that you can easily see if anyone you like isn't in there anymore and can more easily argue it.
1. Don Sutton
2. Dazzy Vance
3. Mickey Welch
4. Earl Wynn
5. Vic Williams
6. Old Hoss Radbourn
7. Epp Rixey
8. Robin Roberts
9. Red Ruffing
10. Amos Rusie
11. Rube Marquard
12. Ted Lyons
13. Joe McGinnity
14. Hal Newhouser
15. Kid Nichols
16. Phil Niekro
17. Herb Pennock
18. Jessie Hanes
19. Waite Hoyt
20. Catfish Hunter
21. Fergie Jenkins
22. Tim Keefe
23. Bob Lemon
24. Burleigh Grimes
25. Jim Bunning
26. John Clarkson
27. Stan Coveleski
28. Dennis Eckersley
29. Red Faber
30. Rollie Fingers
31. Pud Galvin (maybe there actually were 59)
Now for third baseman, I'm thinking we should just throw A-Rod's name in there and see if he gets any votes. Does that sound fine? For others, I'm thinking (edit in a minute)
Schmidt
George Brett
A-Rod
Brooks Robinson
Eddie Mathews
Wade Boggs
I'll put up the poll now but if anyone sways me, I'll reset it. I just want to finish things up quickly.
Sound about right? (wow, 266 post! Simply incredible, this has been quite a big thread. I originally predicted we would get to 20 without making anyone, but I was kidding. I expected something like 10, 15 at most. Still, I think this will end up being successful.

A-rod's not a HOF yet.... Of course we all know he has a 99% chance of making it. So it seems alittle unfair that he can be on the HOF team.... You get way over protective of the players...

A-Rod's not one of my players, I just think he is the best third basemen in the game. I still was really on the fence so I let him be on the poll and let others decide. With A-Rod, you don't quite know how good he will be so its hard to give him stats. Maraino is towards the end of his career that I think he should be in there. A-Rod I'm starting to let go, but Mariano I'm not. Your right though, I am too biased with A-Rod and Yankees.
Edit: I've revamped the first post and am in the proccess of looking at free website pages I can make for this thread as there is so much information and it would be nice to put it in one place. If worse comes to worse, I can always make a page in the wiki verses one when its almost done.

He could tear his achilles tendon or something and be out for good or a long time, you never know. At least you admit it.
