It is more likely if there are less abilities left to learn, since instead of picking out of a pool of 10 abilities, you can pick out of a pool of only a few.

"The gyroball can be found in the "Secrets to Pitching" book. For those that don't know how to get it, it can be found in a "surprise bag" you receive from completing the "dog missions" from the investigator. To get the surprise bag, you have to have a 2-week time limit to find the dog (i have only received the surprise bag on 2-week limits, although maybe you can get it in a 3-week limit). Once you have the surprise bag, save the game. When you return, keep checking the surprise bag until you get the book. It will take much exiting-without-saving, but do this until you get the book. After you get the book, save and exit and keep repeating the exiting-without-saving until the book gives you the gyroball. This is the only way i have found it in success mode."

This was posted on another forum. I take no blame if it isn't true, and I do not accept credit as I did not discover and/or explain it.

I am not going to confirm/deny, but when I had: [[battler/poker face]], [[safe pitch]], [[gyroball]], and [[intimidator]] missing; the only two that kept rolling up was [[battler/poker face]] and [[safe pitch]]. I'll have to say I didn't reload/save a ton of times when I was rolling between those four. Maybe I could try this again.

I think that even if you got safe pitch and battler/poker face, you wont get gyroball. When do get them all, you will only get the opposite of what you have, if you have battler, youll get pokerface and lose battler, and visa versa.

The randomizer limit for getting Gyro must be getting a 1/100 or less...

In the 2007 version, you could get safe pitch from SoP, they must have taken it out in 08.

has anyone seen the "trash talker" ability? Catchers can acquire that skill and according to MLB PP '07, it "makes opposing batters nervous at the plate"

I'm pretty sure it's still available in MLB pp '08 and I'm guessing you can get it in success mode..

but I haven't even touched that skill in success mode and i was wondering if someone here already did.. :D
