Out of curiosity, why did you vote that? Don't worry, I won't be such an obnoxious jerk as I was earliar and slam you for anything. I just get so defensive over Mariano.

What about Biggio? I know he can't beat Honsby but he could make it as a reserve.

I forgot him, sorry mate. Its too late to edit the poll but I don't think he's in the top 2. Its definetly looking like Jackie and Hornsby, one will be the back-up and one a starter. The question is which will be which (which will be decided by the poll, which ends today).

First is pretty much decided (Lou Gherig), I am yet to see anyone disagree. We may look at back-ups, but I think determining starters is most important. The same is true for Left and Right Field. I'll do second base next and third base last. I will also do a vote where people can choose 3 players which include Ty Cobb, Willie Mayes, and Joe Dimaggio along with a few other players. This will determinethe fourth and 5th fielders and if one of these three aren't inthere, then unfourenetly they won't be made. Then we'll go into pitching starters and I'll list 15 options and let people choose as much as 5 of them. I don't know what these 15 will be. The starters one I'll leave up for a week but the others will be 2-3 days. Once we determine short stop and third (by the end of the week, I'll give both 2 days), we should start determining players stats. Babe Ruth should be saved on the off chance someone gets a genius and is willing to use him for the Bambino, if not he will just be an incredible hitter (which is relatively easy) versus a hall-of-fame pitcher and hitter (which is relatively impossible even with a genius). However, we could start with soem players. I say we start with the actual starters for each posistions and do back-ups last. This would mean Lou Gherig, Yogi Berra, Ted Williams, you get the picture. By then, starting pitchers should be decided and we can work on them. After that, we'll vote on revilers, first for closer and then for set-up and then for every other reliver. Finally, we'll get to back ups like Johnny Bench (the best back-up catcher to ever play the game without doubt haha). I wish the game allowed big ears for Yogi.
Edit:
I decided to take a look at Lou Gherig's stats and write them down. I don't think we can count his career statistics when he make them as the last two years were heavily effected as he suffered from the tragic Lou Gherig's disease. So, I think with him that we should base it on a particular year.
This year, Lou Gherig had his second-highest On Base Percentage, the second most RBIs, the third most homers, the best slugging percentage, the third highest full season average (he hit 500 one year, but it was 12 at-bats haha), the third most runs scored, and the best OPS of his career. I think his best year was 1927, see if you agree.
Season Team G AB PA H 1B 2B 3B HR R RBI BB IBB SO HBP SF SH GDP SB CS AVG
1927 Yankees 155 584 717 218 101 52 18 47 149 175 109 84 3 21 10 8 .373

BB% K% BB/K OBP SLG OPS ISO BABIP RC RC/27
15.7 % 14.4 % 1.30 .474 .765 1.240 .392 .377 211 14.42
He struck out way more then he ever did any other year. This guy would have had well over 600 home runs and approached (but almost certainly not reached) 700 homers and have the most RBIs if he hadn't got Lou Gherig's disease (remember, the last 2 years should not be counted as he was affected by this. The last year he was a very bad player kept purely because of his past.
I got my statistics from http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?pl ... osition=1B
I hate that bonds has one more RBI then him after steroids. After reading Luckiest Man, Lou Gherig has become my favorite player and to see him beaten in that regard, even for one who is third place (and would have been first), frustrates me immensely.

Roger Hornsby has won as the poll has officially closed. Now we will go to short stop. Who should the candidates be?
I'm thinking: (the site I looked at ranked A-Rod as the best before he went to Mariners? I looked at another one, although that would probably be the case instead of being best at third as netiher of these positions have had that good hitters compared to others historically)
Honus Wagner
Cal Ripken Jr
Derek Jeter (I think he's in the top 5 of all time but definetly not number 1, unless your in the post-seaso haha)
Ozzie Smith
Lou Boudreau
Sound good?
Actually, maybe I shouldn't have Jeter as he's active. I didn't expect him to win, but he might from bias. I was trying to come up the number 5 guy. Any ideas for the fifth player?

I think Ernie Banks should be in there. Although he played 50% of his games at 1st Base which makes him a double threat. He hit 521 HR.

Oh, by the way, I think we should make Jimmie Foxx for 1B as well. Lou Gehrig does beat him at most statistics except for HRs, but Foxx's numbers are way higher than anyone elses. He wasn't called the Beast for nothin', which would be cool to create as his nickname. Here is the comparison:

Honus Wagner should be the clear starting shortstop. While some more casual fans may not be impressed by his statistics, he did this in the 1900's through the 1910's where runs were extremely scarce. his 1904 (i think) season is better than Ruth's 1927, in context.

I don't know, I think "Mr. Cub" has a clear shot at getting the starting spot, although I wouldn't be too upset if Wagner got the call.

Allright, Ernie Banks is in there now.
So:
Honus Wagner
Cal Ripken Jr
Ernie Banks
Ozzie Smith
Lou Boudreau
Nap Lajoie
Sound good?
I think we can all unanimously agree on Lou Gherig starting and Foxx as back-up, am I right?
