Well you don't need to follow it to the letter, but some saving and loading will get you an elite player that's not maxed out. At the very least you can use some of the things you learn to make an above average starter with some patience.

For pitchers, I screw over top speed. I can usually get B stamina and Control and 2 maxed pitches and I don't ever s/l.

Do the steak lady arc each time you do it it adds power to your guy. If you date patty give her a teddy bear at x-mas you get a gamblers ring then you can gamble the stats you wish to increase. Sadly without some form of save load your character may lack the contact/power or fielding capabilities you wish. I'm not saying save load everything, but you may need to do some along the way. The arcs that will yield you the appropriate points you will need is siitch's arc and steak lady arc those 2 primarily will help you build an average to slightly above average power hitter player if you wish to do no save loading. Otherwise you have to hope you get a good player at the start i.e. good starting stats like 50+ power. Try by the first game to have at least 3-4 contact and 2-3 trajectory. If you hit a homer each game you'll receive power hitter by mid year 2.

I do all of Sittch's arc? Have you ever completed Steak Lady's arc? How do I tell if its Christmas? Isn't it Christmas more than once? PLEASE ANSWER ANY OF THESE IF YOU KNOW THEM!

1. Yes you should always complete Sittch's arc no matter what unless you want to make a more specialized character.
2. Yes, I have. You get Power hitter and a lot of power for hitters and for pitchers start finisher and stamina. You also get the chance to get other abilities in some of the other parts of her arc.
3. Christmas is on the 4th week of December and to date Patty, she must come and see you on Christmas
4. Nope only one Christmas

Also above all else check the wiki for certain abilities and arc info.

Also dont underestimate the importance of free time activities. Once you have the GR, going for a run in the park or a hike up the mountain is a great way to get stats up. And the MOST important thing is carryover chocolate

Now if you are dating girls i.e. Patty, Emily and Lucy. (Emily I don't believe I've ever given her a x-mas gift yet still got her offerings). Usually after November week 4 (when they announce whether you have made AAA) I buy a gift from Bison. With regard to Patty, the dude (forgot his name) doesn't always come at week 2-3 of december, and the majority of times he's given the romance necklace which will yield the secrets of hitting ability and a special bag. If you give a bear (which you will need to buy instead) you get a gamblers ring. Another thing I did when I first started out look at the walk throughs from the Wiki and pretty much have an idea of the player your creating, Allotour (sorry for the misspell) has updated the abilities and how to get them, obviously some abilities you won't be able to get with others such as if you do Lucy's arc (for intimidator and/or Dr K) but you want fastball life 2 (if your doing a real player).

Note: Eric is the success mode genius. I've asked him on how to get nearly every ability. He did a guide for one player can't remember which one but it was very thorough. Mostly though trial and error is another way to find how to get abilities.

You can also get a gambler's ring by working for Jaw. The first time you work for Jaw he'll ask you to find a dog and it's almost always to the right. You're almost always guaranteed to get a surprise bag from this which you can use to get a gambler's ring. I know that you said you didn't want to do a lot of saving and loading, but you should absolutely always save before using the ring. Not only are you going to want the ability you're gambling for, but there's a chance it will break. If you hold onto it the whole time you can sell it to Bison at the end of success mode for $750 and you can add that towards glove/bat/spikes wax.

I mentioned that way of getting the gamblers ring since he wanted to make a character with pretty much no save/load. About the steak lady I think it ends with her giving you the super steak?? (could be wrong) but I do know in looking for the 'cow' you both find it to be a hoax. After eating the super steak you get a power-for fielders or stamina-pitchers boost

She gives you a one time extra boost to stamina or power. It's 25 for stamina and 8 for power.

without any saving and reloading or gambling I managed to get a hitter yesterday with A contact (I think 14) A power (247) and C speed and power hitter, I used the steak arc a ton and I had a decent guy going into the last week despite being really rusty and not hitting well, then I got the Doc and a really really successful operation that made my dude amazing for no saving reloading )also had not great but decent fld and e res, though arm strenght was horrible (1b didn't think that would be a huge deal)

awesome fortune on that run dude. my max power for success mode has been 204, but i make my dudes pretty balanced. i always make sure to get the blue abilities that cannot be aquired in season mode (throwing, stealing, baserunning, clutch, vs lefty, consistemcy, durability)

Go to this page:
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4896&start=15

Follow the last 2 lanceberkman steps
Go to Jaw a lot because it can give you money to buy equipment
Also go to Sittch, Isabella, and Frank (Not as Required)
With Sittch you get lots of experience points, especially after you complete the arc
With Isabella, you get money and power/stamina, a win/win situation there
With Frank, you get get minor experience points, but there is the chance of getting annoying Insomnia.
