I HATE when that happens. I think the Wii-Remote can sense your blood pressure, and can tell if you're relaxed. If you are, it decides to be nice to you.

WE've had actual theories on this. I was so nervous about getting the GR, and I didn't get it. So I let my friend try, and he didn't care because it wasn't his character. He got it on the first try. :?
