New to the forums and was just wondering what these ratings will be based upon? Im really interested in the process if any one has the time to explain it.

Short explanation: 2- and 3-year regressed aggregate based on indicative rate stats.

Slightly longer explanation: Stats are obtained from FanGraphs, Baseball-Reference, Baseball Prospectus, Texas Leaguers, and other sites, then boiled down on an Excel spreadsheet with applied standard deviations and replacement level regression. So, for SPD, I might apply stdev & regression to speed score, various SB rates, 3B%, IFH%, and a number of other stats so they are on par with one another, then combine them into an aggregate score, which I then use to determine the MLBPP SPD rating for each player. We know the MLBPP 2008 default roster features 6 players with 14 SPD, 9 players with 13 SPD, 67 players with 12 SPD, etc so I try to keep the distribution similar, but not necessarily exact.

Very conclusively done. Although the stat collection is vital, i would have to say keeping the game balanced (by keeping distribution similar like you are doing) is just as important, so i tip my hat to you doing that.

Always fascinating to see the methods by which rating are given in sports games.

PS: So im guessing miggy will be the ordonez equivalent in this update?

No players will have CON 15. Too powerful. I can't remember the specifics, but I ran a bunch of simulations with generic players and I think CON 13 is a pretty consistent .330 hitter without too many blue/green abilities, and Miggy will definitely have his share of blue/green abilities. When I created my 80's league, Wade Boggs had CON 14 offset w/ VsLefty2, and Tony Gwynn had CON 13, and there is a hitter equivalent to either of those guys right now.
