With the winter meetings in full bloom, rosters are beginning to materialize for the 2011 season and that baseball itch starts to twitch. I still haven't found a baseball game I enjoy as much as MLBPP 08, but the challenge of updating rosters multiplies every season. How many of you would be interested in a full set of updated players and abilities for 2011? It's not hard for me to do, but would you use it? Be honest.

It really makes me wish 2K would release just one stinking version of MLBPP for the PS3. I would be more than happy to collaborate with them on a downloadable version, a la Fat Princess, that highlights H2H and group play. The fast-paced, arcade style action of MLBPP would be a perfect fit, plus most of the hard work is already done (game engine, animations, etc.)

I'd go for a roster update... it'd take a lot of time to put it into the game, but it'd get me playing again if I had all the correct rosters and stats. I think.

If you have a PS3 already, I would suggest Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2010.

It is in Japanese, but still has that same Power Pros charm (and it's easy to understand, so that's a plus)

Though I got it for $80 (I think) pricey, but I bought it here: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-bp-49-en-70-3tgd.html and it came within 2 days (I got the kind of expensive shipping option).

So, yeah, since you've played Power Pros already, you know what it's all about, so this game should be easy. Plus, it's really fun.

NOTE: It is the Japanese teams, The NPB, so don't be expecting to play as your favorite MLB team. (I bet you already knew that, but I'm just putting it out there).

:)

sounds like a great idea. it surely would be alot of work. the more guys you could get to work on this the easier it would be. say you get 30 people to work on this, you could assign each one a team to work on. is it possible to edit the salaries of players in arrange mode? that would be important if you decided to play season with the new rosters. some ideas to kick around.

Yeah. I think it wouid be good. Too bad I don't have a clean copy of the game to do a straight edit from 2008 rosters to 2011. I think it <might> be impossible to do this straight edit. The only clean copy I have is 07.

I still play it everyday. I would TOTALLY use 2011 rosters.

If you do do the roster/abilities update, I just have one question...

Is it possible to move any, if at all, data from MLBPP from the Wii memory to an SD card?

Faced with the daunting task of manually updating the rosters, player by player, I did some research and came across a whole community of people who hex edit game saves for PS2. I can hex edit NES games (Baseball Stars!), but until somebody writes a step-by-step manual fit for a 10 year old, I'm not even sure how to get the PS2 save info from the card to my computer.

By the way, I'm almost ready to post my first 2011 hitters update. Version 1.0 will feature everyone who accumulated 100 PA's between 2008-10 (about 650). Everything is accounted for, including the 80 special abilities for batters/fielders.

OK.

Will I have to go back into older topics about who to replace which person with with the update? Or something else, if you know what I mean?

The players' ages will be included, but whether or not you want to keep Josh Hamilton as Josh Hamilton or turn one of the older guys into Josh Hamilton so you can use Josh Hamilton to make somebody slightly younger than Josh Hamilton (eh?) is something I will leave up to you guys. The age issue is one of the main reasons I want to hex edit my save file. There would be no need for Arrange Mode and by subtracting three years from everyone's date of birth (i.e. change 1981 to 1978), every player would be the correct age for 2011.

To Eric, I have been experimenting with hex editing, and have been able to give created players some red abilities that you can't get in success mode i.e. poor day or night game, decrease in poise and lefty 2. Thats about as far as it goes. I haven't done a full scale roster file edit (on the default players). Getting the data on the computer is the easy thing. It's the deciphering of which hex data does what that took me ages.

So exactly how do you get the save to your computer? And which hex editing programs have you tried using? Everything is in 16-bit chunks like Baseball Stars, which is fun and fairly easy to edit once you get the hang of it.

If you have a PSP, get a Datel Max Media Kit.

It has a disk that allows you to transfer saves from your PS2 to your PSP or vice versa. Once on the PSP, you can easily transfer it to your comp. I use it all the time for NFL 2k5 roster mods. Works like a charm.

And I would definitely, absolutely use an MLBPP 2011 roster mod. I love this game.
