Hello MLBPP Community, I recently picked up a copy of 2008 new for the Wii; furthermore, I'm pretty serious about getting into the roster update business.. I'm just wondering how active members in the community are with updating their rosters? Anyways, you really can't beat the simulation quality of Power Pros; I picked up 2k10 for the 360 and resold it online with 24 hours.

Nevertheless, it's great to join a dedicated community to the series, and serious respect to everyone for keeping this game alive! I saw that Youtube video with the 2K Sports producer telling us to "Keep [our] eyes open" for a future release in North America. I have a very strong feeling that the next installment in the series will hit stores here in the near future. For the time being, It's 2008 all day.

Lastly, I made a post in the Pawa Puro forum regarding Jikkyou Powerful Major League 2009.. Is anyone currently playing that game in any shape or form - console/emulator, etc?

Thanks for reading my post, cheers!

Expo~

Please se the Wiki page in my signature (3rd link) for a list on the Wiki of currently created players. All links lead to passwords, which you can import.

If you have guys you want to start making to help out, via Success mode, I would say - excellent! post a thread about a guy you want to start to get input from the community on stats, pitch types, abilities, etc.

Great, thanks for the warm welcome guys! Also, thank you for the links Alloutwar, you have obviously put a ton of time into the rosters, and I think that's awesome. Keep it up!

On that note, I read in an earlier post that retired players are having their stats and abilities diminished, and people are creating new and active players over top. Do a lot of people just edit retired players into active ones, or is going through the MLB Life more popular? Otherwise, how much of a pre-made player can you edit (I know that birth date is unchangeable)?

Oh also, Alloutwar, are the long combinations of letters, numbers and symbols posted in screenshots below the created players passwords?

Thanks again guys,

Hey there Expos,

Many folks (with the help of Eric Davis 44) just edit the rosters manually. They pick a player with a close DOB to the one they want to make (same, for Garrett Jones, just another player with a birthday within that month and year), and edit that player into Garrett Jones - setting all the abilities manually. The Edit Player feature, combined with Arrange Mode, lets you save them as new players and then restore the original. That's the fastest way to edit the rosters.

So if you bought the game from scratch, the steps would be like this:

1) edit any player with the name 'Great' - Great Abreu, Great Molina, etc. These are real players, but the names weren't included for licensing reasons. There is a listing of the Greats for 2008 here on the boards submitted by B Garrett that is pretty good.

2) edit any real-life players you want to make them more in-line with how they are. Buff up Greinke, Cliff Lee and Sabathia, and nerf the guys that flopped, like Mark Prior, Schilling, etc. Set them to Durability 2 if they've been out all year. I haven't made a complete list of changes, but I go through each team's roster and edit guys - give Michael young 3B as a position, set Jacoby Ellsbury's speed to A, etc. It takes a few nights of work and MLB knowledge to get the rosters right. I also remove guys that stopped playing - like Juan Encarnacion on the Cardinals.

**This editing will not work for REALLY young guys, like Heyward, Kershaw, etc. No one in the game is that young, so those guys have to be made from Success Mode.

3) Add in any success-mode Created Players you want, from that list on the Wiki. A lot of great guys here have taken tons of time to create realistic guys - down to Nick Green's pitching ability. A lot of role players and minor guys, and a lot of work left to do - but if you want to play with all the real names, give teams all the depth options they need, and avoid the first-year draftees pitching in July, this is how to do it.

We've also spent time creating realistic players that aren't included, like Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Pokey Reese, etc - guys that maybe could still compete.

The letters/symbols in screenshot are indeed passwords. You can go to the bottom right option in MLBPP and select Enter Password mode to type them in. It takes 3 to 4 minutes per password, but it's worth it.

A lot of guys like me create real-life players in Success mode (not My Life - that's for emulating a career), simply to fill out rosters without using Arrange mode, and to share these guys for everyone's use. Success Mode also gets you a few hundred points, and can be fun once you're good at it. We have a ton of guys left to do, so if you feel like taking on a reliever or someone easy....if you're a Expos/Nats fan, maybe one of their newer guys, like Jordan Zimmermann or Drew Storen?

Alloutwar... You're the man, I appreciate your elaboration tremendously towards updating rosters. Wow, that's a lot of info, and I definitely need to just get my hands dirty in order to better understand, but I've got the main idea. OK, whenever I decide to contribute a player via success mode, I'll let the community know!

BTW - here's how to do roster updates via Arrange Mode, if you are so inclined. Eric Davis was nice enough to explain it all. you would still need to import SOME players, for whome there is no DOB counterpart in teh game - but this gets you all those Nelson Cruz types at least.

A trick for creating realistic players and updating rosters for 2009 without using Success Mode or a GameShark:

1) Make necessary edits to current players and create your arrange teams with the current players to reflect current 2009 rosters and SAVE. Return to Edit mode and reset all players to default. (Don't worry. The edited players in Arrange Mode will still be edited.)
2) Make a list of the players you need to create and include their b-days. I suggest you do this in Excel so you can sort by b-day.
3) Go here: (http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/ ... =10&day=31). For each player you need to create, use this resource to find the player in MLBP2008 who is closest in age.
4) Edit the current player to the created player, add him to the appropriate arrange team, return back to Edit mode, and reset the player back to default. Some default players will serve as the editable player multiple times, especially the young ones.
5) Continue until your rosters are complete.

Some of your players won't have the exact same birthday as their real life counterparts, but it will be close. The bottom line is your players will age properly AND it saves loads of time.

Excellent, thanks for the detailed instructions, Alloutwar. I think I've got it; I hope the community stays strong and promotes this game, with a consistent graphics scheme and, MLBPP really has eternal potential. IN FACT, I don't even really think it's necessary for 2K to release Power Pros annually like they do with MLB 2K... All that is needed for MLBPP is online support with roster updates.

Cheers, and keep up the good work!

:/ unfortunately we're the last of the community that's left lol.
But considering most of the guys I see here are new-ish, that proves we'll be able to last long enough for the next game.

Hey MLBPP Community,

Since switching to the PS2 Version of 2008, I've been searching through the created players list! An extraordinary amount of time has obviously been dedicated to creating these players, especially on behalf of members like robhallett and ED44. I'm wondering, has anyone considered posting their updated arrange teams as a base save to work from?

Personally, I enjoy Power Pros purely for its customization depth, and I realize that many people create totally custom teams/rosters apart from the MLB completely.

The process would involve a ISB Drive and either uLaunchElf/FreeMcBoot (I have this method) Or an Action Replay of some kind. Simply Transfer the PS2 save from the Memory Card > USB Drive. From there, the save could be uploaded to the PC from the USB Drive. Has anyone considered this?

Hey MLBPP Community,

I'm wondering what the change of color in the player's name bar indicates after being edited? For instance, I have imported some edits via Password that have yellow/orange or green/orange name bars. However, when I edit a player, part of his bar always turns purple. Also, I don't seem to be able to edit the appearance/abilities of these Password imported edits; is there any way to do this?

Thank you!

Edited players will get a purple underbar under their name. An orange underbar indicates a player created in success mode. You can't edit players made in success mode (other than stats and voice). Whatever you managed to earn when you created him is what you get.

P.S. There is also a light blue underbar for players made in MLB Life mode with an item called "The Mirror of Truth," but those players are very rare.
