Post subject:  Powerful Major League 2009 vs. MLB PP 2008: Differences

I've just recently started playing Powerful Major League 2009 (aka MLB Power Pros 2009) and have immediately noticed some big differences versus the last U.S. release. Of course, everyone knows about the WBC and Catcher's Modes, but do you know there's now a scouting feature in season mode and that you can view all time MLB player records in the options screens?

I thought I'd list as many as possible and, anyone else with the game, feel free and mention any I left off.

Game Modes:
*WBC Mode

*Catcher Mode (Success mode)

*Success Mode - 5 story lines (one for each team you can play for)

*Season Mode now offers the bullpen (can be toggled on and off) and up to 20 seasons of game play.

Game Play:
*"Yomi" or "Read" System allows batted balls to be hit harder depending on contact. (Can be toggled on and off)

*Running attributes more important (stealing much more difficult, harder for all players to remain safe on a Fielder's Choice)

*"Defining/Turning/Defense Points" are cutscreens throughout a game that highlight moments that may affect the outcome of the game.

*Momentum swings can occur during a potentially strong offensive rally or after an opposing pitcher shuts down the offense while at their strongest, essentially switching the momentum from one team to the other. Players who have the momentum all change to bouncing pink faces, temporarily, while batting no matter what condition they were already.

Options:
*Scouting for June player draft (Season mode)

*View all-time MLB player team/player records (Season mode)

Trades:
*Select players the CPU will refuse to trade.

Store:
*Shea and Old Yankee Stadium available to purchase.

Other:
*For each game you win in season mode, you're awarded a player card from the team you've defeated. Player cards are similar to those in MLB PP 2008 in that they don't really do anything other than provide some stats and a brief written summary of the player.

*Hints/tips offered during loadup screens.

I love you for showing us this but at the same time I hate you for showing us this. :P It's like eating a 30 oz filet mignon in front of a homeless guy.

Very Very happy someone else has bought the game. I'm assuming you've got it for the PS2 according to your profile. I'm wondering what else the game has over the Wii version.

Also I know the Wii version has Wii motion mode. What does the PS2 have in replacement of that just curious.

Goodways - PS2 doesn't have any sort of motion option, but that's how I prefer playing it too.

BTW- Going back to the scouting feature, I think I've figured it out. I'm creating a new topic for it here:

Dude I know there's no motion play on the PS2. My question was what's in place or what is there that replaces that one feature on the PS2

What screen is that on? Without knowing it's hard to say, since I don't have the Wii version to compare it to.

The five different success modes is what I was looking forward to the most. To me, one of the biggest appeals of the series are the charming and humorous success modes.

This almost incentive to learn Japanese.

I second that learning japanese, which I'm trying to do right now.

Well, if I now have to save up to get another PS2 and get it modded, then so be it. Then after that, I think I'll just go to Japan and get a copy myself. This game sounds like a very good game.
