Post subject: | Creating Pitchers..... |
Hi guys, was starting a season with the Tigers (my favorite team...despite what I accidentally selected in my profile) and got about a third of the way through the season and really miss some of the new guys that aren't on the roster. Fu-Te Ni, Perry, Porcello, Avila, etc. I saw the great thread about updating the hitters so I am very excited for that, but I am trying to go about creating the pitchers. The problem I am having is compiling reasonably accurate information. I've probably sent the last two hours looking at data, and I am still not sure how to create these guys and on top of it, not sure what some of their pitches are. Not to mention the incredible variation on pitch speed I hear depending on the source. "He is a 92-94 guy, but hits 98 at times....though his fastball was around 90 today." Or a guy who has a bit different curve ball to throw. I've read "he has an MLB plus change-up" from one source, to "his slider is his second best pitch coupled with a marginal change-up" Is there any place where I can see what pitches a pitcher has in his arsenal that is accurate? Just to even figure out what kind of pitches to give them would be an incredible plus. Thanks! |

And just another piece of info, you can change your favorite team by going to the top of the page and selecting "User Control Panel". From there, you go to the left of the page and select Profile. Near the bottom of the page (3rd option from bottom), there's going to be a dropdown box where you can select the Tigers. Hope that helps! |

Thanks! Fixed that. If I want to create players do I have to take each one through Success mode? I just looked at that and it looks like the only option. I miss one? |

You can edit players to look like them, but if you edited him over Randy Johnson, Porcello or somebody would be 44. |

Since you cannot edit players' birthdays, you have to edit a player that was born in the same year if possible. For Porcello, you'd edit a pitcher born in 1988. |

Unfortunately, there isn't a single pitcher born 1988 in MLBPP. As for the discrepency between a pitcher's max fastball speed and his average fastball speed, most pitchers throw two or more fastballs. Porcello might be able to pump his 4-seamer in there at 97 mph, his best pitch is that sinking 2-seamer he throws between 91-93 mph. He varies the sink and run on it causing PitchFx to register it as two different pitches (2-seamer and cutter) but for purposes of MLBPP, I would give him a quality a 2-seamer (2SFB) and a sinking fastball (SIFB, not SNK or HSNK) and combine it with Fastball Life and Grounball P. His 12-6 curve (DCB) was his best pitch in high school, but not anymore. It has no late bite. Same with his slider, which is actually a slurve (SLV). I would give him Spin 2 (red/bad) and low ratings for both of his breaking balls. His changeup is a circle change (CCHG) that grades out below average/average, but is slightly better than his breaking balls. I'm not sure what other special abilities I would give him. You have to be careful when making pitchers - a couple of plus pitches and a few abilities is all it really takes to make them Bob Gibson. |

That's what I am afraid of, especially if I make him a young guy, I don't want him to be overpowered. That is some great info and I really appreciate it. I was debating between giving him a 2-seamer and a SIFB, but giving him both definitely makes sense. I didn't realize he used a circle change so good catch on that. I noticed you can create players in MLB Life, but I only fooled around with it for a couple minutes, and there didn't seem to be many options. (I unlocked a bunch of different throwing motions, yet could only apply 1) I just finished a success mode with a player and noticed I could use him in a season, but I'd definitely hate to have to do that for each of the players. Of course I guess I could and just skip a lot of text, at least I'd seem to have a lot of control. |
