It's too big to post because of the screen shots, so I'll just link to my review of the DS version here....

That's funny, in the playoff screen. 7 of the 8 teams shown are in the playoffs this postseason, except Texas. I gotta laugh outta that, and nice review by the way! :)

I thought it was automatically chosen, not manually. Guess I didn't read the fine print, closely enough.

Thanks!

Yeah, Anaheim (err... Los Angeles of Anaheim) doesn't do a whole lot representing the AL West anyway, so no loss replacing them with Texas in the playoff field :) Other than that I just laid out the 2008 playoff bracket and played through. It'd be cool if the game let you randomly generate the playoff field instead of manually selecting them each time, but oh well. Just another example of lack of effort put into the DS version. The more I've read about the Japanese Powerful Pro Pocket DS versions (I have version 8 from 2005, but 11 came out recently and 10 is supposed to be amazing) the more disgusted I am with how little care Konami and 2KSports put into MLB Power Pros 2008 DS.

Very nice review Wyl. Both reviews have been so impressive and much more informative then any proffesional reviews I've seen so far. Ever consider a change of proffessions? Haha.

Thanks for the compliment :) Not sure how well game reviewing pays, but it'd be fun to do at least on a freelance basis. I know what you mean about "professional" reviews, the lack of detail in them frustrates me as well. I get the feeling with most reviews that the reviewer didn't do much more than skim the manual over dinner and then spend an hour running through the main features before sitting down to write the review.

Actually though, I *am* a professional author in addition to my day job. I've had a dozen or so books and about 50 articles published over the last 10 years. So writing isn't completely foreign to me :) The question on writing reviews would be how far in advance of release a reviewer could get the release version of a game. Most review sites want to be the first to get a review online, and that can be a conflicting agenda with having enough time/experience with a game to write a truly informed/detailed review.

hmm i liked that review it was detailed but i dont understand what you meant about XBH i get them all the time and i normally score pretty high (except for the 2 hardest levels) and i like the gameplay view in hear a bit more then the wii version. I like how it gives you a preview of where your pitch will end up with movement and i like how they show the level of speed of people on bases, and they show all the abilities of the batters during the at bat. I dont know i liked it but then again i got it for free so i cant really justify if it is worth it or not.

I know everyone is congratulating you and everything, but I always find something wrong.

It's a good review but I have seen better and I have seen worse. They were awfully short and didn't review the whole game (of course in the DS version their wasn't much) in the jap version you really only talked about how much better it was and success mode, you didn't point out any problems, while I know it's hard to understand and stuff.

If I was you, I WOULDN'T consider a profession change (haha) as you could be better and I know this may not be you best but from what I have... I also haven't played this game much but from what I do know....

I'd give this review 5/10 maybe 6/10 if I was in a good mood, but I'm not.....

EDIT and once again, I know you may be limited on the jap but on the american.....

Post subject:  Re: MLB Power Pros 2008 DS review

DrMario, to be fair I wasn't reviewing the Japanese version. I said in the first paragraph that I was simply using it as a point of comparison to MLB Power Pros 2008 DS. My primary purpose for that was that I've seen posts here and on 2K's forums suggesting that the DS platform (storage capacity specifically) was the limiting factor on why the DS version of MLBPP 2008 is so stripped down as compared to the Wii/PS2 versions. By comparing the features sets between the two, I demonstrated that the only "problem" was laziness on Konami/2K Sports' part, there was no technical reason why they couldn't have included Success, Season, and MLB Life modes. It would be ridiculously unfair to actually try to review the Japanese version given my inability to read Japanese.

I will agree that I didn't dive as deep into the gameplay in the review as I could have. But that was a matter of understanding my audience. I was writing to an audience that is familiar with MLBPP and didn't need a high level of hand holding through basic gameplay concepts (like selecting pitches, using the batting cursor, etc.). If I was writing the review for a more general mass market audience, I would have included more detail on that type of stuff. But I do understand your point.

I actually disagree with you Dr. Mario, I think this was much better then any reviews on this game and the DS specifically I've seen. When I said that before Wyl, I was just kidding around, but that doesn't mean I don't think you have what it takes haha. You appear to be a very strong writer and I think the reviews you've made (especially the one on 2008, that convinced me to buy it) were better then any others out there. Of course, most proffessional reviewers might not have the time to delve into everything like you did, but all the same it was fantastic. If you ever do go into reviewing, give us a few links haha. All the same, I would understand any hesidince as thats basically telling us who you are. However, if I see an outlandishly good review on Power Pros next year and none from you here, I might begin to wonder haha.
