What are some of the worst Coaching/A.I. you've seen in this game?

I'm playing against the AL All Stars. A-Rod has had three at bats. GO, HR, HR.
The computer just pulled him for M. Young!
The next batter is David Ortiz, he hit a double last time up, the computer pulled him for Mike Lowell.
Crazy.

It's the all star game. They always pull the players.

It was an Exhibition Game. I've seen the same in other games (eg: pulling Ortiz or Manny for Lowell)

The moves appear much more bizarre in games that don't involve an all-star team.

It seems alot of times someone gets pinch-run for by a player with equal or even less
speed. (Big Johnny Gomes is a professional pinch runner, apparently).

Also, I know its because I've edited the rosters, etc, but midway through the
game Seattle will always make a defensive substitution which always involves having the CF and RF swap positions (In my case its Ichiro and J. Reed).

But yeah, the inexplicable pinch running is fairly consistant.
Also, the AI coaches seem to be confused on when they should bring in their closers.

Oh, and in scanning through some of the team stats during the season, it appears that many coaches just can't resist sending out there E-stamina closers out for the occasional start...

I agree with the Bad Coaching part because in my life mode, i was playing against the white sox (im the Red sox) and they put in their closer which happened to be Papeblon!

so after the game i checked the transactions and they traded EVERYONE!!

Ortiz
Papelbon
Beckett
Youlk
Lowell

for no named BAD players it was rediculous!

And as I was going to say, "Well at least they didn't trade Beckett - wait they traded Beckett???"

Seems strange for a franchise to build for the future when they've won 2 World Series in the past 4 years

I bet it's because they wanted to use Ausmus as a defensive replacement. But why they wouldn't do it between innings escapes me. Oh right, of course. Coaches are idiots.

It was the top of the third and I checked after the game and my defensive stats were better than him.

The pitching staff handling is what I find the most egregious. In MLB Life mode I routinely see swingmen relieving one night and then starting the next night even though they start panting after a batter or two. I know it's because their status isn't 'gray' at the start and the CPU is inserting them in place of the normal starter who is still 'gray,' but it's bad coding logic. I also see quite a bit of closers pitching in the middle innings, and teams burning through so many pitchers that they have to resort to using 'gray' starters at the end. And the latter happens even in non-blowout games that only go 10-11 innings. The CPU also doesn't select relievers based on anything other than role. Like they'll bring in guys with purple motivation to get lit up while other comparable stats guys with red/pink motivation don't get called on until the game is out of reach. Just dumb dumb dumb...

Another strange trend is the MLB/AAA moves that happen at the beginning of season mode. Every AI team makes a handful of MLB/AAA switches on the first day.

Obviously there's alot of moves made that are questionable but are at least ballpark believable, but there's some that seem like there could not have been a reason to do it, which makes me think some of these decisions are just plain old 'random'.

One that I can remember right now is Houston immediately sending down Valverde, who is pretty good in ability, in the "Closer" role, and hadn't had a chance to get hurt. It just seemed funny for a team to immediatley send down their shutdown closer.

I agree, some of the managing algorithms def seem flawed...

My guy on the MLB suckiest team-Pirates. I went 3-3 with a triple, a single, and a 2-run HR. Was pulled for LaRoche who grounded into the game-ending double play with tying/winning runners on 2nd/3rd. Thanks for the faith coach.

Sure it was September and we're 30 games out of a playoff spot, but there is no need to sit your hottest player.
