MaxDSterling wrote: No. Wii, DS, PS2 only I understand it's made for those consoles only. The 80gb PS3 is backwards compatible but it uses software emulation and not the PS2's hardware. Thus, it only works for about 85 to 90% of the games. There is a compatibility checker on Sony's website but it has not been updated with MLB PP's. So, I was wondering if anyone on here has a 80gb PS3 and this game. TIA |

I spoke too soon. I just used the checker and it says "No major problems for this title." ![]() |

They spent so much money to make it the most powerful and advanced system but they skimp on one of the most basic and common technologies that is present in all other systems. In fact, it was pioneered by Sony. It's a great system but that fact just bothers me. |

Any console company knows that backwards compatibility is a double-edged sword. By not making it "fully" compatible, you force PS2 users to upgrade, rather than be content with the classics. And still force PS3 users to keep the older console for the older games the don't work. Less compatibility = more purchases. The "software hack" as I'll refer to the emulator is just a workaround, and is not guaranteed to be working by Sony. They'd rather have you buy both consoles. |

I didn't think about it in a business sense. Maybe I should've taken some business classes in college. Good strategy for recouping the loses on the production of that system. I'm sure it's taking them quite a bit longer than they anticipated. |

Just to add to what Max said, the 20gb and 60gb PS3's were the first PS3 production batch from Sony and they included the PS2 hardware. If you recall, PS3's weren't selling too well in the beginning due to price and the lack of a robust software library like the XBOX 360. Couple that with the fact that adding PS2 hardware was cost inefficient for Sony in regards to production AND marketability of the still very alive PS2. Then came the 40gb and the 80gb, which gave the consumer a choice between "cheap" 40gb and feature-rich 80gb. The 80gb uses software emulation because it's cheaper to produce and forces those who want to play PS2 games spend more for a 80gb version (like me) or force them to buy a separate PS2 console. I am a victim of Business 101. The good thing about the PS3 is that it upscales the PS2 games on my HDTV. The PS2 console cannot do that and it just looks like utter trash on my plasma. |

We have a PS3 80 and we dont have any problems so far. We have been playing success and MLB life for about a month now. |
