Fine I'll give you a background for Oblong. His dad was a big-time star player, but his career was cut short by an injury sustained in a car crash. Oblong than dedicated his career to his dad and promised his dad that he would be a great player someday. BTW Jacksonivlle is a great place to live |

that numbers thing was to help pick my character but i decided to go with 6 (original character) instead Name: Matthew Swenson Position: Starting Pitcher, plays all four infield positions capably as well B/T: R/R Appearance: pale skin, short medium-brown hair, big brown eyes, freckles all over, thin eyebrows, zero facial hair Height: 6'1" Weight: 192 lbs. Abilities: (if PP) 92/162/113, 2SFB 2, SLD 1, CB 1, CHG 5, Spin 2, Recovery 4, Durability 4, Choke Artist; 2/10/87/11/7/9/12, VS Lefty 5, GD Bunt, GD Small Ball -- rarely throws either breaking ball, mostly throws fastballs and changeups (if not PP) Throws a four-seam and two-seam fastball sitting 88-90 and occasionally hitting 92, as well as a devastating changeup. Will sometimes (but rarely) mix in a slider or a curveball. Has great control and command, but struggles late in outings, battling fatigue and a strange drop in skills that seems to always happen when Swenson is in line for the win or pitching in the ninth inning. Swenson has never broken a bone in his body and is extremely durable. On offense, he is a solid contact hitter who excels against lefties. He bunts well, and has good speed to potentially beat out infield grounders/poorly fielded bunts. Swenson is a solid defender who has a bit of a weak arm, but rarely makes errors. Background: Born in St. Cloud, Minnesota on Christmas Day in 1994, Matthew Swenson has worked his entire life to get to this point, and he isn't about to stop working. Matthew was born into poverty, but the hard work of his parents and his older brother Neal, who is now 36, got him through school. Matthew is an incredibly bright young man who enjoys learning about baseball and business and is an avid reader who claims The Mental Game of Baseball and Moneyball to be among his favorite books. He attended Princeton on a full-ride (half for baseball, half for academics) and graduated in three years with a bachelor's degree in business, holding a pristine 4.1 GPA. He plans to spend the next couple offseasons working towards a master's degree in sports management, and wants to become involved in the front office after his playing career is over (but he doesn't plan on that happening anytime soon). Matthew is very friendly and a tremendous leader in the clubhouse who is looked up to by younger players and veterans alike. |

Name: Juan Carlos "Taco" Rodriguez Position: CP B/T: S/R Appearance: Mexican Light Brown skin color, short black hair, black beard (not big or long), glasses (black outside, clear lens) Height: 6'2" Weight: 185 Abilities: (If PP) 101/80/35, 1 CHG, 1 CB, 1 SLD, 2 2SFB Specials: Choke Artist, Walk, Vs Lefty 2, Dr. K Background: The team's wild, flame-throwing, yet unreliable, young (20-21 yrs old) closer. Known affectionately by the fans as "Taco" but prefers to be called Juan. He gets the nickname "Taco" from his unbelievable story of how he was found. He grew up in poverty in Venezuela, worked in family's taco business as a kid, also played a little baseball. Was found by a scout while he was looking for international players. The scout stopped by the Rodriguez family taco truck to grab a quick bite, not wanting to miss the next player showcase. While the scout ate, Juan Carlos and his older brother, Roberto, played catch. The scout could not believe what he was seeing as he watched Juan Carlos throw nothing but heat. The scout turned on his radar gun and saw speeds of 99, 100, and 101 light up the gun. He was brought to America soon after and began his rise to the Majors. He still does not speak much English and relies on the help of his team-mates to get around. |

Height: 6'8 Weight: 215 Abilities: (If PP:) 89/240/140, 6 KN, 5 CHG, 2 SLD, 3 2SFB, 1 CUT Specials: W/RISP 2 Spin 4 FB Life 2 Strng Finisher Poise 4 Durability 2 BRK Ball P Background: A journeyman reliever who now enters his 20th year of professional baseball. Originally a top prospect, washed up in the minors and lost his velocity after a Tommy John surgery failed following a bar fight in which his arm was injured badly. Many teams believed his career was over and he was released after two seasons. He took a year off contemplating his next move, and returned to baseball in the Independent League for 17 seasons, all with the Bridgeport Bluefish, building a reputation as an off speed pitcher with impeccable control. With no offers from big league teams, he considered retirement, until he heard about a new expansion team with open tryouts. He figured it was his last shot, so he gave it a shot. Scouts laughed at the results that appeared on the radar gun, but they stopped when they witnessed the best hitters swing like two year olds trying to hit McCoy's breaking balls. He won a spot on the roster and is fighting for the 5th starter battle in spring training. |

Background: He grew up in Venice and played baseball when not working at the pizzeria. He has good focus but needs to be reminded to pay attention. He was discovered by a scout when he was making delieveries and he threw the pizza box to the customers. The scout saw the way it moved decided to sign him. Abilities: (if PP) 1/13/52/5/4/5/6, Contact Hitter, Throwing 4, Slap Hitter, PR Morale (if not PP) basically just a slap hitter with no other abilities Background: Born to wealthy parents in a suburb of Miami, the 33-year-old Goodwin is making his first foray into professional baseball after teaching physics at a local community college for five years. Goodwin has a doctorate degree in physics and often uses scientific jargon to make himself sound smart. Goodwin is very focused on his ego and needs constant attention or else he will become a distraction in the clubhouse. Goodwin hates when people call him anything other than "Benjamin", "Doc", or "Dr. Goodwin", and colleagues often call him other names solely for the purpose of driving him into a rage. Goodwin was a catcher in high school, and hit .336 his senior year, but he turned down several D-II and D-III scholarship offers to study physics overseas at Oxford. |

I guess I'll make two more guys (twin brothers) Bio: Tim and Jim Johnson do everything together. The twins have been practicing together since they came out of the womb. They were taken 1 and 2 in last year's draft, but Jim was traded in the offseason to play with Tim for the Hedgehogs. Jim plays SS, Tim plays 2B. They have great chemistry together. While they look the same, they are actually completely opposite in terms of their abilities/skill set. Jim is a terrific fielder with not so great hitting, while Tim is a slugger who can't field a lick. It will be interesting to see how they play this season. He was scouted but he had bad fielding at first. Yet he want to follow his dream. So he went to the Jacksonville Hedgehogs open tryouts and made the team as the starting center fielder. |
