Anyone here on goodreads.com? I got back into reading this year and set a 20 book challenge...I'm at 26 and will probably end the year around 35. I really liked reading as a kid, sic/fi or fantasy stuff...Stephen King, JRR Tolkein, Dragonlance and David Eddings stuff. I left it alone when i was busy studying in college, or working, but I started up again on vacation in April and am happy I did. Anyway, goodreads is just a site that lets you list all the books you have read, or are reading, or are interested in reading. you can see what friends/acquantainces are reading or recommend, share reviews, and see what the community in general thinks of certain titles. Join up, if you dig reading or want to set a reading challenge for yourself in 2015. |

Dude you are reading Infinite Jest?? I've been wanting to read that, and yet afraid that I won't "get" it enough, or that it will be too tough a read to complete. the things what, 1500 pages?? My sister got pretty far I think. Is it really funny, or just like a clever/witty thing? |

Is it really funny, or just like a clever/witty thing? it's absolutely amazing, and probably the best book I've ever read. (currently on page 977, meaning I have three pages left. it's 1,079 pages including the 100 or something pages of endnotes.) it's hilarious at times but it's also hugely philosophical and incredibly disturbing at some points. it does start off pretty slow, but I found that it just got better and better as it went along. if you're looking for something plot-based look elsewhere though; it's mainly a huge, sprawling thematically heavy exploration with a shitton of character development. there are parts that are laugh-out-loud funny but it's also really clever and witty. the world it creates is mind-blowingly detailed and it must have taken absolutely forever for the thing to come to fruition. if you're up for the commitment definitely go for it though. (0: oh and if you do read it PM me about it so we can discuss because there's so much to talk about. |

hmmm, this Infinite Jest sounds like something I'd be into. I don't read a whole lot anymore, but maybe I should pick it up again. I'll take a look at this site. |
