Post subject:  Why Chat Needs to Go
When I joined this site, I was promised a lively place to talk about sports and video games. What I found was a website where nobody posts. Chat is a big reason why. Here are some reasons why it needs to go.

It Stops People From Posting
This one is obvious, instead of anyone posting in the GCT, they post in chat. I assure you that if the chat stays, the site will die by the end of this year. No posts, means no interest.

Logs Don't Get Enough Attention
I've noticed this too, logs don't get attention. When we just see the chat option in the board index, that's all we pay attention to. We don't scroll down or even care about the other categories. This makes it hard for the people who are doing the log to have interaction from the readers.

Site Goes Down
My internet is mediocre at best. It seems to go down all the time. Maybe it's because of the chat feature.

These are some reasons why chat needs to go. What do Y'ALL think?

I think chat can stay TBH. The number of posts have gone down only a bit. I think the chat is a good function, but we all need to post more IMO.

Every new user thinks that people have to post every 10 minutes.

It's the way I thought when I was new as well. But as I became a veteran of this site I realized that there's not much more to talk about in Power Pros.

I do wonder why no one posts on the season logs though. About every log I do now gets maybe 1 post not by me per page. And that is a sad amount of replies.

Lately the site hasn't gone down for me, it's been perfectly fine.

And finally, I like the chat, it's where we can talk about things that don't necessarily need to be posted in the GCT, but when I have something meaningful to talk about, I post it in the GCT.

I agree with Zero, I've stopped all of my logs because they're not generating enough interest.

Really guys?? I'm not saying that we have to post every 10 mins, but 5-6 posts a day a ridiculous!!! If it's gonna be like that, I'm DONE

Calm down dude. Zero put it as nicely as he could. This forum is 6 years old. It doesn't have a long time to live. That's what happens. What do you expect for a series with only 2 games? After a while, we ran out of things to talk about. Now, we just talk about what's going on around us. The game got old for us. We do still play it every now and then, but that's part of life. Things can't stay forever. Especially a game that's 6 years old.

Anyway, the forum is not gonna die. We still have users who are dedicated to logs such as PPFan with the Knights, PPJ with the Blue Jays, Paul with the Stranglers, and DTigers with the Gunmen. The forum will still be around until 2016 at least. I guarantee that. The only reason it would be gone by then would be because most of us will be at college by then.

Not me!

So yeah, we also still have users making players such as aaronator, Baseballteen, DTigers, dish, and I.

I would like the chat to be removed from the board index and front page (keep it on its own page using the chat button at the top). That won't affect log activity, but it would look nice cosmetically.

I'm also curious as to how a lack of posts in the GCT means the site is gonna die. If people post in the chat, then the site is obviously still active. The chat is just a modified version of the GCT. If anything, this is creating more discussion, since the responses are instantaneous.

That would be nice if this forum lasted 10 years, especially because at that time MLBPP would be eight years old. But I do think we have changed a lot in the past year.

Sorry for the double, but exactly Skittle. People have to realize that chat/GCT are practically the same thing, but the chat is way more convenient. People are getting way too worked up over this.

It seems like someone is always claiming that the site is dying and it won't last. :lol: We're tough. I'd imagine that anyone who hasn't left by now probably will stick around for a while. We ain't goin' nowhere. :razz:

And like other people said, the chat is the same as the GCT, except it's better. You can still read everything that has been posted, except it's faster and easier to chat with eachother.

I can't speak for everyone here because everyone is different, but I follow all the logs. Just because you don't get replies doesn't mean the log isn't being followed! It's been like that forever, it's just that back in the day there were more people to reply, and the lack of comments in logs was harder to notice. But really, what're you supposed to do? Say, "Close game!" After every game in a log? There's not much you can do unless something pops into your head.

You may call 5-6 posts per day ridiculous, but with the chat instead of GCT(which was literally the thread FOR chat), there really isn't much to talk about! Come up with topics to get people to post if you wish, but if you want to fix a problem, you have to be a part of the solution.

Anyways, the GCT was arguably worse for the forum since it prevented people from making new threads because anything you wanted to say that wasn't Power Pros-related would have just gone in there. I feel like we could have had some nice off-topic discussion about various topics, similar to how the "How is school?" thread worked, but that's just my opinion.

The only thing the GCT has over the chat is that it increases your post count. I'm honestly glad it's dying.

You have a good point about logs, though some of them do alright in terms of replies.
