POTD #100 | Have you ever made a promise to yourself?

Post subject:  POTD #100 | Have you ever made a promise to yourself?
(I know it's early, but does it really matter?)

Today's poll (#100!) focuses on the topic of promising things to yourself. I chose this topic because I'm struggling to keep a self-promise myself. It is the promise I made to myself not to cuss until I was 18. In this day and age, it seems like that is a much harder thing to refrain from and studies have shown that even 2-year-olds cuss. So I have 2 questions:

1) Have you ever made a promise to yourself? What was it, did you keep it, and do you remember when you made it?
2) What do you think of my self-promise? Should I start cussing sooner or wait?

1. No, not that I remember
2. What does it matter? They're just words. As long as you don't use them in inappropriate times, then who the *(censored)* hell cares? ( :P)

WORDS WILL NEVER HURT ME. They're just words... there's really nothing that bad about them, besides other people think that its rude.

I don't think I make promises with myself, at least none that I remember.

I've made a promise to myself about several things

1) I won't be an alcoholic
2) I won't do drugs

I can't remember the other things right now but Im sure I will

Same as Zero here, except also

3) I won't smoke
4) To be responsible and make the right decisions

and more than I can't think of at the moment.

@Agent: If you've made a promise to yourself I don't see a reason not to keep it. Like everyone is saying, they're just words, but there isn't anything special about them. You aren't missing out on anything, you won't be cooler or more grown up because you swear. If it's peer pressure that's making you reconsider, then don't do it.

Not other than the drinking, smoking, etc. promises.

And I know I (and others) have told you this before, but cuss if you *(censored)* want to. If you don't think it's worth it, just don't. After all, it's your own *(censored)* decision.

Yeah, you *(censored)* tell him! It's a *(censored)* decision that doesn't really *(censored)* matter! (Of course, if you *(censored)* curse like this all the *(censored)* time, you might have some *(censored)* problems. But this is just to make a *(censored)* point because we *(censored)* want.)

Sometimes situations call for more powerful language in order to better communicate your true feelings. After all, isn't communication just the transfer of ideas from one person to another? Swear words tend to evoke emotions in the reader/listener (if they're not overused, that is).

For example, if I break my arm and say, "Well shucks," then I don't think my friends are going to be too concerned; however, if I break my arm and scream the more appropriate response of "*(censored)*! *(censored)* *(censored)* *(censored)*! *(censored)* THAT HURTS *(censored)* GET SOMEONE!" I'm more likely to get help.

Just the opinion of someone who was against swearing until a couple years ago.

Yeah, I agree with dtigers.

Swear if you have to, but don't do it in excess. Because then you just look like a douche.

Yeah, don't just casually swear. Don't just be like "Hey man, did you see that hit yesterday! That was the *(censored)* awesomest hit I've ever *(censored)* hit!"
