(I know I originally said this would be three days, but I have more poll ideas, so yeah...)
Looking at the console release dates, it shows that consoles typically have 4-6 of life.

PlayStation (1995) ---> PlayStation 2 (2000) ---> PlayStation 3 (2006)

Nintendo 64 (1996) ---> GameCube (2001) ---> Wii (2006)

XBOX (2001) ---> XBOX 360 (2005)

Obviously, Nintendo has already released their latest console after the 6 year wait, with the Wii U last week. While it's only a matter of time for Sony and Microsoft, it remains to be seen how long they'll wait, seeing as the Wii U is just now on the same stage as the PS3 and 360 in terms of graphics and power.

Sony has constantly released their products every 6 years (as the PS1 was released in Japan in '94. It didn't came to the states until about 10 months later). Following that trend, the PS4 (should it be called that) would have been released around this time. But as we know, it hasn't, nor has their been any official news about it. The fact that Sony hasn't even revealed it or even mentioned it all all leaves me to believe it'll be released in 2014. If they show it off at E3 next year, I don't think they'd put in on the shelves within 4-6 months. If they don't show it at E3 next year (which is very unlikely), I would expect it to be pushed off even later. For me, the later it's released, the better. If the PS4 is released two years from now, that would give the PS3 just enough life to last through my High School years. Websites keep looking towards a holiday 2013 release, but I don't know how that's possible.

As for Microsoft and XBOX, they had the shortest time between consoles, and also have the oldest one. The time between the XBOX and the XBOX 360 was just four years! And yet, we're on 7 and counting for the XBOX 720 (should it be called that). Like the PS4, there has been no announcements or anything about it, and I feel it's in the same boat. If the 720 is shown off at E3 this year, I also expect it to go on sale in 2014, which would have it compete with Sony.

So this topic is for predictions on release dates, along with any general discussion on the new consoles.

I think the XBOX 720 will be released next fall, and the PS4 will be released in early 2014. I know you didn't ask, but I think the next Sony handheld will be released in 2014 as well.

I didn't ask because A. I didn't really think of them, and B. They both came out so recently. The Vita came out back in February. It would seem weird to move on after just 2 years

I don't think there will be new Sony and Microsoft products. There isn't much they can improve on now.

You don't think there'll ever be a PS4 or 720? Hmm...

Maybe sometime down the line. But not for a while.

Check for yourselves. Really, I'm not sure.

Both Microsoft and Sony have said they both intend for their current consoles to last much longer than the previous generation. I think the new ones will come out around 2015 or even 2016.

EDIT: Anthony's link does bring up a few points, but even the article itself doesn't definitively declare (Alliteration!) the release date. It's all rumors so far.

I just don't see how either extreme is logical. If the PS4 is revealed at E3 in June, and released that November, how do they market enough? But more importantly, how do you people save up? Giving just a 4 or 5 month warning is not enough for a $500 or so product.

On the other hand, if it comes out in 2016 (or even later) the Wii U will have a four year advantage in sales, which is unthinkable in any console wars

I think the PS4'll come out in 2014 and the 720 will too.
