Post subject:  MLB Free Agent Pick 'Em ~ 2012-2013 Offseason

You're all familiar with the format of the NFL Picks Thread. This is very similar to that.

Basically, you select where the top 50 free agents (gathered from this list) will go in the offseason. Best of all, you only need to pick once (unless you want to change your picks, the rules will be below), then let the offseason play out for itself! I would also like the thread to be used to discuss the offseason in general, so feel free to talk!

If you want to change your picks in case of something like, say, a key injury (Victor Martinez anyone?) or trade, here are the 2 stipulations:

1. You must do it before the free agent has signed.
2. You must announce it in the thread.

Also, if you make your picks after a free agent has signed, you automatically forfeit that pick.

The person who picks the most correct destinations wins. Ties will be decided by totaling the ranking number of each correctly-guessed free agent and taking the lowest total, rewarding contestants for being right on better free agents.

Any questions?

P.S. You can also choose if you think the player will return to Japan (in the case of Fujikawa), or retire.

Post subject:  Re: MLB Free Agent Pick 'Em ~ 2012-2013 Offseason

This isn't a complete list, and I'm not completely sure really on any of these picks, but I'll do some for now:

1. Zack Greinke - Angels (Dodgers would be an option here but they're looking at James Shields. After sending off Haren/Santana it'd probably benefit them to keep the big 3 - Weaver/CJ/Greinke - together. Texas is apparently in on him too so it'll be a bidding war.)
2. Josh Hamilton - Rangers (Don't see a lot of takers on Josh and his $100+ million contract and his problems, except maybe the Phillies. They have a lot of other needs to address besides him so I think the Rangers lock him back up.)
3. Michael Bourn - Nationals (Nats are teh top contender for him early on and getting him would open up a move back to 1B for Mike Morse. Plus Boras knows the Nats well.)
4. Anibal Sanchez - Tigers? (He'll have multiple teams going after
5. B.J. Upton - Phillies? (Of course there's risks here with his attitude and penchant for the strikeout, but Phillies need a CF and he's among the top options, also he wouldn't come at an astronomical price tag like Hamilton might. Plus, good point by MLBTR in their FA predictions: Steve Henderson - the current Phillies hitting coach - was coaching Upton back in 2007 when he had a good year.)
6. Nick Swisher -
7. Edwin Jackson -
8. Dan Haren - Red Sox (Now that he's a FA, I think Boston will hop on him to bolster their pitching staff, which needs some help. And a consistent workhorse like Haren would definitely help them. Also, we know they'll have the $$ to get him.)
9. Hiroki Kuroda - Yankees (It seems likely he'll accept a 1-year deal before heading back to Japan and he had some success with NYY so why not re-sign there. There's a chance he just accepts their $13.3 mil qualifying offer instead. I think he'll have plenty of suitors though.)
10. Kyle Lohse - Dodgers (If they don't get Greinke, Lohse is probably one of the Dodgers' top secondary options and they definitely have the money to get him.)
11. Angel Pagan -
12. Shane Victorino -
13. David Ortiz - Red Sox (He's been a focal point of their offense since he's got there and all reports say he's close to getting locked up pretty soon.)
14. Mike Napoli -
15. Adam LaRoche -
16. Ryan Dempster -
17. Rafael Soriano - Tigers/Yankees? (Tigers will be searching for back-end options to replace Valverde - well not this season's stats anyway - and Rafael's one of the best. But if the Yankees want him they certainly have the money to get him back.
18. Melky Cabrera -
19. Shaun Marcum - Royals/Cubs? (Royals are looking for pitching, but not at a top-tier level/salary, so Marcum fits as a good veteran leader. Somebody like the Cubs might be an option too.)
20. Torii Hunter - Yankees (Torii would be a nice replacement for Swisher should he not come back and we know they can afford his salary.)
21. Russell Martin -
22. Cody Ross - Red Sox (I'm sure the Sox would love to keep him after a good season and apparently he's a good clubhouse guy too. They've already had talks about extensions so I think they'll get a deal done.)
23. Marco Scutaro -
24. Stephen Drew -
25. Joe Saunders -
26. Ryan Ludwick -
27. Kevin Youkilis -
28. Francisco Liriano -
29. Carlos Villanueva -
30. A.J. Pierzynski -
31. Joe Blanton -
32. Brandon McCarthy -
33. Jason Grilli -
34. Kyuji Fujikawa - Angels/Dodgers?
35. Koji Uehara -
36. Ryan Madson -
37. Joakim Soria -
38. Joel Peralta -
39. Mariano Rivera - Yankees (It's well known it's Yankees or retirement for Mo, but I have a feeling he'll want to go out on a good note rather than after suffering an injury. Where better than the team he's been with this whole time.)
40. Ichiro Suzuki -
41. Jeff Keppinger -
42. Mike Adams - Phillies (Phillies need a veteran presence at the back-end of the 'pen to go along with the youngsters and Adams has proved to be a solid SU man in recent history. Tigers could be an option here also.)
43. Andy Pettitte -
44. Jose Valverde -
45. Jonathan Broxton -
46. Scott Baker - Twins
47. Sean Burnett -
48. Jeremy Guthrie -
49. Eric Chavez - Phillies
50. Jeremy Affeldt - Giants

The rest will be edited in later.

35. Koji Uehara -

37. Joakim Soria -
38. Joel Peralta -
39. Mariano Rivera - Yankees or retire (He wouldn't leave the Yankees, and he is frickin' old)
40. Ichiro Suzuki - Mariners (Just like Greinke the Mariners don't have any big-name hitter, I would like to see him go back)
41. Jeff Keppinger -
42. Mike Adams -
43. Andy Pettitte -
44. Jose Valverde -
45. Jonathan Broxton - Stay with the Reds
46. Scott Baker -
47. Sean Burnett -
48. Jeremy Guthrie -
49. Eric Chavez -
50. Jeremy Affeldt -

I will get more later, and Ryan Madson isn't a free agent I don't think, but he will be traded because we have Chapman and Broxton

If Madson is on the list, then he is a FA. He was only signed to a 1-year contract last winter.
