June 11, 2011 Today is draft day. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I know that I will probably be picked -- well, I don't want to get cocky, but we all know it might happen -- but I wonder what team I'll end up on. The first round went by without a whisper. I didn't hear my name mentioned, less so called. However, the second round was where this all changed. "The Seattle Mariners will now present their second round pick." I heard the PA announcer say. "We will select Rob Whipple, UCLA, 20 years old," the coach said. I was dumbfounded at what I had just heard. Did they really say my name, or am I just imagining things? My little brother of 17 years patted me on the back and prompted me to stand up. I thought it must be real if he was telling me to stand up. I stood up and raised my hand to the cheering crowd. I walked up to the podium and was given a Tacoma Rainiers jersey. I went home, and I got no sleep that night. SO yeah, this is a RttS log. I'm playing MLB 12: The Show and I'm in the Mariners organization and yeah. Starting off in AA, of course. I'll be doing week-by-week updates like dtigers does. |

BrewersFuzz wrote: YES!! I love these RttS logs!! ![]() But the Mariners?? Ew... ![]() I think there's one option to pick teams and another one to be drafted by a random one. I'm assuming he did the draft. Of course, even when you pick a team that doesn't mean you aren't going to be traded 10 times before you reach the MLB. |

Yeah, I've heard from my friend that trades are common in this mode. |

What makes RTTS so great? |

I did the draft option, yeah. SkittleMonster wrote: What makes RTTS so great? It's realistic, and fun. -- April 5-April 8, 2012 I looked at the lineup card. I saw my name: Rob Whipple, batting seventh, playing third base. I was shocked that I would be in the starting lineup already. Time to perform. My professional career had a bad start. In the bottom of the third, with the game tied 0-0, and runners on second and third, a grounder was hit to me. But, it ate me up. It bounced off my glove. I tried to recover, and I tried to get the out at first but the throw was too late. Hopefully this isn’t a sign of things to come. Unfortunately, in the bottom of the third, I couldn’t redeem myself. I struck out looking on a bullshit call. But all you can do is bounce back, right? Only way is up from here. I grounded out twice after that, but in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, I managed to get my first hit of my major league campaign with a grounder up the right field line for a single. Unfortunately we lost the first game of the season 7-2 to the Birmingham Barons. The next game I did a lot better. I went 3-4, including a 2 RBI single off the wall in the bottom of the eighth as we won 5-2 to get our first win of the season. They surprisingly moved me up to the cleanup spot for the third game in the five game series against the Barons. The cleanup spot proved to be pretty good for me, with the game tied at 5 in the bottom of the third, I whacked a 2-run single to put us in the lead 7-5. The game ended up winning the slug-fest 18-7, and I ended up going 3-6 with 2 RBI’s and a strikeout that day. My teammate Irving Cisneros took me out to a Mexican restaurant after the game, where I had a delicious quesadilla. I was back in the seven spot for Sunday, the fourth game in the series. I had a horrid game, though, going 0-3 with 3 K’s in the 4-1 win. But, in my defense, our team did only have total of 4 hits, so that doesn’t make it too bad! After the game, my mother called and gave me updates about life, and my cat, and my hometown and everything. He said my dad was ecstatic that I was playing and was hoping to go to one of my games one time. It was easy for them to come because they lived in Seattle and Jackson is only about a 40 minute drive from their home. Week stats: 7-17, .412 AVG, 0 HR, 4 RBI, 5 K, 0 BB, 1 E Season stats: .412 AVG, 0 HR, 4 RBI, 5 K, 0 BB, 1 E |

April 9-15, 2012 Today was the last game in the series against the Barons. We had already won the series, at this point we were just looking for more wins. I ended up sitting out but we won 4-3 anyway. On Tuesday, we started a five-game series against the Tennessee Smokies. For the first game of the series I was back in the cleanup spot. We ended up losing on a walk-off single, but I ended up going 0-4 with a strike out. Apparently the day off didn’t help so much… I was put back down to the seven spot for Wednesday’s game. Unfortunately it didn’t do me much better, because I went 0-3 with 2 K’s in another walk-off loss, this time 2-1. After the game I was really frustrated and accidentally broke one of my bats by smashing it into my driveway when I got home… On Thursday I remained in the seventh spot in the lineup; I’m hoping I can rekindle some spark, or at least not lose the series against the Smokies. I went 0-3 for my first three at-bats, but managed to finally break my 0-14 slump with a ground ball single through the shortstop/third base gap. Unfortunately we ended up losing the game 8-2, and in turn losing the series. On Friday I sat out, but we ended up losing 4-2 anyway. Coach said I needed a day off to try to find my swing again. On Saturday I was starting again, but this time in the sixth spot in the lineup. I ended up doing alright, going 1-3 with 2 walks (!!!). I had a big opportunity, with runners on second and third and no outs, but ended up just getting walked. The team did win 7-3 today though, and avoided getting swept in a 5-game series. On Sunday, we started another 5-game series, this time with the Mississippi Braves. I was back in the clean-up spot, and for our home opener no less. I got on top of one ball in the sixth, and I thought it was gone, but it was a fly out to the track in the deepest part of the park. However, I did get an RBI fielder’s choice in the fourth, to move my RBI total up to 5 on the year. I ended up going 0-4 in the series opener, which we lost 8-2. After the game, my mom sent me a “care package” with some cookies. I know what I’ll be eating tonight! Week stats: 2-18 (.111 AVG), 0 HR, 1 RBI, 8 K, 2 BB Total stats: .257, 9 H, 0 2B, 0 3B, 5 RBI, 2 BB, 13 K |

What does that have to do with italics? |
