Mystery: It's your last game here Nicholas. You gotta make this one count. Nicholas: I'll do my best coach. Nicholas Cruz was entering his last game at George Washington High School in San Francisco. This wasn't an ordinary game where they were playing a friendly game from a team across the way. This game was to determine the Bay Area High School Championship. Not only that, but they were playing Oakland High School. A whole new definition was going to be brought to the Bay Bridge Series. Just a little less on the line... Mystery: Hey Nicky you wanna throw? Nicholas: Yeah sure Javier. Javier was Nicholas' best friend, baseball and real life. He was in the same grade as Nicholas. They on the JV baseball team as Freshman and grew an immediate friendship, Javier being the loud one and Nicholas being the one listening. Nicholas: Hey I'm going to stretch first. Javier: I will too. So our last game here man. We gotta go all out. I hear that I'm starting today. Nicholas: That's good man. You've been rollin' in these playoffs. What are you like 7-0 with a negative 5 ERA? Javier: Funny man. I have been doing good as of late. It this is true, I'm pretty nervous. I gotta have everything working today. These Oakland guys can pound the baseball and with our baseball field there's gonna be a couple hit today. Nicholas: You're gonna do good man. You just gotta have confidence; something I've been lacking. With runners on base, I've been doing terrible. I don't think I've had a hit with the bases juiced this whole year. I'm just not feeling it today man. I don't know. Should I just sit out today? Javier: I wouldn't sit out, but do what you think is best for the team. You're a natural fielder, but we can't have you making errors physically and mentally. DECISION TIME: Do you: A) Choose to start B) Start on bench |
