I literally cannot think of a currently active member who hasn't at least tried doing one of these. So I guess I might as well... The twist? It's going to be related to Hockey instead of Baseball, we all know there isn't enough Hockey on this Baseball forum, right? ![]() I would prefer somebody with at least a basic understanding of hockey terminology, but there may not be a whole lot of choice here. If there's some terminology or something you don't understand, either look it up or PM me, rather than asking on the topic itself, to keep things a bit neater. Also, if an option is left for the person playing this, and they don't respond within a week, I'll probably let whoever wants to continue where he left off, unless otherwise arranged (like if you tell me beforehand you're going on vacation for a month and somehow won't have Internet access. I'll leave a form to fill out to enter, because of this, you may want to first make a post saying "reserved" or something, then edit in the form filled later to be first, if more than one person is interested. Name: Age (this will probably be a major factor in this): Position (pick one of the following): Center: Primarily plays in the middle of the ice, the most defensively oriented forward position. Left Wing: Primarily plays on the left side of the ice. Forward position. Right Wing: Primarily plays on the right side of the ice. Forward position. Defenseman: Typically focuses more on keeping the puck out of his teams net than scoring, but defensemen can get involved in offense as well. You can choose left or right defenseman if you want, or just pick defenseman and you'll be put where needed. Goalie: Focuses entirely on keeping the puck out of his net, goalies scoring is incredibly rare, just focus on making saves. Player Type (pick one of the following): Forwards: Sniper: Great shot, doesn't necessarily need to be in a great scoring position to score because of this. Playmaker: Good handling, balance and passing. Tries to open up plays. Can get good assist numbers, but they can also score when they get a good chance. Grinder: Known for hard work and checking. Enforcer: Gets into fights and protects teammates at all costs. Power Forward: Capable of physical play and scoring. Two-Way Forward: Plays well on offense and defense. Defensemen: Defensive Defenseman: Focuses solely on defense, rarely gets involved in scoring chances. Offensive Defenseman: Focuses mainly on defense, but gets involved in scoring chances when possible. Two-Way Defenseman: Focuses on defense, sometimes gets involved in scoring chances. Enforcer: Gets into fights and protects teammates at all costs. Goalie: Hybrid: A mix of stand-up and butterfly types (which I don't feel like including because I don't see it making much of a difference. Size (pick one of the following): Laughably small: Ridiculously small, your teammates and opponents alike will make fun of your tiny stature relentlessly. Smaller than average: Not too small, but you're definitely one of the smaller players. Average: You don't stand out one way or the other. Bigger than average: You've definitely got a large enough build to play a tough game. Freakishly huge: Your sheer size alone intimidates people, this may seem like an advantage, if only your own teammates weren't intimidated by you as well. Favorite NHL Team (not mandatory, may be used in story): Favorite Hockey Player (not mandatory, may be used in story): Handedness: Country of Origin: Just by how long it took to think and type all that, I'm now worried it'll be too much work for anyone to take the time to bother to even join this thing. |

Forgot about a couple things like handedness and country of origin. They aren't immediately important and I could give some updates without them, but I don't have time to write up updates at the moment, you can edit those into your post whenever you get the chance. |

If I could go back I would probably change my mind about this and wait until summer to start this topic, my time is pretty much being divided between actual important stuff and the Russia log (putting more time into that just because it's simple and doesn't take a lot of time to do an update, there's no actual creative thought required). I do have a 4 day weekend starting on Friday though, so I'm hoping I'll be able to at least manage the first update then, maybe another one as well, depending on how badly I put off writing a 4 page essay for class... |

After getting drafted in the late rounds by the Edmonton Oilers, I was still stuck playing in the CHL for a few more years, not that I really minded it; I could use the experience, and being a #1 goalie was a great way to get some. Now, however, at 21, I’m too old to play in the CHL, so I’ve been moved to the Oiler’s AHL affiliate, the Oklahoma City Barons, and, the part that really bugs me, I have to play a backup role here to some other goalie that’s supposed to be better than me. It may be annoying to have to play a backup role, but I still remind myself to be optimistic, as I head to my first practice with the team, surely I won’t be stuck in that role forever, I just have to play as well as I know I can, then I’ll earn a starting role sooner or later. I’m not even sure whether to consider moving from the CHL to the AHL as a promotion or not, the CHL may actually be more popular, there are just a lot more great prospects that play there compared to the AHL, where it’s mostly older players who simply don’t have enough talent to be in the NHL. Well, it’s no use worrying about it, I’m here whether it’s a good thing or not. I arrive at the stadium already fully equipped for the practice, pretty much everyone is already at the rink when I get there, even though I arrived 20 minutes before the scheduled practice time, it seems as if everyone else was more eager than that. You skate around the rink almost unnoticed. “Real friendly welcome here…” You mutter under your breath, still looking for the other goalie. It takes you some time to find him doing skating drills around the rink, and no wonder it took you a while, he’s absolutely tiny. How could someone like that possibly play goalie? I doubt he could reach all of the areas of the net when trying to make a save; wouldn’t he be at a huge disadvantage? As I wonder this, he looks up and sees me as he skates, he abruptly stops the drill he was doing and skates over to talk to me. I find it a bit absurd that he’s my superior as I tilt my head way down to look at him. “Hi, my name’s William Keeney, you must be my newest backup… Grilli, right?” He asks. “Yeah, J.P. Grilli.” You answer him. “We’ve still got some time before practice officially starts and we have to listen to the coach, what kind of practice do you want to get in before that?” He asks you. A. “Pick teams and do a shootout” B. “Have the shooters practice their shooting on us at both ends” C. “Do skating drills, there are some situations in which goalies have to skate” D. “I’ll just sit on the bench until practice starts” E. “Actually, I’m not really feeling too well today, I’m just going to head home” |
