Arsenal has only been under new manager Benny Leo for a week now, and already, the club has been shaken up. Wojciech Szczęsny, the club's goalie for at least the next 10 years, has been transferred in favor of prospect Hugo Lloris. Going into the first friendly of the season, Leo has opted for a new formation (4-3-1-2) and a new strategy. Time will tell if this change will bring the Gunners some gold.

ROSTER

For those of you who don't understand soccer, I'm using the 4-3-1-2 formation, which is not what most teams use. For your convenience, I have grouped my roster into general categories. The number in parentheses is the number of this position I need on the field at once. The players in each list are listed from best to worst.

GK (1) --H. Lloris, Ł. Fabiańsky, Almunia, V. Mannone
RB (1) -- B. Sagna, C. Jenkinson, G. Hoyte
CB (2) -- T. Vermaelen, P. Mertesacker, L. Koscielny, S. Squillaci, I. Miquel
LB (1) -- André Santos, K. Gibbs
DM (3) -- A. Song, J. Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, Y. Benayoun, T. Rosickẏ, A. Ramsey, A. Diaby, E. Frimpong, A. Oxdale-Chamberlain, O. Özyakup
AM/ST (3) -- R. van Persie, Gervinho, T. Walcott, A. Arshavin, M. Chamakh, C. Park, R. Miyachi, B. Afobe

I like soccer in Phys. Ed., and I understand offsides and stuff, and I watch it on TV, but I still get a little confused sometimes. I DEFINITELY don't know the positions.

Boo Arsenal, go Liverpool! *shot*

I may follow this anyways, though. Keep going...

Alright, here's my position summary:

GK=Goalkeeper, the guy who stands in front of the net. My starter is H. Lloris.
FB=Fullback, the guys who are the last line of defense between the goalie and the offense. My defensive setup, or formation, calls for four FB's: a right back (B. Sagna), two center backs (T. Vermaelen and P. Mertesacker), and one left back (André Santos or K. Gibbs, whoever is fresh)
DM=Defending Midfielder, the guys who play near the middle of the field. I need three of these guys. I usually use A. Song, J. Wilshere, and Mikel Arteta.
AM=Attacking Midfielder, the guy who gets the ball from the DM to the ST. Many formations call for two AM's, but mine requires only one, in this case T. Walcott.
ST=Striker, the guys who play right up front and get the most goals. Almost every major formation requires one striker, but I prefer to run a two-striker formation, sacrificing midfield ability for offensive power. My strikers are R. van Persie and Gervinho.

These are just the positions that I use when I play. Different formations can call for the players to play different roles, such as Winger or Center Forward, but often, the same 11 guys play all different formations, switching around when needed.

I prefer midfielder in Phys. Ed. Don't know why. I usually end up playing midfielder, and then running back to be a striker too. Its the most fun to me.

Are friendlies like the preseason?

Yes, friendlies = exhibition matches, basically.

Draws Aren't Always Bad--Arsenal, Newcastle Miss Pivotal Opportunities, Draw at 2

NEWCASTLE, ENGLAND--As Martin Tyler would say, this game was a cracker. Both Arsenal and Newcastle were itching to get a final blow near the end of the game, but it never came, leaving the Newcastle faithful nervous--and excited--of things to come. D. Ba scored both Newcastle goals, but his wild shooting led R. van Persie to be named Man of the Match. van Persie was a perfect 5 for 5 in making his shots on target. He scored one goal, and assisted Gervinho to get the other.

FT: 2-2

 How was van Persie 5-5 on shots? Does that mean passes, and shots at the goal?

Is Newcastle good? Is Arsenal good?

PPFan. This.

I am asking if shots count passes too, along with attempts on the goal. Pretty much the definition of a shot in soccer.

Newcastle is a little better than middle-of-the-road. Arsenal is a little bit better than Newcastle.\

Nope, just shots on goal. Passing has its own statistic.

How was he 5-5, if he only had 1 goal? Does that mean it would've been a goal if the goalie didn't block it?

Sorry for all the confusion. :)
