After a very rocky offseason in which they failed to sign Cliff Lee, the New York Yankees are in a New York State of Mind heading into the season. But will the sub-par rotation be the demise of the Bombers? Or will the Evil Empire strike for the 28th time in baseball history?

Rosters are current as of spring training, and they will be posted tomorrow (EDIT: earlier today, because it's past midnight. D'oh!).

No agents. Way too confusing.

OPENING DAY 2011
March 31, 2011

HI, WE'RE OPEN: Great Opener As CC, Yanks Top Tigers

NEW YORK--Today's game was a textbook Yankees win, without question. CC Sabathia threw 6 1/3 innings of 2-run ball, Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano hit back-to-back solo jacks in the sixth, and of course, Mariano Rivera recorded the third Opening Day save of his illustrious career in a 5-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers. The first 3 innings saw Ryan Raburn hit a home run and the Tigers grinding CC, but the Big Fella recovered to throw 126 pitches and 7 strikeouts in his outing. Joba Chamberlain took the ball from CC in the seventh and pitched through the eighth, allowing only one hit. Mark Teixeira hit the first home run by a Yankee this season in the fourth, and Brett Gardner swiped second in the first inning. He went 3 for 4 today. Detroit ace Justin Verlander took the loss in today's game, pitching six innings and allowing 4 runs to score while striking out eight Bombers.

I saw one in MLBPP before. I picked the Yanks because they are a solid team with a glaring weakness (rotation). And because they're awesome.

And, for the record, if I wanted to pick a super-team in MLBPP, I would have picked the Red Sox.

By the way, these are the OSFM spring training rosters, if I haven't mentioned that.

OSFM is a popular roster on The ShowNation forums. It has most minor leaguers as of the start of the start of the season.

And boo you.

BETTER THAN ONE: Not Two, but Three Home Runs VS Burnett, Gardner Injured

NEW YORK--AJ Burnett gave up six runs in 7 1/3 innings, and the Twins hit 3 home runs in a 6-2 Yankees loss. Denard Span hit a leadoff home run in the first inning, and hit a two-run shot in the fifth. In the seventh, Tolbert hit a home run to shut the door for the Twins. In the sixth inning, after Gardner stole his second base of the game, he was injured and was replaced with Eduardo Nunez. In other injury news, Carl Pavano left the game in the fifth inning and did not get the win, which was given to his replacement, Kevin Slowey. Also in the game, Melky Mesa recorded the first hit and stolen base of his major league career. The Yankees leave New York 3-4 on the homestand and 1-3 against the Twins. The Yankees will arrive in Boston tonight for tomorrow's series opener.

GLUE FACTORY: Gardner Breaks Foot

Speedy outfielder Brett Gardner broke his foot after stealing his second base of the game today. He will miss at least two months. Greg Golson has been called up to fill the spot, and rookie Melky Mesa will play left field while Gardner recovers.

LIVIN' ON THE EDGE: Millwood Barely Escapes Seesaw Battle With Win

BOSTON--The Yankees finished off a sweep of the Boston Red Sox today, but the win didn't come easy. The Yankees were down 3-2 after one inning, but scored three runs in the third. The Red Sox would come back and tie the game the next inning, and the game remained tied until the eventual winning run was scored in the seventh inning to put the game at 6-5. Kevin Millwood, who won this game, pitched six innings and allowed all of the Red Sox' 5 runs and 10 hits. According to manager Joe Girardi, he was to pitch the seventh inning, until the Yankees scored the winning run. Damaso Marte pitched two innings and Mariano Rivera recorded his fifth save of the season. After an off day, the Yankees will begin a six game homestand against Baltimore and Texas.
