I had said I would do a Backyard Baseball log, and here it is. Unfortunately, I can't do videos as I had originally planned, but I will make an attempt to make this log different from redsfan's (not that it isn't good, I just like being different). Anyways, here is the start of the story:

The Backyard Baseball League was posting applications for the upcoming 1997 season, which happened to be their inaugural season (yes, the series is THAT old ) and a 30-year-old baseball fanatic and former college star, as well as respected member of the neighborhood where many of the Backyard Baseball players lived known as Preston Greene decided to get back on the field as the coach of a team he decided to call the Mighty Hornets. Greene and all of the other coaches gathered at the local pizza place to draft the players for their team. Greene got the first pick. Who would he choose? We'll have to find out a bit later, as the draft is being covered by BBTN, or Backyard Baseball Tonight. We will look to them to provide draft analysis for the Hornets, and how the Hornets will finish in the first season of the BBL.

DRAFT RESULTS COMING UP SHORTLY

In the meantime, tell me what you think about the log so far. Any feedback is good feedback. ;)

BACKYARD LEAGUE DRAFT

LONG POST ALERT! :P

Here is the draft, as covered by BBTN:

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
Good Mornin', this is Abner Dubbleplay, the lead anchor of BBTN, and I, along with one the two Backyard League announcers, Vinny the Gooch, will be covering the Backyard League Draft, as covered to you by Humongous Entertainment. We will be giving our own analysis of the draft. We will also be interviewing Coach Preston Greene of the Mighty Hornets after the draft, to talk about his team and the league in general. We take you now to the Commissioner of the BBL, as he announces the Hornets' first pick.

BBL Commissioner wrote:
"WITH THEIR FIRST PICK, THE MIGHTY HORNETS SELECT PABLO SANCHEZ.

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
No surprise there. Vinny, what's your opinion on this pick?

Vinny wrote:
Easy as pie, AD. Next?

BBL Commissioner wrote:
WITH THEIR SECOND PICK, THE MIGHTY HORNETS SELECT ACHMED KHAN.

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
Hmm... While he is a great hitter, he IS lacking in the other areas. You think he deserved to be picked so high, Vinny?

Vinny wrote:
Of course. Listen, all I can say is this: CHICKS DIG THE LONGBALL. Achmed has it covered. Capice? Alrighty, on to the next pick, Mr. Commish!

BBL Commissioner wrote:
WITH THEIR THIRD PICK, THE MIGHTY HORNETS SELECT KEISHA PHILLIPS.

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
Definitely the best girl in all of BBL. Should have been picked 2nd in my opinion, but the Hornets got her anyways. What do you think, Vinny?

Vinny wrote:
Gotta love Keisha. No other girl is like her.

BBL Commissioner wrote:
WITH THEIR FOURTH PICK, THE MIGHTY HORNETS SELECT AMIR KHAN.

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
I get the reasoning behind this, you can't have one without the other. Your thoughts, Vinny?

Vinny wrote:
Bros gotta stick together, Abner. Good pick.

BBL Commissioner wrote:
WITH THEIR FIFTH PICK, THE MIGHTY HORNETS SELECT DANTE ROBINSON.

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
I like this. The Hornets needed a speedster, so they got one in Robinson. Not to mention that he IS Greene's nephew.

Vinny wrote:
All these relatives on the Hornets... Makes ya wonder if Mr. Greeny will pick the Webber twins...

BBL Commissioner wrote:
WITH THEIR SIXTH PICK, THE MIGHTY HORNETS SELECT KENNY KAWAGUCHI.

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
One of the best pitchers on the BBL, despite being in a wheelchair. Once again, Greene goes out and gets what he needs.

Vinny wrote:
Hey, if he can pitch so well in a wheelchair, you think I could be a great hitter while in crutches?

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
Ahhhh... no. Back on topic, we're near the end of the draft. Let's go to the Commish to see the Hornets' seventh pick.

BBL Commissioner wrote:
WITH THEIR SEVENTH PICK, THE MIGHTY HORNETS SELECT MIKEY THOMAS.

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
Despite being a slow disease-infested weirdo, the kid can crush the ball. I like it.

Vinny wrote:
I'm fine with this pick as long as the kid doesn't get all his teammates sick. We're on to #8 now!

BBL Commissioner wrote:
WITH THEIR EIGHTH PICK, THE MIGHTY HORNETS SELECT ASHLEY WEBBER..

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
I think we all know who the Hornets are gonna pick next with their last pick.

Vinny wrote:
Hey, I was right about them picking the Webber twins last! But hey, no surprise that I'm right.

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
OK, Vinny. Whatever you say. (rolls eyes)

BBL Commissioner wrote:
WITH THEIR NINTH AND FINAL PICK, THE MIGHTY HORNETS SELECT SIDNEY WEBBER..

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
No analysis needed here, whatever her sister can do, she can do too. Well, with that, the draft is over. We now turn to the man of the hour, Preston Greene. Welcome, Coach Greene!

Preston Greene wrote:
Glad to be here, gentlemen. This is definitely not the last time we'll ever meet.

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
It certainly won't be. So anyways, how do you feel about your team this year?

Preston Greene wrote:
I guarantee that the Hornets will make the playoffs. What we do in the playoffs is all up to the kids themselves.

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
That's a real bold claim. You think your team can back it up?

Preston Greene wrote:
Of course we can. We have all the tools to go far. Now, if you excuse me, I have to get to the coaches' meeting. See you later, Mister Dubbleplay, and see you soon, Vinny.

Vinny wrote:
Hasta la vista!

Abner Dubbleplay wrote:
Well, that signals the end of the show. On behalf of Vinny, Sunny, and Coach Greene, I wish you all goodbye. See you next time, and keep watchin'!

whew... finally this post is over... Probably takes up at least a page :P

NEXT UP: LINEUPS AND SCHEDULES

P.S. There WILL be agents. I have posted a poll as to whether you want a point system or not.

I had to get in line early, because it looks like points will happen. :)

I'm surprised nobody's picked Kenny Kawaguchi yet. If I do go with the point system, he'd have an advantage due to being the Hornets' ace...
