I know its a really really stupid question but lets say somebody trades for Halladay in the offseason like the Yankees lets say they trade Hughes and Montero would they only get Halladay for the next season since his contract is done or could they negotiate a long term deal right when they do the trade ? because to me it seems stupid for the Yanks to do a trade like that just for Halladay for one year |

He was nearing FA and the Mets made a move for him. However Santana was 29 and Halladay is 33. Halladay is in his prime, but its not worth distroying your farm system for a 33 year old pitcher. Halladay can sign a long term deal and who wouldnt want to sign Halladay to a long term, but he is not worth for 4 potentially promising prospects. Furthermore, Halladay is going to be a FA and people just need 1 draft pick for him. |

Yankees were frontrunners for the Santana deal, but the Mets got him. Halladay is not going to be traded. Halladay wants a contending team and the Jays want prospects. And which contending team would want a player in their 30's who is going to be a FA and eliminate their farm system. Its just stupid. |

if a team wants to trade for Halladay then the Jays have already said they will have a window to work out a new contract for him. Halladay also has a full no trade claus so you can bet that the only teams he would go to would be ones that would offer him an extension. if he hits FA then you can bet he will go to NY due to the overwelming $$ they could throw at him.....HOWEVER....if a team wants halladay and doesnt' want to gamble agaisnt NY $$'s then they will offer a trade and extension. this means you can count the Rays out of the picture, rumored to be intrested, due to the $$ the extension will cost....which leaves us with LAA, Boston, NY, and longshots of Philliy and LA. |
