Has anyone read this book? I am reading it right now and I highly recommend it. It is about Billy Beane and how he works with his super tiny payroll to create one of the best teams in the majors (this was written in 2003 and is based on the late 1990s and early 2000s A's teams). If you haven't read it you should go out and buy it, especially if you ever fantasize about being a GM. |

Probably a little outdated now that every other other organization is using advanced statistical research to some degree . . . but the ultimate lesson about turning overvalued resources (home runs, saves, star veterans, etc.) into undervalued resources (defense, FIP, youth, etc.) as a way to maximize potential value still holds true. |

Yah, this was the bible of anyone looking into SABR or any other advanced metrics. Great read. Was going to be a movie with Brad Pitt, right? I think that got canned tho. |

I've read this book three times. Great book. If you like the whole sabermetrics thing, there's tons more out there. Personally I like sabermetrics a lot (though I like the traditional scouting as well). |

I read and research everything I can get my eyes on, but I'm a big fan of Fangraphs and everything Tom Tango does. I don't always agree with Baseball Prospectus, but I love their annual. |

same here, and i read bill james' annual as well. i was trying to develop a formula for hitters performance in 8th grade, but i still haven't gotten the right balance of power-to-speed down... |
