Akinori Iwamure traded from Tampa Bay to Pittsburgh for RP Jesse Chavez

But I just heard according to mlb trade rumors

Mark Teahen was Traded from the Royals to the White Sox for 3B Josh Fields and 2B Chris Getz. Teahen is expected to replace Dye in right field when Dye probably signs elsewhere this offseason

Interesting Move if you ask me and I think it's a pretty good deal. Getz is a young 2B for has speed and Field's a young 3B who has struggled in the past few years, especially with injuries, but he hit around 23 homeruns a few years ago

I can't wait til MLB Network starts its offseason MLB Tonight version. I loved it last year

What exactly makes this thread "official"?

I think I liked MLB Hot Stove better than MLB Tonight.

How about this move:

REd Sox aquire Jeremy Hermida from the marlins for LHP's Hunter Jobes and Jose Alverez

Potential steal for the Red Sox. The White Sox on the other hand . . . somebody needs to give Kenny Williams a urine test because he must have been high when he OK'd that deal.

Ya Hermida had just one bad year and he apparently had 30 homerun power. Maybe a left fielder if the Red Sox can't sign Bay or Holliday maybe? Jones and Alverez didn't mean that much to us, it's sad to be a Marlin's fan sometimes because Uggla is very likely the next one gone

But Teahen is not good enough for 2 players like that. He's apparently going to replace Dye in right field while Dye sings elswhere(I see a potential signing with the Reds and Giants, mainly the Reds who almost traded Homer Bailey for him)

But Getz was 25/27 for stolen base attempts, the White Sox need speed. They're probably going to move Beckham to his normal position of shortstop and then move Ramirez to 2nd base. So who's their third basemen?? I think signing Figgin's is perfect for them as they would still have a little power at least

It's all interesting starts to the offseason but this is one of the best times of year because at this point every team is hopeful for 2010 because of free agents and potential trades that effect them, and even could hurt others in their division

Here is what I wrote over at Fangraphs regarding Teahen for Getz/Fields:

Purely speculative, but the acquisition of Teahen gives the White Sox a couple of options. I originally believed the Getz/Fields trade signified regular duty at 2B for Nix and at least one more season of Beckham at 3B and Alexei at SS with Teahen playing the super utility role. However, it could also mean they will experiment with Alexei in the OF and move Gordon back to his natural SS position. In this scenario, Teahen would be a fallback option at 3B if they fail to sign Chone Figgins, who Kenny Williams adores, or Adrian Beltre.

Either way, I don’t think 2B is an option for Alexei barring a complete face plant from the slick-fielding Nix in the spring.

As for the Royals, they could (should) start Getz at 2B, shift Callaspo to 3B and demote Gordon to one of the OF corners. Gordon’s range at 3B is poor and I’m guessing hip surgery won’t improve his lateral burst. Fields is sort of a reclamation project, but he could contribute immediately as a DH if he finds his stroke this spring. He can’t be any worse than Mike Jacobs.

> Twins get J.J. Hardy, SS
> Brewers get Carlos Gomez, CF

Both are elite defenders at their respective positions, but much of the defensive value Gomez providesis erased by his offense. Hardy is a great buy low candidate after a down year at the plate in 2009. If Hardy can rediscover his stroke, the Twins just nabbed one of the best all-around shortstops in baseball for a 23-year old Corey Patterson. Big win for the Twinkies.

I love this trade for the Twins. A very good shortstop who hit 26 homeruns in 2007. Gomez would've had to fight Cuddyer, Span, Young and maybe even Kubel if he wanted to play everyday so this is great for the Twins, as for the Brewers its not bad. Cameron is a free agent I think so Gomez would take over

the offseason has started off with a bang so far

Did this really happen? Or is this just speculation?
