I'm in May, trying to strengthen the Red Sox and cut some salary. Lowell is making 12 million a year for two years. . . Edwin is only making making 7,600,000 over two years.

Quote:
35-year-old third baseman Mike Lowell, 22-year-old minor league starting pitcher Michael Bowden, 27-year-old reliever Ramon Ramirez and 21-year-old minor league starting pitcher Felix Doubront will now be playing for the Cincinnati Reds and 26-year-old third baseman Edwin Encarnacion will be suiting up for the Boston Red Sox.

This year Lowell has 3 home runs and a .210 batting average.

Thus far this year Encarnacion is batting .307 with 9 home runs, 24 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

In this trade, I'm acquiring a needed shortstop --

Quote:
In a surprising swap, Boston has picked up 27-year-old shortstop Alexei Ramirez and 25-year-old shortstop Brent Lillibridge from Chicago in exchange for 25-year-old shortstop Jed Lowrie, 19-year-old minor league center fielder Ryan Westmoreland and 19-year-old minor league right fielder Tyler Yockey. Sources from both teams said the deal only materialized within the past few days. "We were inquiring about some other players," the Red Sox GM explained. "We were not expecting to make a deal of this magnitude, but it came together rather quickly."

Currently Lowrie is batting .282 with 2 home runs, 11 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

This season Ramirez has hit at a .347 clip with 19 RBIs, 5 home runs and 19 runs scored.

Westmoreland is one of the top twenty prospects in my system. He's nineteen though and with Ellsbury/Reddick, he'll probably get little-to-none playing time when he's ready. Lowrie keeps getting injured (injured five times already and I'm not even a week into May). Thankfully, none of the injuries have been serious, but he's too much of a risk to keep around when I can't count on him 24/7.

Thoughts on the trades, anyone?

Does it say anything about Yockey?

Yeah, he's a nineteen year old minor league right fielder with below average hitting ability, but has some upside if he puts everything together. He's projected to be a big power guy though.

Just thought I'd add this, a trade I don't need to have your guys' opinion on since it's turned out to be the best move I've made so far for the Red Sox.

Quote:
The Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Pirates exchanged players late this afternoon. Officials for Boston confirmed they have traded twenty-seven year old right fielder Rocco Baldelli to the Pittsburgh Pirates for twenty-five year old right fielder Brandon Moss.

So far in 2009 Baldelli is batting .217 with no homers, 4 RBIs, and seven runs scored. He has ten hits in forty-six at-bats and a .294 OBP.

Brandon Moss is hitting .286 with seven home runs.

Sounds like a good deal, right? I get a younger, cheaper guy who's performing better than Rocco?

Well, in his first eight games Moss has an OPS of over 1.200, three home runs and thirteen RBIs. He's struck out once and hasn't been walked so his OBP and BA is .457. He also has two stolen bases (third and home against the Yankees). He's on pace to hit 52 home runs for me and over 183 RBIs!! And what's even better? The exact same day the Pirates agreed to the trade, J.D Drew and his 14 million dollar salary went down for the year!

UPDATE: Upon writing this post, I began to play a game against the Rays. Moss didn't start the game, but Chip Ambres did instead. In the fifth, I bring Moss in and take Ambres out. He struck out. The seventh inning rolls around, Nick Johnson starts it off with a walk. He gets thrown out stealing second. Jason Bay strikes out. Pedroia gets walked and Nick Green strikes out BUT Price's pitch is in the dirt, so it rolls all the way to the backstop. Pedroia is on second and Green is on first. Brandon Moss is up and Boston is down by one. Moss fouls off two of Price's pitches to the right field stands. The count is 0-2, Price delivers and BAM! Moss drove a David Price slider over the right field wall to put Boston up by two. =) We proceeded to win the game because of this guy and his clutch home run.

His next at bat after the home run, he drives in Kevin Youkilis and Nick Johnson with a single to right. :) I love Brandon Moss now. Absolutely love him!! He's on a tear right now and is definitely in the running for May's MVP at this point, if he keeps it up. Bye-bye Mark Texeira, hello Mr. Brandon Moss.

Well, at least the Sox got Moss back.

The trades do seem to be good, you have gotten younger and cheaper which is always good for a ball-club.

Also, what game is this for? OOTP 10?
