Post subject:  Ranking Teams

I was thinking about the best offense in the game. Being the complete and utterly obsessed baseball enthusiast I am, (and because I'm bored), I decided to rank the best offense, pitching, defense, and bullpen going into 2009 with the players signed where they are. I'm curious what you guys think too.

Rather then discuss my reasoning for each pick and scare you all away with long paragraphs between each of the 30 teams, I'll just answer your questions and challenges when/if you have them.

Offense:
Not too sure about these
1. Yankees (big suprise, huh? Really not too sure still)
2. Rangers
3. Boston
4. Cubs
5. Mets
6. Phillies
7. White Sox
8. Detroit
9. Orioles
10. Twins
11. Brewers
12. Indians
13. Cardinals
14. Rays
15. Marlins
16. Dodgers (higher with Manny)
17. Rockies
18. Astros
19. Blue Jays
20. Braves
21. Royals
22. Angels
23. Oakland A's (higher if they sign Giambi and or Abreu)
24. D-Backs
25. Mariners
26. Reds
27. Pirates
28. Nationals
29. Giants
30. Padres
I'll rank pitching, defense, and bullpen later. Take a wild guess at who is at the top of my pitching list (I'm much more conifdent about the number 1 rotation then offense)

I guess I'll start...

No way giants are 29th.
Rays are better than 14th.
Rangers aren't THAT good.
A's should be up, they DID just get Matt Holliday...
I scoff at Orioles ahead of Rays.
Angels should at least be 15th.

lol i guess you really were bored huh

Well i agree with alot of it but Phillies are definatly ahead of Mets especially since they got Raul Ibanez (spelling sucks) and while Rangers do have a good offense i believe that Boston is a bit ahead only because of the loss of Milton Bradley i mean Boston has not lost anybody

Also for the above poster the Orioles do have a good offense even though their pitching is horrible but Angels should be higher and so should the Cardinals. Last Giants should be higher especially with the addition of their new players and the possibility of Manny

Are you kidding!?!??! 14 for the Dodgers? More like in the high 20s they HAD BARELY ANY HOMERS. Manny helped but that was for just a half a year.

And Steven, the Rangers offense is that good, if this was for overall (which it should be) The Rangers and Rays would be switched beacause Rangers have no pitching.

Also, you should have put in your reason for each pick, I'm interested.

^ no man he's not rating the overall team he is just rating the offense which is why rangers are still high

I disagree and actually agree with Cownip. They have one of the best offenses in the league.

If you moved the Dodgers so much for the Dodgers getting Manny (Which you shouldn't...)

I'd say switch A's with Dodgers, the A's got Holliday remember.

I disagree with most of what you said. Yes way the Giants are 29th, they had the second worst offense last year. The Ray aren't necessarily, there a clutch team who scrape a few runs but have good pitching that that's all they need. I forgot about Holiday and now Giambi for the As. Orioles are a great offensive team. Angels have a bad offense, especially without Texiera. I'll relist em' later with what you all said in mind, and I'll give my reasoning for more questionable teams. I could be and probably am wrong about a good number of the teams.

The Reds are going to be a top ten pitching team, but a slumping offensive sloth.

I didn't see it was offense only.
Rays should at least be closer to the Orioles.
Angels still have Vladdy and Chone Figgins, but they should at least be top 20.
Rangers should move down, but just a couple spots. Didn't they just lose Bradley?

They did just lose Milton Bradley, but they have people that can replace him. However, before they contend, they need to get more pitching.

Well some updates Giambi signs with the A's so they should move up with the addition of Holiday (spelling) as well, they look like a pretty good homerun team now actually

Post subject:  Re: Ranking Teams

Yep, I'd update it, but then I'd have to update it for every player signing, and I just don't want to, sorry haha. This isn't official or anything, it's highly opinionated and some of it is down right wrong due to lack of knowledge of certain teams offenses or what I remembered at the time. Just some of the basics is right, or at least have some good argument for them (the top and bottom teams, and specific teams being above/below others).
