What are the Cubs thinking?! They traded Mark DeRosa to the Indians for three minor league pitchers! That was very stupid! I mean, I know they signed Aaron Miles who will probably replace him, but come on! I liked DeRosa!

I'm no Cubs fan, but obviously he is getting old, and they need to trade him before his value goes down even more and then they may not be able to trade him. Actually, it was a very smart move, not a bad move. They need the minor leaguers, and like I said, DeRosa's value is going to down. So they traded him while they could.

What if he didn't have a good year in 09'? Then they never would have been able to trade him.

Well, I thought he would replace Fukudome in right, but hey, he was a good utility player, and 3 minorleague pitchers...... they might totally stink!

DeRosa is past his prime. Those pitchers have a good long while to develop. The Cubs have good minor league coaches aswell. It's a better trade than you guys think.

Past his prime? He hit a career high 21 homers, and a career high 87 RBI in 2008!

Well, hey, at least the Cubs got rid of Jason Marquis. What were the Rockies thinking? That dude's gonna have a 5.70 ERA...

But will he be able to duplicate that? You aren't a Theo Epstein or any GM, they know what they are doing.

Yeah, I know, I'm no GM. But the Cubs got rid of Marquis's $10 million contract while only having to eat $1 million. Vizcaino's contract is $4 M, so the Cubs dropped $4 M in payroll. Plus, they just traded Mark DeRosa's $5.5 M contract. I think they are clearing up payroll to sign a big-name free agent like Bobby Abreu...

Possibly, but DeRosa played second right? What FA could they sign for that?

Hudson?

If you do look at it like that, they are trading payroll for a a big Free Agent, plus they get prospects. 2 Birds with one stone I suppose.

I know one of the prospects pretty well. LHP John Gaub. He has a good fastball that has touched 97. He is a good strikeout pitcher.

well, this probably means Fontenot will be the opening day 2B. would I start Miles on a regular basis? no way, but let's see what Lou does.

Dropping salary for Milton Bradley?! They could have just signed him without dropping any salary! If they're getting rid of DeRosa and possibly Marquis, they better be going after Peavy again!

Well obviously they signed Miles beacause they knew they would be trading DeRosa. I would also assume Fotenot to starts at second mostly beacause he has been with the organization longer. Or it could also go to the one who has the best Spring Training.

If they are trying to get Peavy now after the trades then why not try to do it earlier?

not sure...
Do the Cubs have any good enough IF prospects that could fill DeRosa's shoes?
