In all honesty i do not see a better rotation in all of MLB today. As of now it is

1. Sabathia
2. Burnett
3. Wang
4. Chamberlan
5. Petitte/Lowe/Hughs

When you have either Petitte or Lowe in the back end of your rotation you know that you have a strong rotation

So how do you guys think the Yankees will do next year? Also who do you think should fit the number 5 spot of the rotation?

I do feel however though that Sabathia will not play well in NY because if you see his record at Yankee stadium its really not too good. I also feel Burnett will get killed in NY if even misses a week or 2. Same with Sabathia they will really have to pitch until their arms fall off. Sabathia wouldnt mind doing that but Burnett since it is not a contract renewal year would probably take a while off.

looks like a strong rotation. Should be a good WS match-up for the phills.

Not really good match up, should be one-sidded, just kidding. In play-offs only the 1st 4 pitches are usually used. However, Chien-Ming Wang and Sabathia play like crap in the play-offs. Didnt seen Burnett in the playoffs before. (When did he leave the Marlins?) Mabye Pettitte would take Joba's place and he would move the the bullpen.

Best in the AL, but best in the NL is definitely my Cubs.

If the Cubs got Peavy, THAT would be the best rotation in MLB.

I do admit having a Sabathia, then Burnett rotation is INCREDIBLY scary.

add a massive ? to burrnett. can't stay healthy. spends more time on the bench with injuries then he does on the mound. someone said he is the next "carl pavno 2.0."

If a player can't stay healthy, he's not much good. One big reason the phills won this year was lack of significant injuries. Victorino and Rollins went down with minor injuries early on, and Feliz had one in August, i believe. The only major one was Tom "Flash" Gordon, but Madson emerged as a strong 8th inning man down the strech, so we were okay. If Burnett can stay healty, the yanks will have a much better shot at playing the phills in the WS.

Amen. Relating to football, Donavan McNabb got injured and never returned to his former glory. Eddie George did the same. Once a player get's injured, he'll be shaken up and won't be able to be as good. Also, a player can't play if an injury is serious, and all he does is ride the bench then, so he isn't as good, as you said.

amen to the McNabb thing. Westbrook has the same problem. Look at Howard. He's got over 250 games in a row played. one of the major reasons he's good. Same with CC (getting back to the yankee's) he pitched like, 8 games in a row down the strech off 3 day's rest? You gotta be strong to do that. I would think that's a reason he choked in the playoffs.

CC is strong, and that would make sense with what you said, I just didn't want to quote all of it because it would be really long.

Yes but dont forget Utley will miss the first couple of weeks of the season this year which will be interesting to see actually. Also i did say in the bottom of my post that i dont believe that Burnett will stay healthy.

Mabye with CC and Wang ahead of him in the rotation, it would motivatate him not to get injured and play even better.
So, this is the rotation:
CC Sabathia: 19 game winner, 07 CY Young winner, Biggest contract for pitcher.
Chien-Ming Wang: 2 time 19 game winning, Asian FTW.
A.J. Burnett: 18 game winner, 2008 AL SO champion, known to have alot of injury problems.
Joba: Young pitcher, can be stater/bullpen, 100mph heater, well above average slider, alot of SO
Andy Pettitte (I hope): Nothing to say, simpily one of the best pitches the yankee's cutter and worked 200+ innings last year.

Pettite I think is almost a shoo in for the rotation and will very likely be signed. I think the pursing of Lowe is to scare Pettite into accepting 10 million, but I expect a 12 million dollar contract. While I think right now the Yankees are probably favorites to win the division, it's not by much and you have to remember that the Rays, Yankees and Red Sox are probably the best three teams in baseball (You have to remember, the Angels are in a really bad division and get more wins from it, and the Phillies weren't as good of a regular season team last year as most play-off teams.). Now if the Yankees make the play-offs, Pettite will certainly start in it as he is a great play-off pitcher. Joba is fantastic under pressure and should probably also (I think Joba might be considered the number 3 pitcher by the end of the year). Wang has been so bad in the play-offs, but he hasn't played in enough to know if it was just a fluke. CC has been great under pressure and during the big games, and that's what the play-offs are. So I see CC being all-right in the play-offs. I don't think Burnetts ever pitched in one. Yo really can't predict this untill the season is over and you see how each pitcher did (if Lowe is on the team instead, he will start also as he is a great play-off pitcher too).
So here is the obvious rotation with a little more to add then My Name is Lucy had.
1. CC Sabathia,
A hurler with a Cy Young who is extreamly durable (which the Yankees need!) and is on pace for 300 wins (wow!) with a bad Indian Offense
2. Cheng Ming Wang,
One of the best Asian pitchers and definetly the best Taiwan pitcher. He appears to be durable as long as he doesn't run. 2 time 19-game winner, both season he played the full season he was third in CY Young. A Great ace and a Fantastic number 2.
3. AJ Burnett,
A guy with incredible stuff on the years he stays healthy. As long as he doesn't injure himself (knocks on wood), he should be great and a number 2 quality pitcher.
4. Joba Chamberlain
What the hell is this guy doing as number 4! A number 2 guy (at this point in his career) with the stuff of a great ace, this guy has a 2.6 ERA in 11-12 starts as a Yankee. Look for him to improve a lot and probably be better then Burnett by the end of the year. He may be the future number 2, or possibly even the future ace. He was the future number 2 before CC came, but you never know.
5. Pettite
Great pitcher with an amazing win percentage. He may be older, but you can still get at least 1 good season out of him. He's also the best and most consistent stopper (other then last year) I've seen play. If the guy lost before him, he always wins. Bottom line, he wins games.
6. Phil Hughes
It won't be a 6-man rotation, but he might start pitching a little at the end of the year as he could probably start next year. If someone gets injured (knocks on wood), and knowing the Yankees someone will (knocks even harder) he will take their place.
7. Aceves
He did great this year and he will probably be a spot-start for Joba. I don't know where and what he will become this year, but he will probably be on the Major League roster at some time unless they don't think he's devoloped enough yet. If he makes a great case in spring-training and does well again when they bring him up, you never know.

Burnett won't be the next Carl Pavano. He doesn't get injured as much and he won't get payed more then a million a start. Also, Pavano was over payed. In fact, he was offered more by the Red Sox, but he wanted to play for the Yankees. Finally, Pavano didn't pitch for two reasons: He was injured 3/4ths of the time, and he was terrible when he was healthy (though he did OK this year on his 5 starts). Burnett is a better pitcher by far. I still don't like the Yankees signing him 5 years, it's too risky. I'd take lowe for 4 instead if I were them or Sheet for 3.

If Burnett gets injured, then it's atleast 15mil wasted.

If C.C continues to do poorly on an AL team then that's 161mil gone (no one is going to take on that salary)

Everyone thinks the Rays are contenders now, and judging by the situation they are. But take a look at the Indians, made the ALCS terrible. the next year.


Getting off-topic. I'm excited to see how the Royals are going to do. Look at everyone they are signing. I am starting to speculate if they will be the Rays of 08'.

Poorly on an AL team? Didn't he get CY Young last year (07)?
Have the Royals signed anyone besides Farnsworth? I think they made some good trades, but they were more so for the future. I don't think the management has any plans for the post-season this year, but I think there making changes for some gradual improvement. Again, I don't believe that anyone will do what the Rays have done in a while. Heck, arguably no one has. The Rays are the second team next to the D-Backs to go from a losing record every year to a World Series, but the D-Backs had only played 1 year before and the Rays hadn't had a season with more then 70 wins in 10 years and were truley horrible up unto that point. The Royals have been a pretty successful team since they were made with 2 World Series in 30 years (I think) with 2 pennants before the ALCS (or NCLS).
