Im going to MLB.com and checking out the team sites... Most of them have more than 40 players listed!

My question is "Can an MLB team have more than 40 players at any given time?

I know the active roster is 25-man until Sep. callups when it expands to 40... But that still leaves the question un-awnsered...

:?: CAN AN MLB TEAM HAVE MORE THAN 40 PLAYERS AT ANY GIVEN TIME DURING THE SEASON? :?:

Can there be for example 43 players on an MLB team :?: :?: :?:

As far as I know, no. The players listed are probably minor leaguers.

By the way, nice avatar! 8)

hmm... I dont get it...

I thought it was 40 max including Active, AAA and DL players and that it could not exceed that #.

However on most team websites @ MLB.com alot of them have 40some players listed on their 40man rosters...

In MLBPP you can have 25 Active and 20 inactive players even though it says SPACE 15 in AAA which would also equal the 40... So MLBPP also allows you to exceed 40 players...

Well, some people are injured, but are still part of the roster. So I'm guessing they are stilllisted as well as their replacements.

The 40-man roster is comprised of the 25-man roster, minor leaguers you want to protect from the Rule 5 draft, and anyone on the 15-day DL. Guys on the 60-day DL are not included, so there's no limit to how many you can assign there.

The mlb.com rosters are a bit screwy at the moment because they don't remove players from their previous team's roster who have declared free agency or have had their options declined until they officially sign on with another team.

As much as I like MLB.com for the highlights, never trust the rosters on the site until late Feburary.

Mainly because with F/A going on, the rosters are unreliable. So wait till about Feburary or March. Then you get a better idea with the rosters and who got the boot and who stayed on.

The mlb.com 40-man roster is now accurate, at least for the Mets. It does not include free agents like Moises Alou, Pedro Martinez, or Oliver Perez. It does include 1B Mike Carp, who was added on 11/20 to protect him from the upcoming Rule 5 draft.

There are a total of 34 players listed, which matches the NY Daily News report on the Carp transaction.

Not really, unless you count spring training, but that's really not a team roster then. I wonder what the standards are for triple a, double a, single a, ect. (there are a few lower levels and leagues in the middle that MLB teams own).
