I would have to say my favorite past World Series would have to be when the Diamondbacks beat the Yankees with CS and RJ. I would have to say my favorite World Series Moment was when KG hit the game 1 winning walkoff homerun off of DE. What was yours? |

Since the Cubs haven't been IN the World Series as long as I've been alive, I'd also have to go with Red Sox winning in '04. |

Past WS: 1954 (Willie Mays' catch [yes, that one] and the giants actually *gasp* won.) WS Moment: Willie Mays' catch & Joe Carter's walk-off in '93 (Can't think of anything else right now...) |

Being a relatively new fan, I actually haven't fully watched a world series. I didn't see 04 or 07 and I watched parts of 05 and 06. I didn't really like any of the teams. My favorite world series related moment was Chambis's walk-off homerun that sent the Yankees to their first world series in like 20+ years. The crowd quite literally ran on to the field. Chambilis tried to run around the bases and he made it all the way to third, but when he got home a fan had taken the base. Thousands of fans were litterally swarming the field in excitement (Yankee fans, Yankee Stadium) and he couldn't find where the base was. Traditionally, for a homer to count you have to go all the way around. The Ump let him know he was fine and didn't have to touch it, and one of the best game endind moments of baseball history occured. Imagine fans trying to swarm the field today... the only place it still might be possible is in chicago with the Cubs, and even that would be hard. |

My favorite WS moment was when Dusty baker reverted to little league world series manager, and decided to let everyone play an inning during the 6th inning of game 6 of the 2002 WS. Russ Ortiz was well on his way to a win, and was pitching great, when along comes Dusty, who promptly takes Ortiz out for relief pitching just to get players a moment of WS playtime... needless to say, the Giants proceeded to lose the game after disasterous relief efforts, and went on to lose the series in game 7 to the Angels (I also curse Adam kennedy, and Troy Glaus forever due to this series). So, instead of winning a WS ring, the Giants managed to lose, and continue their no championships in the bay area since arriving here. Thanks Dusty. Oh wait...this thread is FAVORITE WS moments? I thought you asked what WS moments make me want to punt a baby. |

Mine would be Bruce Sutter striking out the last Brewers hitter to win the '82 WS for the Cardinals. Favorite non-WS moment was Ozzie Smith hitting the first left handed homerun of his career, a walk-off shot off of Dodgers closer Tom Niedenfeur in game 5 of the 1985 NLCS. That's the play you hear on the promos these days with announcer Jack Buck screaming "I don't believe what I just saw!" |

Non-world series would either be Chris Burke's 18th inning walk-off or for the regular season Craig Biggio's 3000th hit gameincredible game |

No, by the cubs I mean that fact that they would have finally won a world series, and because of that they would swarm the field. As much as I hated the outcome of the last game, I've watched most of that series, a few games twice on Yes (Yankees Channel). That World Series is quite arguably the best in history and it was a simply incredible series to watch. Knowing the outcome, I loved every game except for the ending of the last and I truely appreciated some of the best baseball ever played in a World Series. By mentioning a non-world-series moment, I was talking about a moment that led the Yanks to a world-series (it was the last game of the season and a make up one at that. If they won that game, they made it to the world series, if not they lost it). its definetly fine to talk about your favorite moments in the game that aren't in the world series, but for this thread I'd stick to the world series, play-offs, or games that directly sent a team there. Another favorite was Don Larsen's perfect game. You know that Yogi caught Larsen's game? Well, a year after David Well's pitched his perfect game, it was Yogi Berra day at the stadium (Yankee Stadium of course). Don Larsen through the honorary first pitch and Yogi caught it. David Cone pitched a perfect game that same day. What are the chances of that? Holy Cow haha, you have more chances of winning every lottery in the east coast all in one day. |
