Anyone play some good MMO(RPG)'s? I'm a proud Mabinogi fan, used to play RuneScape some time, MapleStory a bit, yeah. I heard FlyFF was good but sounds weird o.O |

used to play RuneScape but it got old and now it just sucks. I tried Maplestory but takes too long now to level up. Flyff is OK but its just slow..real slow on my comp. But Puzzle Pirates is really fun..i highly suggest it |

I don't play much anymore- my stats are much lower than about a year ago, since I am busy with RL. I am typically on late night hours while trolling this forum. I have quite a history on the ocean (some of it dubious), which a number of my former and current hearties will tell ye about, or ye can look at my dumbed-down autobiography. Best Game Ever. Okay, for what it's worth, it's about the graphics quality of MLBPP, simple but with a lot of depth under the deceptively simple skin. Don't want to take my word for it? go to http://www.puzzlepirates.com and check it out for yourself. The game runs on Java, so you can play with any PC, Mac, *nix system that can run Java 1.5. You can run it in a browser window, but I highly suggest downloading it, it loads faster and updates faster as well. Doing puzzles is the easiest and simplest way to make Pieces of Eight (PoE = currency) but there are many ways to earn PoE and come to rule the ocean. The entire game is player-run with no "GameMaster" intervention (except for the obvious admin/discipline and occasional prize filled contests). The best part is that you can play for FREE! That's right FREE! No money now, later, or EVER (if you chose a Green-colored ocean). Free oceans (also called Doubloon or Green oceans) use Doubloons as a secondary currency as a fee to purchase higher end goods, rise in rank, play certain puzzles, enter special realms, etc. With the in-game exchange system, you can exchange the PoE you earned from puzzling or carousing into Doubloons, and thus NEVER have to pay anything for doubloons (you can, of course, use a credit card or paypal, etc. to purchase doubloons). I'm on the Hunter (green- get it?) Ocean, which is a Doubloon Ocean. There are also Subscription oceans (blue colored) that charge a small monthly fee, but you get FULL access to everything (no doubloon fee, no access badges to buy). My referral link is in my signature. Using the link you get 500 PoE as a bonus. You'll also automatically join my crew (okay, my wife's crew and flag - she's the Queen and Captain) from the referral, they will be happy to take ye aboard. (of course, I want ye to act like an adult and be respectful, no one likes an annoying pirate). You can: Puzzle- Go and pillage on the sea, bilge water from below deck, carpent the holes in the ship, tug on sails, man the helm all through puzzles. Stay on land and mingle with other pirates, engage in swordfights/brawls/drinking competitions, play cards (poker is one), or any of 7 carousing games. Win a parrot (or octopus/monkey) to carry on your shoulder for winning elite puzzle competitions or forum contests. Shopping and Shipping- Go shopping at player run stalls (or manage your own). Anything in this world must be foraged, pillaged, or constructed at these stalls. Clothing, Swords, Ships, Furniture Buy a house and put all that stuff you've earned into it. Sail the vast ocean to trade commodities and supplies. Get Political- Have your own crew (though it's highly expected of you to join an existing one for at least a few months) Have your own flag (which is made of many crews). Own your own island (ppl pay you to rent a shop) although you'll have to fight for it and defend it! |

I played the pre-cursors to the modern MMORPG games back in college in the early '90s - MUDs. They were text-based online RPGs, on a good server you could have a couple of hundred people on at a given time. Spent way too many hours online doing that -lol- By the time Ultima Online and Everquest and the like came around I was way too busy to get immersed in that type of thing again -lol- |

I played City of Heroes rather extensively for maybe a year...it was great while I was lifeless, and travelling around for work. Eventually I made the decision that the massive waste of time wasn't worth the monthly fees anymore. Other ones interested me mildly, like Shadowrun or that racing/Max Mad ish one (Auto Assault). Even now I get the itch for City of Heroes, to join a group of like 7 people and shoot at stuff. But there either aren't enough people on, or they're all 12-13 with no teamplay concepts. I used to play CounterStrike somewhat obsessively in college. That was always much better than preparing for a test. My previous roommate, who was in her 50's, was a huge World of Warcraft addict. Pretty much every night, she was trying to get her character up to level 70 or whatever. At this point in my life (halfway through 27), I think the time, money, and effort expended in these games is just too much. I am in the prime of life...and compared to anything else I can be doing - exercising, seeing a concert, playing sports, writing/recording/performing music, reading a book, learning something new, taking lessons, second job, cleaning the house, community service, etc - MMORPGs just cant keep my interest. I still love games, and play Baseball Mogul or MLBPP 2007 now and then...I even dig out SNES emulators and play old PC games like X-Com or Civilization/Colonization or something else silly now and then, when my brain gets that itch. But so many of the games, costing monthly fees, AND taking 24 hours of continuous play to see any reward...man, what a waste. What if I had put that effort into learning Calculus? Or studying for the election? Or something that I personally created, like music or art? That's incredible. And to me, that's a better use of my brainpower, while it's at its peak. I know I sound a bit like a reformed addict, but seriously, from 12 to 24 I spent a huge portion of my waking life playing video games. It made a huge impact, teaching me strategy, eye/hand coordination, even some history, diplomacy, and other valuable skills. God, Final Fantasy 7 was like the biggest emotional experience I had ever had, and it was a GAME! But eventually those things pale in comparison to the beauty of life. And so many games go with visuals and effects instead of true gameplay/strategy, so...I think I am nearly done with them, as sad as that is to type. |
