Post subject: | "Mom" (Poem) |
Poetry assignment #3 was to write a poem using a persona (meaning the speaker is someone other than yourself). I chose to write from the perspective of my mom, but in a second-person point of view. Would love to hear your thoughts/feedback on this poem! "Mom" Maybe one day he’ll finally go to the gym like he’s told you all these years. Maybe he’ll lift the bar, set it down, realize the real strength he needs is inside, not out of the weather but out of the whether or not to finally admit that you were right all along. “Mother knows best.” You knew there was no way a straight boy could tell cerulean from cornflower, sea foam from turtle green, could go three years and still not confess his crush. Maybe one day. But until then, you wait for his weight to rise again, like a BMI of 19 will kill a kid of 19, you fatten him up, fatten him up, yet he’s still stick-thin. Maybe one day. |
