to be completely honest, I never got into the books/movies as a kid. Read/watched bits and pieces at school here and there, and I know the basics just from general social osmosis and whatever but I do actually plan on reading the whole series through over the summer (probably by getting the books one at a time from the library), I feel like it's one of those series that you have to read for basic cultural awareness |

My ex girlfriend made me read her one of the books...it always seemed a bit childish and not great. I mean for fantasy novels, the JRR Tolkein stuff is the gold standard (hobbit, lord of the rings) and there's plenty of good fantasy/magic after that...D&D books like Dragonlance, Shannara, David Eddings and his tons of series, terry brooks, heck even Magic: The Gathering had an excellent book called Arena. Compared to all those, Potter has always appeared kind of juvenile in comparison - and not especially well written either. It certainly struck a nerve and was popular, but so was Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey, and those were entirely trash. So I am not high on the potter series ![]() |
