He was the starter all of last season, and did fairly decent. He did have that 4 INT game against LSU, but Roberson had a 4 INT game last season against Penn State, who, while good, is certainly no LSU. Roberson and Sudfeld each had good games, but against very weak opponents. Plus, they both lack experience. I'd tab Coffman as the starter, Roberson as the backup, and Sudfeld as the QB of the future

I very much agree with this.

Hm...actually, Roberson had two 4-INT games last year...

I'll give each one some time against UMass, and try to work this out.

---

Coach Wilson has announced that all three of his quarterbacks will get time against Massachusetts on Saturday, IndyStar.com reports. "We looked back on our stats and saw that Roberson was quite inconsistent and Coffman had some accuracy problems. Right now, I would give Nate Sudfeld the starting job."

It looks as if the Hoosiers could pull together a nice recruiting class for 2014. They have one commit so far, 4-star cornerback Larry Hawkins from Kokomo, and out of the 10 players they are targeting currently, four of them are 4-stars. We were able to listen in on a conversation between coach Kevin Wilson and 4-star wideout Bruce Jones, from East St. Louis, Illinois, who currently has the Hoosiers on his list behind only the Buckeyes of Ohio State.

Wilson: Good morning, Bruce.
Jones: Good morning to you, Coach Wilson. Now let me start off by saying that I am most definitely not making a commitment anytime soon, and neither you nor Coach Meyer have given me anything to propel their school way ahead.
Wilson: Good to know. The first thing I wanted to discuss with you is our conference prestige. The Big Ten is rated as the #1 conference.
Jones: I know, you and Coach Meyer have said that at least 10 times already.
Wilson: Just don't consider non-Big Ten schools. It isn't worth it.
Jones: Well...
Wilson: You seem a bit bored. Well, did you know that Indiana gets to play teams like Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin every year?
Jones: I'm done talking about that. I suggest we move on to something else.
Wilson: How about playing time? We have 3 departing seniors at wide receiver. Your competition would basically be Kevin Davis, Cody Latimer, and Shane Wynn. At OSU you would be behind
Jones: I want to get on the field and play, Coach, but I'm not sure they can provide that.
Wilson: And of course, our football players average a 3.3 GPA, which gets us a B-plus in academic prestige according to the NCAA list.
Jones: Not interested.
Wilson: So you're saying you want to be the idiot who gets a 50 awareness rating in NCAA Football 15? The one with 11 drops and 3 fumbles?
Jones: Good point. If this whole coaching thing doesn't work out, you could have a nice job in sales.
Wilson: I've been told.
Jones: How often?
Wilson: Probably 5 times a week.
Jones: That's a lot. You must be quite convincing.
Wilson: I guess so. By the way, did you go home and look at the distances to here and to Ohio State from your house like I told you to?
Jones: No, and I don't plan to. I don't care about proximity to home.
Wilson: What if your dad fell and broke his leg, and your mom got a bad disease?
Jones: That's quite ominous...
Wilson: Well, never mind that. But seriously, you should care.
Jones: Let it go, Coach. I'm not changing my mind.
Wilson: Now I want to know what you are interested in.
Jones: I would like a lot of coach prestige for my team. Not just the head coach but the offensive coordinator and receivers coach as well. A bigger name coach can only help me eventually get to that next level.
Wilson: So I take it you are interested in pro potential as well?
Jones: Of course! I watch the draft every year and I can't WAIT until the day when they call my name! Bruce. Jones. Man, it gives me chills!
Wilson: It was nice talking to you, Bruce. Have a nice day. *click*

Indiana has officially released its 2013 football depth chart. The list came with a note from head coach Kevin Wilson noting that this was the final depth chart for the UMass game and that he would keep the press informed of any changes. Here it is:

---

QB- Coffman | Sudfeld
HB- Houston | Coleman | Roundtree
FB- Zakrzewski | Young
WR- Hughes | Chester | Wilson | Davis | Latimer
TE- Bolser | Kearns
LT- Chapman | Spriggs
LG- Rogers | Bachman
C- Evans | Dooley
RG- Rahrig | Evers
RT- Eckert | Lewis

LE- Shaw | Cole
DT- Rayner | Bradford | Ryan | Roberts
RE- Phillis | Laihinen
LOLB- Hoobler | M.Replogle
MLB- Alexander | Dahlstrom
ROLB- Cooper | Kennedy
CB- Heban | Barnett | Mullen | Williams
FS- Waters | D.Hardin
SS- Murphy | Clark

LS- Dooley
K- Phillips
P- Voss
Kickoff- Ewald
KR- Coleman | Wynn
PR- Davis | Stoner

---

The exclusion of junior quarterback Tre Roberson means he likely will not play this season barring injury. Roberson, Wilson said, is the third QB, and Chase Clark is the 4th QB.

It also appears as if senior kicker Mitch Ewald has lost his job. In a scrimmage Thursday afternoon, Ewald was only 1-for-3 on field goals and Roberson threw an interception on his first, and only, pass attempt.

Agents are illegal under NCAA rules.

That is my excuse.

OK, and yes I did want the long snapper! You have a problem. I think it would've been cool.

By the way, the "scrimmage" = 3 quarters against UMass = didn't finish game

Ewald's 2 misses were both from 50 yards...amazing time management on my part but my kicker sucks.

UMass 9
Indiana 21

Both teams started off with long scoring drives. UMass' 10-play opening drive resulted in a 37-yard field goal, and Indiana's 12-play drive resulted in a short TD run by Isaiah Roundtree. All of the next 5 drives resulted in turnovers- a UMass punt, Indiana interception, UMass fumble, Indiana fumble, and a UMass fumble that was recovered by IU safety Mark Murphy and returned 91 yards for a touchdown. In the 3rd quarter, Brad Phillips missed a 48-yard field goal, but Kenny Mullen picked off Kellen Pagel to set up a first down at the UMass 33. From there, the Hoosiers tried to run out the clock. With 5:49 left, Roundtree powered it in for his 2nd touchdown of the day at the end of a drive that took exactly 3 minutes. UMass' coach must have seen something, as he ran the ball on 4th and long and ended up turning it over on downs. At that point, IU turned to its backups and let them try and run out the clock. Unfortunately, they ended up losing 5 yards on a delay of game and had to punt. On the Minutemen's next possession, Pagel threw to Marken Michel for a 32-yard touchdown, but the 2-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful. The Hoosiers recovered the onside kick and were able to run the clock out completely, and ended the game with a handoff to Roundtree, who couldn't quite make it in again. Roundtree was named the player of the game.

Indiana has fired head football coach Kevin Wilson. 22-year-old Peter Smith, a member of Indiana's 2012 graduating class, will replace him. Smith was serving as a graduate assistant for the team.

---

The Hoosiers received commitments from Wallace Sanders and Nate Ramirez. Both are punters from Michigan.

---

Nate Sudfeld is in as the Hoosiers' QB, IndyStar.com reports. According to new coach Peter Smith, Sudfeld has shown better mobility and arm strength than Coffman in practice.
