Gunner closed the gate and went over to tell the kids to throw it a different direction. They obliged, and Gunner went back to the middle of the playground, where he had been standing. …in the middle of the classroom. After five minutes, only one other student showed up, a tall, skinny fellow who was apparently Pelican’s friend. The teacher called roll - there were really only three students in the class, which Cassie found odd. Mr. Jackson didn’t even try to teach them anything, and Pelican and his friend, James, sat in the back fooling around the whole class. Cassandra, meanwhile, took the opportunity to get a bit of homework done. She finished all of her Physics work and they had no homework in Pre-Cal, so she got out her English book to read a little. Suddenly, both Pelican and James crowded in behind her. “May I help you?” she asked sarcastically. “Uh, we don’t exactly have books, so we were gonna read along with you, if that’s alright,” James said politely.

John jumped up into the truck and closed the door. “Cici’s?” Jordyn suggested. “Yeah!” was the response from an excited John. As they pulled out into traffic, Jordyn buckled her seatbelt. John still hadn’t by the time they reached the first stoplight. Jordyn reminded him that he needed to buckle up, and he threw the seatbelt behind his shoulder and clicked it into place. When they got to Cici’s, John took a plate, stacked ten slices of pizza on it, got Coke to drink, and sat down, already starting to scarf down the food. Jordyn took her time, and got two slices of pizza and water to drink. John, who was just reaching five feet tall, and only weighed about 80 pounds, finished all ten slices and went back for more, getting eight more. Jordyn only got three slices of pizza, one dessert, and a couple of drink refills, while John ended up eating twenty-four slices of pizza, five desserts, and six refills of Coke. This time, he buckled up immediately, still tucking the shoulder belt behind him, as did Jordyn, although she did it the normal way. They drove home, and John rushed up to his room and turned on his Xbox. Jordyn read the last page of the chapter she had been reading earlier, then went upstairs and hung out in her room. She watched from her bed as John came out of his room and went into the bathroom. She heard the toilet flush and water run, then John went back into his room, playing some dumb video game for the next three hours. Meanwhile, when her dad got home, they went out to the backyard to shoot some hoops. The next day at school, they had a quiz in English, but it was a personal quiz. Some of the questions were easy, like her name, her parents’ names, and what sports she played, but the toughest question was to describe, in one word, your personality.
