How come some teams have played 16 games and others 17? :?

Patriots/Bengals Preview
Sunday, Jan 16, 4:30 - After a wild card win against the Texans, the Patriots will head to Cincinnati for the AFC Divisional playoff round against the 11-5 Bengals who are coming off a first round bye. You look at the Bengals statistics and 11-5 and a first round bye looks like too much. They are 16th in the NFL in total yards an 11th in the NFL with 23.1 points per game which is nice and on the defense are 19th in the league in passing yards allowed, 13th in rushing but allow 19.3 PPG which is 7th in the NFL. Not a very efficient or turnover team either, 30th in the league in 3rd down conversions. The Bengals offense has Carson Palmer who has 3,462 yards and 27 touchdowns on the season but 18 interceptions. Cedric Benson is their main running back and had a standout year running for 1,342 yards while Chad Ochocinco is the main receiver with 90 catches but after that only 56 is the 2nd highest so Ochocinco is the huge threat. The Patriots defense shut down the Texans for the most part but the Patriots and their 133 passing yards could be a concern but in the end the loser goes to the AFC championship. Newspaper predicts: Patriots win 27-14

Patriots Win Miracle In Cincinnati, Head to AFC Championship

AFC Divisional Playoffs -- The Patriots are heading to the AFC Championship after winning a game against the Bengals which at some points looked unwinnable but the Patriots 2nd half defense and a late safety helped lead New England to the incredible Divisional Playoffs win. The Bengals offense moved very well in the 1st quarter with the opening Bengals possession going 62 yards and ending in a 9-yard TD catch by Foschi and then they would lead 14-0 on a big 59-yard TD by Cedric Benson who ran for 101 yards in the 1st half. On 4th and 1 at the 46 yard line of New England, the Patriots went for it and regretting it as in the end Dhani Jones returned a Brady interception to the house to lead 21-3 and Cincinnati would go into half time up 24-13 as the Patriots cut the deficit a little. The Patriots got the momentum early in the 3rd when they stuffed the Bengals 3 times on 1st and goal at the 3 and a sack set up a 22-yard field goal so New England made a huge stop and on their next possession they would be trick and at their own 40 yard line and 4th and inches, they did a redirect snap instead of a punt for the 1st down setting up a 1-yard fullback run by Sammy Morris for the touchdown with 4:07 left in the 3rd to make it 27-20 and a one touchdown game. The Patriots would finally tie it with 6:31 left in the game on a 38-yard touchdown pass to Randy Moss. But on the next possession by the Bengals, it was de ja vu as they lost Carson Palmer for the game after a big hit by Mayo and he was replaced by J.T O'Sullivan but on his 1st pass of the game he threw a 47 yard touchdown to Chad Ochocinco for the Bengals touchdown to give them the 34-27 lead with 5:28 left. But the Patriots on a lengthy 14 play drive went up the field with a lot of help from Welker who caught 11 passes for 171 yards, Maroney who ran for over 100 yards for the 2nd straight week and Julian Edelman who caught 4 passes on the drive. The Patriots finally faced 4th and goal at the 2 yard line with 0:54 left and Welker scored at first what looked like a touchdown pass but the play was reviewed and he was out of bounds so the Bengals took over up 34-27 and 54 seconds left but the Patriots still had 2 timeouts. But the Bengals were backed up and then the miracle happened. Benson got the hand off but it looked like a teammate interfered with his running space so in the end zone Benson was taken down by Banta-Cain for the safety to not only make it 34-29 Cincinnati, but the Patriots were going to get the ball back after the kickoff. Slater made a huge play returning it to the 40 yard line of the Bengals with 48 seconds left in the game down 34-29. The Patriots made 5 plays and Brady was 5/5 for 37 yards on the day to pass the 400 yard mark of the game and with 18 seconds left, Julian Edelman caught an 8-yard touchdown reception to give them a 35-34 lead but failed to convert for 2. The Bengals got one more chance but J.T O'Sullivan fumbled and Gary Guyton recovered for the amazing 35-34 win. We're going to Tennessee!

Did you change the settings to make it easier or something? :P
Just kidding, very very very nice win.
The only time I've had a win that epic was in Madden 2004.
I shouldn't tell the story, though, so I don't detract from this fantastic logPM me I guess

Nah I didn't, I actually put it up to all madden because I was getting annoyed with all the incomplete passes the opponent QB was making, and when they did pass on all pro it was like a 40+ yard touchdown because no one can catch him for some reason. For some reason they made all pro tougher after getting roster updates so all madden is very tough

but I still ponder how I score so many points sometimes, I mean look at the Texans Wild card game stats... not that great. I'm still looking for a low scoring game, say 17-14 or like 24-17. But I did beat the Saints 13-9

and sjax you can post it here :)

Heh, okay.
I was playing against the Giants with my Rams, and they had just scored a touchdown.
I muff the kick return, and we start on our own 8 yard line, down by 4, with 7 seconds left.
I call a Hail Mary, and get Warner to drop back.
I lob the ball out to Isaac Bruce on the right side, and he makes the catch, then shakes off a defender behind him.
He jukes out another guy, and scampers in for the game-winning TD.

Anyways, can't wait for the Super Bowl!

not the super bowl yet, the AFC championship first against a Titans team that apparently only knows how to run. Everyone knows Chris Johnson but how this guy I'll highlight soon has 1,000+ yards is far beyond me

Patriots/Titans Preview
Sunday, Jan 23, 1:00 - The Patriots have made it to the long awaited return to the AFC Championship as they try to make it to their 2nd Super Bowl in 3 years but they face a very tough challenge in this 15-2 Tennessee Titans team who was the best NFL team during the regular season. The Titans did all of it with a dynamic running game. He led the NFL with 2,071 yards an 17 touchdowns but what might have been more surprising is the running game of quarterback Vince Young. He ran 131 times for 1,026 yards and 9 touchdowns, all 3 leaders in quarterbacks and the Titans overall ran for 2000 more yards than the Patriots in the regular season for the most running yards in the NFL, it was actually the most rushing yards for a team in NFL history which was set by the Patriots in 1978 but now the Titans have the record. 29th in the NFL in rushing in the regular season were the Patriots, but Maroney has had 2 straight games of 100+ yards of rushing. But the Titans passing game was not used much, Young threw for only 2,409 yards with 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions but they were the best 3rd down team in the NFL and led the NFL with 30.7 PPG. The Titans actually went into New England and won 43-24 while Johnson was amazing with 5 rushing touchdowns and 243 yards in 340 attempts but with little time left instead of taking the lead they let Johnson run in for a long touchdown in a controversial call that the Patriots thought of was running up the score(we know something about that). Newspaper predicts: Titans win 34-21

The Patriots are getting after the Titans for running up the score by 19?
*goes to check the score from the real season, sees a 59-0 Pats win*
Heh, nice to know their priorities are straight. :P

I'm rooting for you, though, don't get me wrong.
Just had to point that out.
Oh yeah, and they beat the Buccaneers by 28 the next week in real life.

Well my point was that with like 5 seconds left and I expected a kneeldown to finish it off but instead they run it to him again for another touchdown. That's all I meant, 19 points isn't a lot

and the patriots running up a score is a different story for another day
