Patriots Lose 2ND straight as Jaguars Upset Pats

Week 16 -- The Patriots just lost their 2nd straight as the Jaguars needed or a win to stay alive for the playoff hunt and they ran on Maurice Jones-Drews to do it. In the 1st quarter, the Jaguars scored first on a run by Maurice Jones-Drew who ran with the ball 32 times and then with 1:52 left in the half, rookie Mike Thomas caught a 59-yard pass from David Garrard to go ahead 14-0 and 14-3 at half time. In the 3rd quarter, with 1:52 left Mike Thomas caught another bomb for his 2nd long touchdown f the game to make it 21-3 Jacksonville. The Patriots running game struggled again this game such as last week but with 9:44 left in the 4th they got a 3-yard run by Maroney for a touchdown and so they went for 2 but failed on the two point conversion to make it 21-9. The Patriots on 5 plays and 80 yards scored on another run by Maroney for a touchdown to make it 21-16 now with 2:17 left. So the Patriots with 2 timeouts and a 2-minute warning thought they could try to stop them but Jones-Drew and the Jaguars were relentless as they were able to run out the clock with 2 first downs to stun the Patriots in Foxburo. For the Patriots its two straight losses, they've scored only 22 points in the last 2 games, Maroney has bombed and Brady has thrown 0 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in the last 2 games. A lot to assess coming into the last game of the season against a playoff hopeful Houston team.

An amazing week of football will happen next week on the last week of the regular season. Still 4 divisions without a winner and a total of 3 wild card spots left, all of this set in one week of football. Will be exciting and confusing with so many teams close to eachother but here is how it looks right now. Note that the teams outside of the playoffs are in order of where they are on in the AFC standings

American Football Conference

In Playoffs if season ended today

Titans 13-2 (South, 1st round bye)
Bengals 10-5 (North, 1st round bye)
Patriots 10-5 (East, Clinched)
Broncos 8-7 (West)
Colts 9-6 (1st wild card, Clinched)
Bills 8-7 (2nd wild card, 5 straight wins)

Outside the bubble

Chargers 8-7
Texans 8-7
Chiefs 8-7
Ravens 8-7
Steelers 7-8
Jaguars 7-8
Jets 7-8

Eliminated

Raiders 4-11
Browns 2-13
Dolphins 2-13

National Football Conference

In Playoffs if season ended today

Vikings 13-2 (North, 1st Round Bye)
Cardinals 9-6 (West, 1st Round Bye)
Eagles 9-6 (East, Tied with DAL)
Cowboys 9-6 (East, Tied With PHI)
Panthers 8-7 (1st Wild Card)
Bears 8-7 (2nd Wild Card)

Outside the bubble

Seahawks: 9-7
Buccaneers 7-8
Packers 7-8
Rams 7-8
Giants 6-8
Falcons 7-8
49ers 7-8

Eliminated

Falcons 6-9
Lions 6-9
Saints 6-9
Redskins 4-11

Eagles Cowboys Matchup Rescheduled to Monday Night Football
The Week 17 Matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys has been rescheduled to Monday Night Football. This is the biggest matchup of the week since the winner wins the NFC East and could possibly get a first round bye. The loser may not make the playoffs depending on what the other teams do or they could fall to a wild card spot

Patriots Head To Houston For Last Game of Season
The 10-5 Patriots will head to Houston to play the 8-7 Houston Texans for the last game of the regular season. The Texans have allowed the least amount of yards this season on defense which is first in the league but they've only scored a total of 278 points. The Texans are looking for their first winning season even and could make the playoffs as a wild card team if everything goes right for them but they are eliminated with a loss. For the Patriots, they'll want to rest their starters so expect to see Brian Hoyer in at quarterback for some time, they are fighting for a 1st round bye but have fallen to 3rd in the AFC so they need a win and Bengals loss to clinch a first round bye.

Patriots End Season on 3-game skid, Fall To Texans

Week 17 -- In the end, the Patriots ended the season on a 3-game losing streak falling 38-27 to Houston. The Patriots led 7-3 in the 2nd quarter but got it to 14-3 when Matthew Slater, who actually leads the league with 28 yards per game on kickoff return, returned a kickoff 100 yards for his 1st kickoff return TD of the season. The Patriots led 14-13 half time to a team that needed a win if they wanted any chance of the making the playoffs and played like it in the 2nd half scoring 28 points in the second half to go on to win 39-28. The Patriots took out Welker, Moss, Guyton and Meriweather in the middle of the 3rd quarter. So Hoyer came in for Brady and did a respectable job despite 2 interceptions, Tate and Edelman became the two lead wide receivers(although they didn't get many receptions in the end) and rookie Brett Lockett went to play safety so the Patriots will head into the playoff as the 3rd seed and no 1st round bye. The Patriots end the season at 10-6 and the Texans end the season at 9-7 with their first ever winning season since coming to the NFL in 2002.

Well a 3-game losing streak to end what was once a 10-3 record.

But hey the real life Patriots went 10-6 so why not the Madden NFL 10 ones too

But dang it was just too confusing figuring out the playoff scenarios, I mean only three teams were eliminated coming into this week :?

Texans/Patriots Preview
Saturday, Jan 10, 4:30 - In a rematch of Week 17 in which the Texans won, the Houston Texans will head to Gillette Stadium to play their first playoff game in Houston Texans history. They will face a Patriots team that was once 10-3 but lost 3 straight to end the year. The defenses in these teams highly differ, the Patriots defense was awful allowing 22.5 PPG(26th in NFL), gave up 5,473 totals yards(29th in NFL) and gave up the most passing yards in the whole football league while the Texans may have been the best giving up just 4,144 yards(2nd in NFL), gave up the least amount of passing yards and allowed only 16.9 PPG(3rd in NFL). But then there's the offenses. The Texans were 9-7 and if their offense was good they could have done so much more, they were 25th in the NFL for points per game at 17.3 while QB Mark Schuab threw 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while Andre Johnson was their offenseive leader with 99 catches, their running game is led by Ryan Moats and they running game was 25th in the NFL. The Patriots offense was arguably the best in football leading the league in total yards, passing yards and total yardage and were 3rd in the NFL with 25 PPG. Not to mention they have Tom Brady who led the league in passing yards with 4,353 and 26 touchdowns. They also have Welker who led the NFL with 121 catches and Randy Moss who caught 94 catches and 10 touchdwons. But their running game was weak as Maroney led the team with 786 yards while rotating with Kevin Faulk, Sammy Morris and Fred Taylor most of the season, all of them combined for 1,150 running yards for 29th in the league. The Texans have to go into Foxburo where the Patriots were 6-2 while the Texans were 3-5 on the road. Predictions: New England is too much of a veteran team to go down this easily with guys like Brady, Moss and Welker, Prediction: Patriots win 38-34

It was something like 26 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 4,353 passing yards and a good passer rating. Good year

Patriots Are Heading To Cincinnati After Strong Defensive Effort To Win Wild Card Game

AFC Wild Card Game -- The Patriots ruined the Texans playoff debut with a the first playoff game in the NFL on Saturday Afternoon. It was an odd game though, special teams and defense won it for New England as Brady and Schuab were under pressure the whole game with these defenses dominating today. The Patriots scored first in the 1st quarter on a big 30-yard touchdown run by Laurence Maroney but only 2 minutes layer, Ryan Moats would get a big 43 yard run to the 5-yard line to set up a 5-yard touchdown pass to Jacoby Jones to tie it 7-7. With 1:36 left in the half, the Texans would take their first lead on a 1-run run by Ryan Moats who ran for 138 yards today to make it 14-7. But the Patriots came right back at them, Matt Slater returned a kickoff 100 yards for the touchdown to tie it, his 2nd kickoff return of the season and his first was last week in Houston. But the Patriots defense dominated in the 2nd half, they forced a fumble from Moats and recovered and with 6:45 left in the 3rd quarter they would turn it into a field goal. But a few possessions later, Gostkowski missed a 39-yard field goal to keep it 17-14 but the Patriots would block a punt, this one by Shawn Springs, to give them the ball at the 23 of Houston and later it would be a 1-yard run by Maroney for the touchdown to make it 24-14. Brady and Schuab both struggled to get passing yards but Brady completed 23 passes and Schuab could only complete 10 out of 23 as he was under pressure all game and was sacked 3 times. The Patriots finally finished it off with 2:25 left in the game when Adalius Thomas tackled Mark Schuab in the end zone for the safety to make it 26-14 and after a few first downs by Maroney who ran for 106 yards, the Patriots ran out the clock for the gritty win in probably their playoff game in New England this playoffs. The Patriots will head to Cincinatti to take on the 11-5 Bengals next week.
