Today's the first day of official practice, and goodness me, I'm nervous.
It's only my second time ever playing second base, so I may be a little rusty out there, hopefully coach will understand.

"Alright everyone, welcome to the team, blah blah blah, let's get to practicing. Lawrence, go get the bucket of balls and bag from my truck."
Finally, coach didn't make me do something!
"Murphy, go get the bats... Hold on, nevermind, they're in the bag. Go and get my coffee please." He said
I sighed, and agreed, I had no choice.
I got up to his car, and got his coffee out of the cup holder, and noticed a picture on his windshield. Curiosity got the best of me, and I took a look at it.
On the back of it it said, "California, '87"
It was a picture of coach and some woman with the Golden Gate Bridge behind them.
"Hunh, so coach's got a girlfriend, eh?"
I dropped the picture, and it floated over to the passenger seat, I went to go pick it up, and noticed another picture, though this one was just a blurry shot of a tombstone. On the back of this one, it read "Ohio, '89"
I could barely make what it said to be:

Vanessa Davis
July 22, 1961 - May 19, 1989
'A beloved wife, mother, and daughter, taken far too soon'

"Murphy! Let's go!" Coach screamed from the field
I put the picture back where I found it, grabbed the coffee, and ran down to the field.
"Jeez Murphy, what took so long?"
"Uh...

What do I say?
A. I saw those pictures, I'm so sorry (+?, -?)
B. I couldn't find the car! (-3)
C. What? (-2)
D. Nothing sir, I'm sorry, so, so sorry (-1)

"Uh... I saw those pictures, coach, I'm so sorry." I said
"Pictures...?"
"Yeah, those pictures of your wife."
"..."
An awkward silence followed, until it was ended by fire in coach's eyes.
"How dare you look through my things, Murphy! What's wrong with you?! Leave. Now!" (-8)
Everyone looked at me with disgust.

Crap.
I went home.

"Why are you home so early, honey?" My mother asked as I walked through the door.
"Well... Um... I went to go and get coach his coffee, but then I found these pictures, and then I realized he had a wife, and she died, like, 23 years ago. And then I told him I found them. And then he got mad, and sent me home." I said all in a blur
"Wait, hold on, what happened?"
"I found some pictures of coach's dead wife in his car, and then stupidly told him that 'I was sorry'."
"Oh, I see."
"Yeah."

I went up to my room, laid on my bed, and had some time to myself, finally.
I thought about what I had done.

I waited until about the time I thought practice would be over, and called up Jack.
The phone rang 5 times, and he picked up.
"Dude, what the hell?" He immediately asked
"I... I don't know, I thought it would be best to be honest." I replied
"Hah, yeah, guess not. Coach was pissed!"
"What did he say?"
"Nothing really. Seriously, like, he said nothing."
"At all?"
"He literally said nothing. No one really knew what to do, so Richardson took charge. Pretty strange for a freshman, but, eh, he's good enough to pass as a leader."
"Wow."

We talked for a little while after.

"I've really messed up this time." I thought to myself
I have practice tomorrow...

What should I do?
A. Go (+?, -?)
B. Not go (+?, -?)

Dude. Why couldn't you just understand that your cach had a lot of pain and did not want to talk about the loved one he lost? You need to ease your way into situations like these. Your coach was obviously going through times and fighting his inner demons. He needs help, but not in that way.

March 23

School was over, and I wasn't sure what to do.
I decided to go off to practice, just like it was a normal day.

I was the fifth to get to the field, only behind Richardson, Jack, Lawrence, and Strickland.
"Hey man, why did you say that yesterday?" Richardson asked
"I... I dunno, I just thought that it would be best to be honest, I guess. Didn't really work out, huh?" I responded
"Sure didn't." Lawrence added
"Well, it's all over now, let's go play some catch." Jack said

We went off to play catch, Strickland and Richardson paired up, and threw some pitches to eachother, with the knuckleball being ever so prevalent. Lawrence, Jack and I played together.
We chatted some as we were playing.
Everyone got to practice, and finally coach showed up.

I could feel the tension in the air.

He walked over, his 6'5" body tower over pretty much everyone else, save for Richardson.

"Alrighty boys, let's have a good practice today." He said as calmly as ever
We all went to our positions for an infield/outfield.

The outfield took their fly balls, then Lawrence, then Cruz, and I was next, at my new position of second.

Coach hit a sharp grounder to me, a tough one to field to my right.

What did I do?
A. Make a dive (+3, -4)
B. Let it go by (-3)
C. Run to it and hope for the best (+1, -3)
