NLDS:
Giants over Phillies
Cubs over Cardinals, thanks to a huge midseason trade

1. The Cubs can't face the Cards in the DS. They're in the same division
2. What "huge midseason trade" are you predicting?

 my bad, i'll edit it.
And I dunno, i wasn't trying to go into specifics.
I do think that maybe they'll get a ace starter or closer if they decide to be players at the deadline.

Actually, they can play each other in the NLDS. If the team with the best record in the NL is in that division and the team with the worst record in the playoffs are in the same division, they can play.

I thought it was:
The team with the best record plays the wild card team unless the WC is in the same division as them, in which case they play the next worse record?

That's what I thought too, but according to yj: If the Cardinals have the best record in the league and the Cubs have the 4th best, they can face eachother in the NLDS. But if the Cubs are better than one of the other division leaders, they can't face each other? :?:

yankeejr is incorrect. The wild card can never face their division winner in the Division Series. Also, the wild card doesn't necessarily have the worst record among their league's four playoff teams.

Last year, Boston was the wild card but they did not face the Yankees, who had the best record in the AL, in the first round. They faced Anaheim, who had the second-best record. Keep in mind that wild card Boston had a better record than Central winner Minnesota.

Same thing happened in the NL, where Colorado was the wild card. They did not face LA, who had the best record in the NL, in the first round. They faced Philadelphia, who had the second-best record. And again, wild card Colorado had a better record than Central winner St Louis.

ok so I did my research on teams more and I've decided to change a few things in my predictions and do MLB standings

AL East

Yankees : 101-61
Red Sox : 93-69
Rays : 91-71
Orioles : 75-87
Blue Jays : 65-97

AL Central

Twins : 88-74
Tigers: 84-78
White Sox : 82-80
Royals : 72-90
Indians : 66-96

AL West

Rangers : 94-68
Angels : 89-73
Mariners : 88-74
Athletics : 77-85

NL East

Phillies: 96-66
Braves : 93-69
Marlins : 87-75
Mets : 81-81
Nationals : 69-93

NL Central

Cardinals : 89-73
Cubs : 88-74
Pirates : 83-79
Brewers : 82-80
Reds : 76-86
Astros : 67-95

NL West

Rockies : 96-66
Giants : 89-73
Dodgers : 85-77
Diamondbacks : 84-78
Padres : 73-89

AL East: Yankees - They're too good
AL Central: Twins - New stadium and great lineup with Mauer, Hardy, Kubel, Cuddyer, Morneau, etc. It's a fun team to watch
AL West: Rangers - Another fun team to watch, good offense if Hamilton and Guerrero perform and nice looking pitching staff
AL Wild Card: Red Sox - Maybe best 1-2-3 pitching rotation in majors and their 4 and 5 starters are pretty good too

NL East: Phillies - Great NL offense, Halladay I think will win the cy young but rotation after is somewhat shaky
NL Central: Cardinals - Dominant 1-2 in Wainwright/Carpenter but rotation after is weaker without Piniero, offense overall is alot on Pujols and Holliday
NL West: Rockies - Very good diverse offense and rotation is balanced. I just believe it will be another great season for them
NL Wild Card: Braves - A few nice pickups in the offseason. And along with a healthy Chipper Jones, Troy Glaus and rookie Jason Heyward, I expect a wild card

LDS:
Red Sox beat Rangers in 5 Games - Red Sox 1-2-3 is too good compared to the Rangers, but the Rangers will fight for 5 games
Yankees beat Twins in 4 games - Twins pitching will not be able to stop this amazing Yankees offense
Cardinals beat Phillies in 4 games - Yes. The Cardinals will upset them because of Wainwright and Carpenter while Pujols helps lead them. Halladay and Hamels is not enough
Rockies beat Braves in 4 games - Not much to say here. The Rockies are a good team

LCS:
Yankees beat Red Sox in 5 games - The Red Sox offense will be shut down so the Yankees will win this series handily
Rockies beat Cardinals in 7 games - The Rockies won't pitch to Pujols and Holliday and after that, the Cards offense will struggle. Wainwright and Carpenter will lead the Cardinals to their 3 wins this series

WS:
Rockies beat Yankees in 6 games - The Rockies will just have a magical season in the end. And they will win their first ever season

AL MVP: Josh Hamilton - Comeback player of the year too, he'll lead the Rangers to the playoffs
NL MVP: Albert Pujols - Enough said

AL Cy Young: Jon Lester - Bold prediction. But I think he will break out as if his 200+ strikeouts wasn't breakout enough
NL Cy Young: Roy Halladay - In the NL could win 23 games

AL ROTY: Desmond Jennings(TB) - Not very known but will probably get a chance and steal a good amount of bases, bold predictions
NL ROTY: Jason Heyward (ATL) - He's been compared to Griffey and Hank Aaron. Next great power hitter according to scouts and overall great talent

And thoughts?

Oh yeah and opening day tommorow. GO RED SOX!

I actually think the Cubs with a healthy Soriano, Ramirez and Zambrano they could win the Central

And no. At some point the Pirates need to break the under .500 curse

They were actually pretty good for a month last season

It's one of those predictions where it looks good if it's right

jacobye, did you cross check your records? I noticed only 8 teams (4 in each league) have under .500 records. I am not sure if that is possible.

30x162=4860
4860/2=2430

30 teams x 162 games / 2 teams each game = 2430 games

Of those 2430 games, 1215 have to be wins and 1215 have to be losses because each game has a winner and a loser.

I didn't add up all of your losses because I am too lazy but if that doesn't equal 1215 wins and 1215 losses then that season is impossible. There is an exception of course if there is a one game playoff but that would only alter the games by one or two. It just struck me as queer that there were only 8 losing teams.

Yes I was aware of that but I didn't know the formula, I had a problem with that last year but I think I could put more teams under .500

Just looking at some teams I looked at things about them and thought they could compete but now I think I'll just be more realistic

except I won't change that Pirates

After punching in all of j46's win totals into my calcluator, this season is impossible. BBB is correct in saying that there must be 1215 wins and 1215 losses. j46's win total is 2503, a whopping 1288 wins over what it should be. And after calcuating the total number of losses, the number is 2357. Once again, a very high 1142 games over what it should be.

Are you sure my formula is correct? I had never heard it before, but I used my common sense and figured it out. I could be missing something but it seems right to me. I am pretty sure it is right but I make mistakes too.
