Of course thats only one of many close calls on homers in my life, especially one the pissed me off alot. The fence at one of the fields was moved 5 ft back, but like a few ft shorter, and I had a high pop in dead center that woulda went over if it wasnt moved back. Still a double though, I learned my lesson by then.

Not sure...
probably somewhere just under that, maybe 160.
I'm hitting them with a plastic bat (i found a set at target for $4, with bases and strike zone)

nice. So far the only homerun i hit in my life are those i got when me and my friend play wiffleball in his backyard. We dont use an actual wiffleball, a kinds bouncy ball, and some kinda bat. He lives right across the street from me and I actually hit the window of my house once too.

Last year was my last year in the little league (I was 12) and we needed to win the last game of the season to make the playoffs. We were down 4-0 in the bottom of the 6th. (Little league plays to the 6th inning and we were the home team). Their pitcher gave up a double to the first batter then walked the next three batters. It was bases loaded and we were down 4-1 with no outs. They changed pitchers and the new pitcher struck out the next two batters. Our power hitter came up and hit ball into the outfield that went through the center fielders legs and the batter went to second. All the runners scored and the game was tied at 4. I came up to bat and I hit a double to the fence in right center and our runner on 2nd scored and we won the game 5-4 and everyone was so happy. We lost our first game in the playoffs 6-4. :(

therisingsun, I'm curious, did your coach make you run a lot for doing that or anything? Maybe it's just me, but I would probably of been like well since you like to run you can go run for the whole practice(or something along those lines). Not anything personal, but that's just how I would've handled it. But did your coach only talk to you about it, or did he punish you?

Funny you should mention that... I did mention it was the last game of the season so he really couldn't make me run laps anymore. I would have ran however many laps he asked of me and did it with a smile on my face though. This particular coach would make us run laps for any errors we made or for being struck out especially looking. I ran plenty of laps for him especially since he was the conditioning coach for basketball as well. He was one of my all-time favorite coaches.

Instead of punishing me my coach during an inauguration ceremony, for student body president/awards ceremony for lettermen, retold the story saying it was the most exciting moment he could remember during a baseball game. He also thanked me for being a good team member.

Remember most of the memorable stories, to the people telling them, are stories about things out of the norm. I wasn't good enough skill wise to start on many teams let alone disobey a coach. I got to play because I busted my butt for my teams and the coach. I lack coordination and have had to always rely on heart. I was the starting halfback on my varsity football team when I was the smallest and second slowest person on the team but I was All-League first team my senior year. Getting back to the subject my best baseball story wouldn't be how I would spend hours catching for teammates and stole a lot of bases because that was just the norm. It was when I did something albeit a bit selfish but out of character that it really stuck to me. I won a a few games stealing home on botched squeeze attempts but I was just doing what I was supposed to be doing so it was no big deal.

Win win situation I guess isnce you got what you wanted and you didn't have to run extra laps(even though you would've gladly). It sounds like we're similar in some ways, I was probably just average speed for kids in my league and stole a lot of bases because I was a smart base runner. I also always played my heart of the whole time, I didn't care if it was a grounder to second or short, I was hustling my butt off to get there and that earned me plenty more base hits. It also earned me a high spot in the order the summer before sophmore year(I didn't play for my high school team, just a team my friends started so we could all be on the same team). Well, that year is basically my best baseball story/memory. I probably hit .400+ that year and switched between being the no. 2 and no. 5 hitter the whole year, and I walked a ton of times because I had a great eye. I had a ton of game winning hits and game winning runs, I also did the little things like bunt to get people over but I was so good at bunting I could easily place the ball right and get a bunt single(not drag bunting) and that's one thing my coaches loved about me. We had an absolutely amazing year going 14-1, mainly because all of us on the team were so close and we just had a ton of energy. In the city tourny we lost the first game then won two straight games. Then a game got rained out so it was scheduled for a day that the next round started on so if we won that game we'd have to play another right after that. It was an amazing game, scoring went back and forth, we were home so we were down one going into the last inning. One kid gets a hit and then I'm up, I hit one into the outfield and the kid went from first to third. I stole second on the next pitch. Then with the next batter their infield scooted in and I made sure to get a huge lead, it was probably halfway to third base, and the batter hit it right up the middle and I scored the winning run. It was probably one of the most exciting times of my career. Suprisingly we had the same exact thing happen to us the next game, but we were the away team so we came up in the top of the last inning it was a one run game and we ended up tying it and had the go ahead run on third but failed to get him in. Then in the bottom of the inning it was nerve wrecking and dissapointingly we ended up losing the game and that knocked us out of the tournament. That was the best time I ever had playing baseball my whole life, I will never forget that season. Then a lot of us went of seperate ways after that year, a lot of the team didn't play the next year(which was this previous season) and I played but it wasn't the same without all of the kids I used to be best firend with, and I think that was a big reason I struggled miserably because I only knew a few kids on the team and wasn't really good friends with any of them.

I got a double and a triple in Second Grade, and was named Defensive Player of the Year in my league. Played mostly OF.

Love the stories including the wiffle ball and video baseball game ones!

What I love about baseball is that it is the only sport, where despite your skill level to a point, you can make one play that changes everything. Granted you have to be on the team but in every other sport you basically have to have a higher level of skill to be in the game. You can make a last second shot in a basketball game but you need to be one of the best players to be in the game at that point (unless you are Robert Horry). Same thing for football, soccer, etc.

Then of course it only takes one play to make you the goat... Bill Buckner. I feel for guys like him, Mitch Williams, Scott Norwood... and the entire Buffalo Bills team (whom I loved), Chris Webber, Dennis Eckersley...

in flag football in school once, my best moment in PE, i opted out this year.
i was in 6th grade, by the way.

Here we go:
I was about 30 yards out from the end zone, and i get a screen pass. i run to the left sideline and juke out a guy. i make it to about the 7 yard line with no trouble, but then two guys close in on me from both sides.
I jump from 2 yards out, do a 360 through both of those guys, and land untouched with my flag perfectly intact in the end zone.
I have also been known to contribute on defense with a few interceptions and i can actually break tackles (real tackles) very well for my size.
not to brag, but i think i might try out for high school...

Dubious story of mine...

I think it was either my 3rd or 4th grade year...
In one inning my team almost batted around 2X, and had it not been for me they surely would have. The first time through the batting order I struck out. The second time through I struck out again. It was nearing my third time at bat but mercifully the bater two spots ahead of me made the final out of the inning. At the time I didn't really realize what I had almost done until an excited teammate yelled it out to the coach. "Wow he almost made all three outs in the inning!"

I think I almost set some kind of record for organized baseball that day.
