It seems as though someone has a thing for Jennifer Lawrence. Just a hunch

I always thought of Deschanel as a slightly less hot version of Katy Perry

Deschanel's alright. I really haven't seen her in anything where I really liked her, but she's alright.

Zooey Deschanel was in 500 Days of Summer, and she was in an Offspring music video (She's Got Issues). Thus, she is cool.

NOT TO BEAT A DEAD HORSE, BUT TO RETURN TO THE PHILLY DEBATE AND OFFER MY DOS PESOS...

What I basically got from Philliesfan is that all the Eagles need to do to contend for a Super Bowl is to become a completely different team i.e. fire the staff and get an entirely new cast of players other than one or two guys. No offense, but you're pretty much falling in line with the stereotypically b****y Philly fan there. Obviously there needs to be changes made, but that goes for EVERY TEAM IN THE LEAGUE, and just because they're meh right now doesn't mean things can't sway one way or another, either through a transaction or two or just by way of momentum. I mean, hell, the Giants were mediocre for most of the regular season last year, then they pulled an epic Tebow, got hot at the right time and won the Super Bowl. Chill the heck out, stop being a typical Philly armchair QB, and just weather the ups and downs, without complaining about everyone in the entire organization other than two players, like most other sane NFL fans do.

Also, only 3 times this century have they not reached the playoffs, they've reached the NFC Championship 5 times, and lost a Super Bowl by merely 3 points. Their record in the regular season since the 2000 season's performance (including it), is 121-70-1. That is so incredibly far ahead of the vast majority of teams in the league... so while yes, you have a right to higher expectations, I believe it doesn't give you the right to say that Andy Reid is a fatass, terrible coach who doesn't know what he's doing any of the time. He's been on the hot seat for years and years and he's still coaching, so obviously there's a reason for that. Maybe, just maybe, it's because the team is one of the most successful this side of Y2K.

Take it from a fan of a team who hasn't had a winning season since 2003 and has finished in the cellar of a, until this year, crappy division 4 of the past 5 seasons (and very likely 5/6).

Also, Skittle was actually quite on the money with his points there. Just sayin'.

Jeff Fisher. For. The. WIN.

In other news, had Archery Club today at school. Actually shot for the first time... was quite fun for sure, and I did pretty well for my first time. Closest thing I'll get to using guns. :P

I'll agree on most points there, sjax. But I do want to point out a few things. My thoughts will be jumbled, however.

You mentioned we've been among the most successful teams in the 2000/2010s. Yet, there remains no trophy in our case. Why is that?

If we have talented players and a good coach like Andy Reid, why have we not put it together in the last 15 years he's been here? None of his stupid stats mean anything if we don't have a ring. I won't say he's a terrible coach but he's not as good as some have made him out to be.

I may have overreacted (and may be right now), but that's natural instinct of Philly fans because we want them to win one for once.

The difference between us and the Giants is they have a good coach who was put under pressure when he won those Super Bowls, plus they know how to draft talent. This year is the first time Andy's ever had a serious chance of losing his job.

I don't think it matters how many times they make the playoffs if they don't go far. They've only been to a Super Bowl once in the Reid/Lurie era and over the last five years they've progressively done worse towards getting to the SB.

And as for how long he's been here, I think that's just because Jeffrey Lurie is more concerned about money and is content with this team going 8-8 and not making the playoffs like they did last year. Only now, 15 years in, at 3-3, during the bye, has he said that something has to change if Andy Reid is to remain the coach. Why didn't he think, after 5, 10, 13 years after not winning one with him as coach that maybe, just maybe, this isn't the guy to lead a SB winning team.

I wouldn't blame just him though, obviously it goes to the players also and not every year he's been given the talent to go far in the playoffs, but you can't just sit there and say it isn't partially the head coach's, or the owner's, or the coaching staff's fault that with some of the talented teams we've had we still haven't gotten that pivotal SB win yet.

I will say though, while they might not have to blow up the team since they're only 3-3, I'm still not sure that they can beat the best teams in the NFC if they were to make it in the playoffs. I just don't see with how inconsistent they've been that they could make a solid run deep into the playoffs, with the state of the team as it is (not their record necessarily, but the players and the coaching). They just don't seem like a team that can pull a string of playoff wins and have good all-around games where everyone plays to their potential. I'm hoping they get hot by the playoffs and they prove me wrong, to this point they've left me unsure that that'll happen. We'll see, like they say, you never know what can happen in sports.

You may or may not agree, and that might not make too much sense, and you can rant and tell me how I'm wrong, but that's my honest thoughts from a faithful fan who wants to see my team win.

Rant complete.

Technically you've got a lot of trophies, and from this century you do have a George Halas trophy (NFC Champs) and a ton of division championships.

Seriously though, just because you guys haven't WON a Super Bowl doesn't equal failure for the past decade. You guys have put together a very solid record, and to an extent have maintained that, and the fact that you can root for your team and on any given Sunday have reasonable hope for another tally in the W column is something a bit coveted by fans of, say, St. Louis or Jacksonville or Cleveland.

Two points:
1. Does the name Dan Marino ring a bell? Comparing a player to a coach, I know, but I can bring up some coaches as well: Bud Grant, Jeff Fisher (who, ironically, was stripped of his one big chance by the team he now coaches), George Allen, Dan Reeves, and Marv Levy (as in, '90's Bills HC). Paul Brown never won a Super Bowl, and neither has Marty Schottenheimer. I'm not saying Andy Reid is necessarily on their level, but he does share a key trait with them: he's coached consistently good/great/fantastic teams that have just never won the big dance.

2. That's funny, because I was just thinking "He's not as bad as some have made him out to be." Clock management skills are obviously a bit lacking, but if that's the one big gripe against him other than the fact that he isn't Jesus incarnate for Philadelphia sports, then I don't see why he should be so maligned. At least he doesn't talk out of his @$$ like the Ryan brothers or is as cold as Belichick or division rival Coughlin.
philliesfan134 wrote:

Are you kidding? Andy Reid has practically been synonymous with hot seat for years now, thanks to massive media hype and malignment of the Eagles and the division as a whole, not to mention the rabid fanbase the team he coaches possesses. However, I do concede the drafting point, because they really have been pretty bad there. No argument there.

philliesfan134 wrote:

Not debating this point, just thinking aloud, because this reminds me a lot of Dan Snyder and his atrocious ownership of the Redskins. Or, y'know, it could go for quite a few other owners in the league as well. Lord knows what the guys in Cleveland are doing mentality-wise. *shot*

By the way, Andy Reid's salary is easily in the top ten in the league, at $5.5 mil. If he's so incredibly undeserving of the spot, why not go for someone younger and millions less expensive?

I'm not saying he's absolved of blame. No duh part of the fault lies on the (very broad) shoulders of Andy Reid. However, it's unfair to suddenly have everyone turn on him, especially when it's become so commonplace amongst a lot of fans of the Iggles. It's a group failure, and it needs to be looked at by that perspective. If it does all boil down to Andy's performance as head coach, then that's fine, but not many things get on my nerves in football terms more than other people (not necessarily you) seemingly throwing darts at a dartboard to figure out who's to blame for their shortcomings (Personally, if I were them I'd start with a demeanor change in the front office and a new QB who doesn't make it a ritual to turn the ball over at least once per game).

And you know, this season is so insane that I wouldn't put it past them to do just that, to get hot like that. Every team in the NFL is definitely vulnerable, and it's entirely possible that the Eagles could pull off an upset of, say, Atlanta or San Francisco. Have faith.

For the record, if I was somehow insinuating that I was putting you down or telling you you're way wrong and all, I didn't mean to come off like that, being condescending. I got a bit carried away at first myself, and was/am just meaning to counter your zealous clamoring for drastic change.

No, they are most definitely not.

You make a great argument, I suppose I was wrong and I overreacted. You can probably thank my dad for that, he's more diehard a fan than I am, he's been calling for Andy's head (plus Marty Mornhinweg's plus Juan Castillo's plus Howie Roseman's, and to a degree I've agreed with him.) :)

I respect you for that, sjax. You're quite a knowledgeable young man. :)

I guess I'll just ride this out and see what happens.

A few more things though, we both agree there should be some turnover in the front office as well as at the QB positions, so there's something. Plus, I forgot to mention, and you don't have to comment on this, but I'm tired of Andy's press conferences after a loss: "Uh.... I need to do a better job of putting my players in a better position to make plays.” and so on.
