Yes the names are big, but they have skill backing it up. I don't think they should have gone after Beckett though.

They are getting into the same issue as the Sox. They may be good this year and next, but they're mortgaging their future just for this. As much as I'll miss Gonzo, using the farm system to build your team is always the best solution

Although especially the Red Sox.

They basically have now traded Rizzo, Kelly, Beckett, Punto, and Crawford for De La Rosa, Webster, Loney, De Jesus, and Sands.

On paper that may well be the most ridiculous trade ever.

(Especially if it had been made 2+ years ago)

For the next few years, Gonzalez/Crawford could play well enough that their contracts are worth taking. But we'll just have to wait and see.

It's going to be hilarious if/when the Angels and Dodgers miss the playoffs.

And if the Rays and A's both make it, it's even more funny.

And the Red Sox need a change. That clubhouse was the biggest messin baseball.

I think that hinges on how well Rizzo and Kelly do in the majors. Rizzo is having a good season and Kelly will make his debut tonight, but if they hold it up and become really good, then it's a bad trade. But there's a chance De La Rosa and Webster turn out to be pretty good for the Red Sox. Mostly this was a salary dump, as well as a change in the clubhouse and a change of scenery for Gonzalez/Crawford/Beckett.

What do you think the odds are that Valentine gets fired this offseason?
