Twenty-five names.

That's all he had to tell himself they were right now, is twenty-five names. Twenty-five first and last names, with little abbreviations by them denoting their position.

This was what Heath was working off of.

Okay, well, he had some scouting reports too, as well as a general idea of their rank in the grand scheme of things, but right now, they were just names without faces.

These 25 players would be his first targets in recruitment, with many being gems that only another small school or two had picked up on and a few being some more unearthed prospects at whom Lefevre was at least going to prod. Most of those names were likely to fade away within a few weeks, but he had his suspicions about a couple 3-4 stars that could possibly be enticed into attending the upstate New York school at which he now worked.

While he didn't want to get attached to anyone just yet, there were a couple names that had already started to stick out to him...

For one, there were the two 6' 7" WRs he'd found, Jason Jackson out of Texas (****) and Adam Hammond out of California (***). Neither of them were heavily recruited, so Heath figured he'd take a shot... he hoped he could at least land one of them, for the mere presence of such a vertically gifted man in the receiving corps could be a boon if handled correctly.

There was Jeremy Grigsby, the gem he'd found in nearby Pennsylvania, a 3-star MLB that looked like he had the potential to transcend that with a little work, and right now being looked at only by one other school, albeit a pretty decently big one in South Carolina.

Finally, there was the man he hoped scouting would reveal to be a possible 4-year Quarterback for the team (if he nailed this 4-star): Pat Horne. The man had decent enough speed and agility (enough to be able to make some plays happen), but he seemed to be a man focused much more on accuracy than power, which was exactly what Lefevre wanted. He knew the running would be tough for this man, but he had stuck his foot in the door early on and intended to keep his presence known until signing day, if all went as planned.

There was a long, LONG way to go before he could really know where he ultimately stood, though, so for now he simply stashed the list away and made his way down to the stadium. They were holding a practice there today, their last day before they flew out to Washington for the season opener, and he had to check up on his current men, of course.

Unsurprisingly, the Bulls kicked off their season with a drive into the deep rough rather than right down the middle of the fairway.

Buffalo held strong in the first half, and nearly took an early lead before Gary Hargrove forced the ball into double coverage near the 10 yard line and got it picked off. By the end of the first half, though, it was merely 7-0 Washington, on a lengthy drive that ended with a 1-yard pass to the back of the end zone, where the tight end was wide open.

The third quarter, though is where things got out of hand. Washington scored on their opening drive on a 16 yard pass, then booted a field goal just a minute later to go up by 3 possessions, and scored just barely into the 4th quarter to go up 24-0 while Buffalo's offense went back into 1st gear. The game was sealed by that point, but Washington tacked on one more touchdown on a pretty much gift 17-yard run up the gut by Nick Douglas. Buffalo's only serious attempt at points was a 1st half-closing 48-yarder that fell 6 feet short.

Washington moved up to #25 in the nation after the win, while Buffalo is left to gather their belongings and head back to New York, where Syracuse awaits them.

1st: 0-0
2nd: 0-7
3rd: 0-10
4th: 0-14

FINAL: UB --- 0 - 31 --- UW

Oh, by the way, I changed the difficulty to Heisman in the late first quarter. Might keep it, might not, we'll see.

Keep it on Heisman until after the 'Cuse game, and then lower it again.

Haha, yeah, let's pull an Appalachian State or UL-Monroe on LSU!

Funny story: I had played through the Syracuse game (at least to the half) about 7 times, and all of those times I ended up just blowing it, when I wanted to see if I could win it. After a playthrough today where I blew what could have been a 10-0, 14-0 lead at the half, I just said F It and simmed...

Buffalo won 45-24.

Both the Quarterback, Gary Hargrove, and Danny Downing, the superstar tailback, rushed for 100 yards in the blowout, and there was even a kick return for a TD by Downing.

So yay!

So you played the game 8 times to try and get the win?

The majority of those games, yeah. I really wanted to beat the rivals, plus I hated how I kept blowing the games with terrible decisions.

Buffalo looked like they'd lead into the half against #2 LSU. They had just scored to go up 14-13, and UB Stadium was roaring.

And then the kickoff, with 2 seconds left, was returned for a touchdown.

It became 27-14 after the 3rd quarter.

Buffalo lost 51-14.

Yeah. =/

Buffalo marched into the home stadium of Ohio University confident, ready to bounce back after a maddening loss to a highly-regarded, possibly championship-bound LSU, and it sure as heck was a game.

The first quarter started with 4 consecutive punts, two from each side, before Ohio drove down near Buffalo's goal, settling for a 20-yard field goal with a minute left in the 1st. Buffalo couldn't come back with anything on their next drive, and to capitalize, Ohio promptly tossed a 41-yard touchdown pass thanks to wretched coverage by the Bulls' free safety, making it 10-0 (and later 13-0) with time in the first half ticking down. However, Buffalo had stirred by this point, putting together an amazingly efficient drive (albeit one with about a dozen plays), culminating with a 5-yard run by backup Brian Bonds with 8 seconds left in the half, putting the score at 13-7.

Buffalo opened up the half by receiving the kick and driving all the way down for a touchdown, the final strike coming on a perfect, though easy read by Gary Hargrove; Paul Grant, the slot receiver, had been completely abandoned on a route somewhere between a fly and post, and the 25-yard pass plus a PAT put Buffalo up 1 with 2:43 in the 3rd, which remained throughout the 3rd. A 41-yard field goal with 4 minutes left knocked it up to 17-13, and Buffalo looked to be firing on all cylinders. Unfortunately, the Bobcats roared back with a too-easy touchdown drive, taking not even 90 seconds off the clock, and the score (and tide) turned to 20-17. Buffalo couldn't do anything with their drive, turning the ball over on downs and giving Ohio a field goal of 46 yards with 96 seconds left. Buffalo seemed to have a decent drive going with limited time left, though, reaching midfield, but when Hargrove underthrew a receiver on an out route, the pick-six that resulted put the game out of reach. Ohio moved up to 5-1 on the season as a result, and Buffalo fell to 2-3.

1st: 0-3
2nd: 7-10
3rd: 7-0
4th: 3-18

FINAL: UB --- 17 - 31 --- OU
