The Phillies' AAA Lehigh Valley IronPigs are right in my area. The AA Reading Phillies are also close by. I don't really follow either very much, although I try to watch their games on TV when I can.

The only baseball team around here is in some senior league that only goes 7 innings a game, in their park there's about 1 home run a year.

I've seen the Portland Sea Dogs before, the game may have been just as fun as the Red Sox games I've been to.

At the minor league double header I went to, they switched each game to 7 innings.

We have a short-season A club. The overall talent is weak but we see a few grade B prospects and the rare grade A prospect. Once or twice per season, I show up at the park before the gates open and tell one of the ticket clerks that I am an area scout sent to bird dog a few players in tonight's game and ask if they have two available seats behind home plate or along the backstop in row 1. I have received comped tickets 100% of the time, even after I apologize for the short notice and offer to pay. And I really DO want to pay - my goal is to get good seats, not free tickets. As a bonus, when I go to will call to pick them up, they even provide a program and roster sheet.

Not sure if that tactic would work at the higher levels, and of course you have to be an adult to pull it off, but there you go. Just make sure to follow through and bring a notebook/pen with you and familiarize yourself with the rosters. You have to at least look the part when you show up, and you never know when you might have to talk the part.

Heh, nice. My dad is into photography, so he likes to bring his long lens to Astros games. He wears a ticket lanyard, puts his ticket in it, then flips it backwards so it appears he has some kind of a press pass. Most of the time, he can sneak into the photographer pits next to the dugout, no questions asked.

On topic: closest minor league teams are probably the Round Rock Express and the Corpus Christi Hooks, Astros AAA and AA respectively. I went to an Express game once, never been to Corpus Christi, though I've driven by the stadium on several occasions. When I was little My Dad would take me to see San Antonio Missions (AA Mariners), whenever we were in the area. I remember getting there early one game and asking any and every player for an autograph until finally Jason Alfaro came over and signed my ticket stub and gave me his old batting gloves. He went 0-4 that game with his shiny new ones. I'm pretty sure he got 20 or so at-bats one season with the Brewers. Not much else at high-level ball afterwards.

Sorry for these butchered sentences. iPhone keyboard And spellcheck mastery still eludes me.

I have a few minor league teams close by.
AA Reading Phillies
AA Wilmington Blue Rocks (Royals minor league team).
Lancaster Barnstormers independent and the Camden Riversharks are also independent. And they are all really fun to watch.

New Orleans Zephyrs are the AAA for the Marlins, but I see the Shreveport Sports play before (Independent I think)

Blue rocks are high single-A. They play in the league of my hometown team, the Winston-Salem Dash
